NFL Monday Night Predictions Week 3

NFL Monday Night Football

Dallas started the season off well with a resounding win over the New York Giants, their NFC East rivals. The Cowboys defense collapsed against Trevor Siemian and the Broncos in week two, with the help of a big performance from C.J. Anderson. Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott were invisible last week, and less than inspiring throughout the first two games. The Cardinals barely beat the Indianapolis Colts, who were without Andrew Luck. Carson Palmer’s had a tough start to the season and David Johnson’s on the injured reserve, severely curtailing Arizona’s output.

My Team's Next MatchDallas Cowboys

Neither NFL squad appears strong at this point, especially on offense. Both teams have struggled to gain yards, which makes an under bet on a total of 46.5 points the safe wager. Palmer’s struggle and the injury to Johnson make the Cardinals offense resemble the Giants, which was easily deflected by the Cowboys defense.

The Cowboys played what’s likely to be their worst game of the season against the Broncos. Expect better defense while Prescott and Elliott make strides towards their 2016 form. Dallas should be able to beat the spread to remain atop the NFC East conference, beating Arizona for the first time in more than a decade.

Dallas Cowboys at Arizona Cardinals Preview

The Cardinals were a bit of a hard luck team last year. They ranked sixth in points per game on offense and 14th in points against, slightly better than average. Despite these decent numbers, they finished with a 7-8-1 record, well out of the NFL playoff picture. Five of their eight losses were by a touchdown of less, while the tie game against the Seahawks in week seven could've gone either way. Winning two of those six close games would've catapulted the Cardinals into a wildcard spot.

Instead, the franchise finds itself in a difficult position only two games into the season, with deteriorating expectations. Palmer’s on the wrong side of 37 and appears to be fading over the past couple of seasons. He’s thrown one TD for every two interceptions he’s given up so far, and it’s tough to see him returning to his 2015 Pro Bowl form. The Cardinals also have one of the worst rushes in the league, made less effective because of injury.

Arizona won’t win because of defensive prowess either. The Cardinals look like they have a bottom-third defense, one that allowed Matt Stafford to mount a second half comeback with a trio of TD passes. This is the type of defense Dak Prescott needs to face. The offensive rookie of the year still hasn’t found firm footing this season, but a stint against the Arizona secondary could be the tonic he needs to kick start his arm.

Ezekiel Elloitt also looks for redemption in week three after a horrible game against the overpowering defense of the Broncos. If the Cardinals offense can’t convert first downs and possess the football, Zeke could face an Arizona defense which tires in the last half of the game. Don’t be surprised if Elliott has his second 100-yard game of the year en route to a Dallas win.
