Raptors vs Wizards: Toronto Looks To Go 2-0 For the First Time
Raptors vs Wizards Game 2 Odds
Winning game 1 was huge for Toronto but they were one-point away from beating their -8.0 spread settling for a push instead. Heading to game 2, the spread has decreased to -6.5. The Wizards are prepping to mount a comeback and knew they let game 1 slip.
Wizards captain John Wall had 23 points and 15 assists but most of that came during the first half and he only made six of his 20 field goal attempts. He'll need a better performance alongside Bradley Beal, whose -10 rating was the second-worst. Likewise, Raptors superstar DeMar DeRozan only had 17 points on 35.3 per cent shooting. He'll need to step up to help push Washington back.
Raptors vs Wizards Betting Trends
Toronto is 7-3 in its last ten versus Washington but as far as betting trends look, the difference is slim and it can be tricky finding a clear advantage for either team.
- Toronto is 3-6 ATS when playing Washington at home.
- Washington outscores Toronto 57.7 to 52.3 at halftime in their last three.
- As a favourite, Toronto is 5-5 ATS when the spread is -7.0 or lower in their last ten.
- As an underdog, Washington is 5-5 ATS when the spread is +7.0 or lower in their last ten.
- The last game went over but seven of their last ten games have gone under.
The return of Wall gave Washington a nice boost but even his playmaking wasn't enough to carry them all the way through. Washington played their best during the second quarter where they outscored Toronto 36-27 on the strength of 56 per cent shooting and +12 ratings from Otto Porter Jr. and John Wall. Their best lineup included them two plus Beal, Mike Scott, and Marcin Gortat.
By the second half, it was a different story. While Washington was still shooting more, Toronto was more efficient hitting 56.8 per cent to Washington's 45 per cent. Toronto hit more threes (nine versus Washington's five) and it was a lot due to Lowry putting in nine points and five assists with a +12 rating.
This has been a trend for the Raptors who seem to turn it on during the second half of games although statistically, their best scoring period is the second (28.6 points). Toronto also shot 53.3 per cent from deep (16 of 30) in game 1 and expect this to go down this game. However, Toronto will maintain the same defensive mettle especially from OG Anunoby (game-high +11 in game 1).
The Raptors shot an unsustainable per cent from three and yet only managed an eight-point win. But they also lost the assist and turnover battle as Wall outplayed Lowry for the most part. With both teams making adjustments, expect this to be another close game that will be decided in the fourth period.
Raptors vs Wizards Game 2 Prediction
Winning your home opener for the first time is nice. But what's even nicer is going up 2-0 in a series for the first time. The Raptors have never held a 2-0 lead in any playoffs series but this could change tonight if they contain Wall and win the turnover battle.
DeRozan doesn't need to take over the game although his ability to take defenders off the dribble and win the late game iso battles will be tantamount to Toronto's success. Backup point guard Delon Wright played well (18 points on 70 per cent shooting) in Fred VanVleet's absence and he'll need to maintain that high level albeit with fewer mistakes (four turnovers).
At -6.5, the spread is smaller and should be easier to cover for Toronto whose confidence will only build over their game 1 victory even if they won't be quite as hot from downtown.Toronto Raptors -6.5 (-115)
