NY Rangers vs Montreal Canadiens 2017 NHL Playoff Odds

My Team's Next MatchMontreal Canadiens

Original Six squads kick off the 2017 NHL postseason as Montreal and New York will meet for the 691st time in league history. Dating back to 1926, the Canadiens own a 371-223-96 edge in this rivalry duel. In more modern time, the Blueshirts rubbed out the Habs with a 4-2 quarterfinal series win during the 2014 NHL playoffs. Montreal won the 2016-17 season series 3-0 by a 12-7 margin.

Montreal has home ice advantage as they won the Atlantic Division with a 47-26-9 record. The Canadiens were all over the map this season as they had a 21-7-4 run that was followed by a 10-13-4 slide before they closed the year on a 16-6-1 hot streak. All-Star goaltender Carey Price is the key to the Canadiens making a long playoff run as he posted a fifth best 2.23 GAA this season.

New York is the top Eastern Conference Wild Card entry as they posted 102 points – one less than the Habs. The Blueshirts were hot for most of the season and their 43-22-2 start was due to a very proficient offense. The Big Apple Boys were soft down the stretch though as the Rangers closed the year on a 5-6-4 mini-skid. If Henrik Lundqvist returns to All-Star form the Habs could be in trouble.

Montreal vs New York 2017 NHL Playoff Series Summary – Rangers Win 4-2

Following the same path as the Calgary Flames, although with more resistance, Montreal is the second Canadian squad to be eliminated from the 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Game 6 was a near carbon copy of Game 5, except for the OT part, as the Habs started strong in the first period and then wilted when the Rangers pushed back. Hindsight is 20/20 but we should have backed up our pre-series futures bet as we could have cut our losses by backing the Blueshirts at Bodog. In the end, our Game 1 fears came to pass as Henrik Lundqvist (4-2 GAA 1.70) returned to his All-Star form and stopped 195 of the 206 shots he faced over six games. Adding up our two futures bets and six single game wagers - this was a costly series for us as 320 units leaked out of our bankroll.

Montreal Canadiens 2017 Stanley Cup Futures

Neck and neck on futures betting boards for months, the Rangers (+1300) and Canadiens (+1100) both have long Stanley Cup winning odds as they will face a tough road in the Eastern Conference. We weren’t big supporters of Montreal claiming the Cup when we looked at their chances back on March 17, 2017, and we still don’t like them. We would look to Washington or Pittsburgh to win the NHL title out of the East. Tell us who you like to capture Stanley and like us on Facebook to receive tons of NHL playoff updates. Also, bet with the best during the postseason by wagering with the puck betting specialist that we proudly recommend here at Canada Sports Betting.
