First NFL Coach To Be Fired Odds

First NFL Head Coach To Be Fired In 2018
Although usually well compensated, from a financial standpoint, the life of coaches in sports is demanding and they are often unappreciated. While bench bosses like Pat Summit (NCAAW) Phil Jackson (NBA) Vince Lombardi (NFL) Sparky Anderson (MLB) and Scotty Bowman (NHL) are revered, many coaches are reviled. Whether fair or not, when a team is on a losing run, the person running the show is usually first to attract the ire of hometown fans, plus General Managers and Owners.
Squarely under the microscope in the National Football League, arguably more so than any other sport, NFL head coaches are always in the news and often on the hot seat. Tony Dungy is a classic example as he turned around a terrible Tampa Bay team but was fired after the Buccaneers lost to Philadelphia during the Wild Card playoffs in 2002. That dismissal came after three straight TBB playoff appearances. Jon Gruden stepped in and the Bucs won Super Bowl XXXVII a season later.

As illustrated, in the odds table above, several coaches can feel somewhat secure heading into the NFL 2018 season while others are already feeling the heat. It stands to reason bench bosses like Super Bowl 53 coaches Bill Belichick and Doug Peterson are wrapped in a security blanket as their squads are highly ranked on our NFL Championship futures board. At the spectrums other end, early during NFL 2018, there are a few Generals who could be walking the plank to their demise.
Again, fair or not, Cleveland HC Hue Jackson (+350) leads the parade as the Browns have posted a 1-31 record during his first two seasons at the helm. Beyond Jackson, Adam Gase (+750) in Miami and Dirk Koetter (+900) Tampa Bay are also on the hot seat as their records with the Dolphins (16-16) and Buccaneers (14-18) are nothing to write home about. It is generally wise to remember that current NFL contracts play a role in whether a head coach is canned or remains gainfully employed.

