NFL Monday Night Predictions
Minnesota Vikings at Chicago Bears NFL Picks
The Vikings started the season with a dominant 29-19 win against the New Orleans Saints before Sam Bradford missed the next three games due to injury. Case Keenum stepped up against Tampa Bay to ensure Minnesota didn’t fall too far behind the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions.
Bradford will be a game time decision on Monday, with the Vikings holding his status lose to the chest. Chicago has already outperformed early season expectations by beating the Steelers and hanging in against the Atlanta Falcons. The Bears play better football at home, which will help prevent a complete blowout.
After waiting three weeks on the sidelines, Sam Bradford should be ready to go on Monday night against the Bears. His presence in the backfield boosts Minnesota’s offense enough to give the Vikings a notable edge against Chicago. The Vikings defense can deal with a rookie quarterback and whatever rushing game the Bears throw at them.
Bet on Minnesota beating a four-point spread while scoring 25-30 points with their rejuvenated offense. Chicago’s tough at home, but they simply lack the talent necessary to win on most evenings, unless the opposing team takes them for granted.
Minnesota Vikings at Chicago Bears Preview
When Sam Bradford went down with a knee ailment, the Vikings were worried about losing three in a row to fall out of contention. Case Keenum played his heart out in week three against the Buccaneers, throwing three TDs and no interceptions, finishing with 369 yards on 25-33 passing - good enough for a 142.1 rating. Keenum was merely mortal against the Steelers and the Lions, tossing zero touchdowns during those two losses.
Minnesota will welcome Sam’s consistency when he returns to the field.
With Bradford in the lineup, the Vikings have a huge advantage over Chicago. The Bears recently elevated rookie QB Mitchell Trubisky over Mike Glennon, and Monday will be the first start of Mitchell’s career. Minnesota would have a QB advantage with Keenum in the lineup, but the edge grows with Bradford making the calls in the backfield. The Vikings defense will make life difficult for Mitchell’s first start, preventing Trubisky from creating a lot of long gains.
Chicago will try to pound the ground to open passing lanes for their rookie QB, but they’ll have even more difficulty dealing damage through the rush. The Vikings defense is the third-best against the rush in the NFL, allowing only 71.3 yards per game this season.
Opposing teams average only 3.06 yards per carry against Minnesota, and the Vikings prevent first downs with the best of them, with a third down rate of 25.6%. The Bears won’t be shut out, but it’s extremely unlikely they’ll generate enough yardage to win.
If Keenum ends up being the surprise starter for Minnesota, a four-point spread becomes a lot riskier, along with betting over on totals. The Vikings should win either way, but keep track of personnel and injury reports before wagering. Moneylines will begin to shift towards favoring the Vikings as news reports reveal Minnesota’s starting QB for Monday night.
NFL Monday Night Football
Only the hapless New York Giants haven't managed to beat or at least push the spread during the Monday night football schedule. The Vikings and the Coybows covered comfortably, while the Broncos earned a push against the Chargers.
With the exception of the Broncos/Chargers, totals have trended towards under instead of over, including a push. Week five should witness more scoring with Bradford and the Bears rookie QB playing better than alternative pivots.