American Football Conference Head Coaches In Peril
Competing against coaching legend Bill Belichick puts AFC East squads at a disadvantage right out of the gate. Belichick and New England have earned nine straight playoff berths and The Hoodie calls his own shots at this point in his career. After leading Buffalo to their first postseason berth in 18 years - Sean McDermott (9-7) enters his second season in Buffalo and seems fairly safe. Todd Bowles (20-28) begins his fourth campaign in New York and, along with Gase, can be viewed as top contenders to get axed - even though they both have two years left on their current contracts.
Populated by three of the longest serving NFL sideline Generals - the AFC North is primed for some top dog changes. Leading Pittsburgh to the playoffs, during nine of eleven seasons, Mike Tomlin is the safest bench boss in the division. After that, all three teams have question marks as Baltimore, Cincinnati and Cleveland each have candidates in hot water. Call us crazy but we sense a "better" season is on the horizon in Cleveland so Hue Jackson may not face the impending doom forecasted at Betway. However, Marvin Lewis (2003) and John Harbaugh (2008) may not survive NFL 2018.
Having two first year coaches helps keep the AFC South change winds calm. Frank Reich re-joins the Colts (2008 - 11) taking over from Chuck Pagano who was fired after six seasons and missing the playoffs three years in a row. Two-time Super Bowl Champion Mike Vrabel (NEP) takes over the top job in Tennessee after three seasons as an assistant in Houston. After leading Jacksonville to a the playoffs, with a 10-6 record, Doug Marrone heads into his second full year. Texans boss Bill O'Brien received a sweet four-year extension recently (01/13/18) and he appears safe as well.
New faces in the AFC West are many as Andy Reid leads with five years in Kansas City. The Chiefs have posted 53-27 record but have a dismal 1-4 postseason mark. A slow start, by sophomores RB Kareem Hunt and QB Patrick Mahomes, could spell the end of the road for Reid. Following rookie seasons, Anthony Lynn (9-7) in Denver and Vance Joseph (5-11) in Los Angeles, enter their second year. The Chargers are trending up while the Broncos have room for improvement. NFL veteran, but a rookie HC in Oakland, Jon Gruden will lead the Raiders venture into Las Vegas in 2019 or 2020.
Possible AFC Coaching Changes: Cincinnati Bengals, NY Jets, Miami Dolphins, KC Chiefs.
National Football Conference Bench Bosses On Hot Seats
Lead favorite, at +12.5K to not get fired, Doug Peterson and the Philadelphia Eagles look to 2-Peat. Surprised by his inflated (+2500) price, Dallas HC Jason Garrett (66-52) is the senior NFC East boss. Playing for an owner, who fired HOF Coach Tom Landry, Garrett is testing fate as the 'Boys have two playoff berths over seven seasons. Sporting a .28-35 record, Jay Gruden (28-35) has a deal in Washington through 2020 but plays for an impatient owner. From Michigan State in 1998 to the Vikings OC in 2017, Pat Shurmur is facing a rebuild but is safe in his first year with the NY Giants.
Experience is rare in the NFC North. Of the 16 total years, Packers boss Mike McCarthy leads the with 12 in Green Bay. After a 7-9 record last year, largely due to Aaron Rodgers starting just five game, some have given McCarthy a mulligan and he went untouched during a major front office overhaul in Wisconsin. Mike Zimmer led Minnesota to the 2018 NFC Championship game and, as per our teams to make the playoffs feature, we expect similar success this season. Detroit snagged Matt Patricia (NEP) and Chicago nabbed Matt Nagy (KC) as new (safe) sideline hawks.
Destined to have one coaching switch - NFC West stable-mates Tampa and Carolina may be in the market prior to Week 17 of the 2018 NFL season. Posted as third favorite (+900) at Betway, Dirk Koetter begins his third season at the helm of the Buccaneers ship with a 14-18 record. Not all his fault, the Bucs haven't made the NFC South playoffs during the past decade. Dan Quinn (29-19) rolls into his fourth year in Atlanta while Panthers HC Riverboat Ron Rivera is walking a tightrope after seven seasons. A living Bayou icon - Sean Payton is a monster pup with a +6600 NTGF line.
Jump on the least experienced NFC West coaching carousel with caution. As SB XLVII winner in 2014, runner-up in 2015, plus making the playoffs during six of his eight seasons, Pete Carroll (79-48-1) still has some staying power in Seattle. Beyond Carroll, we can't see second year coaches Sean McVay (11-5) or Kyle Shanahan (6-10) getting turfed in Los Angeles or San Francisco as the Rams and 49ers are both projecting up. First year Cardinals HC Steve Wilks, formally a member of the Carolina Panthers D-Coaching Crew (2012 to 2017) will oversee all 16 games for Arizona.
Hottest Of The NFC Early Hot Seats: Tampa Bay, Dallas, Washington and Carolina.
NFL Betting Options Are Abundant In Canada
From dicey preseason battles, the Hall of Fame Game is on August 2, 2018, to Super Bowl Sunday on February 4, 2019, online betting boards are choked full of fantastic NFL handicapping options. The Crew here at Canada Sports Betting is all over American football and our frequent updates all connect together to help Canuck 'Cappers make informed wagers. How is this for a correlation? Cincinnati is projected to win 6.5 games at Bodog and they are currently listed with a (+8000) Super Bowl price. If the Bengals are bunk early - Marvin Lewis (+1000) has a shot at being let go.
Possibly a better investment, since Tampa Bay has a (+4500) NFC winning futures price price at SportsInteraction, a coaching change can be expected in Florida. Starting aging (not well) pivot Ryan Fitzpatrick for a season opening run versus the Saints, Eagles and Steelers may insulate Dirk Koetter from the Sunshine State heat. Baring a preseason pickup, or trade, Fitz gets the start while QB Jameis Winston serves his "got off too easy" suspension. If the Bucs lose to the Browns, and fall to a 1-5 record after Week 7, Koetter (+900) will have his Pirate Ship keys revoked permanently.
