Golf Predictions: Early Swing at The Masters Betting Odds for 2018
2018 US Masters Best Bets and Sleepers
As favourites Jordan Spieth and Dustin Johnson prepare for Augusta in April, they'll have to get past a glut of would-be stars, sly veterans, and potential breakout players. Spieth is gunning for his second title while Johnson is still searching for his first title after missing last year due to some bad luck. Early odds indicate this year's tournament will be another exciting one with promise of a new winner or a redemption for the top two American golfers today.
We look at four players worth the attention.
Odds to win 2018 US Masters: +1200
Johnson may be ranked number-one but Spieth is arguably golf's best player right now. Having one of the best years on tour in 2015, Spieth captured the Masters Tournament and the US Open had three consecutive top-four finishes including being a runner-up to the PGA Championship and the 2016 Masters. However, his hot streak came to a crashing halt.
The rest of 2016 was one to forget for Spieth whose best finish was a tie for 13th place. In 2017, he started to regain his form and won The Open Championship giving him three total majors and just the PGA Championship short of a career grand slam.
Spieth will have to show a bit more consistency but based on talent alone, he should be the favourite here.Jordan Spieth (+1200)
Odds to win 2018 US Masters: +1000
The top golfer in the world right now is the second favourite just behind Jordan Spieth although he did open in a tie with him. Johnson was the star of 2016 where he won the US Open, his first major, and was named the PGA Tour Player of the Year. A freak accident involving a staircase prevented Johnson from participating in last year's Masters and derailed his 2017.
Johnson is back with a vengeance. To start 2018, he won the Sentry Tournament of Champions and in doing so achieved an extraordinary accomplishment by becoming only the third player to have won a title in his first 11 straight seasons on tour with only Jack Nicklaus (17) and Tiger Woods (14) before him.
Missing last year's Masters will be fresh in Johnson's mind and he'll have this as extra motivation for this tournament.Dustin Johnson (+1000)
Odds to win 2018 US Masters: +2000
The 23-year-old from Barrika, Spain is poised to be 2018's Breakout Player of the Year and winning the Master Tournament will all but seal it. Rahm was ranked 766 before 2016 but is now the world number-two following his victory at the CareerBuilder Challenge.
The Spaniard has four wins in just 38 professional starts, a feat bettered only by Tiger Woods. The young phenom has a pair of PGA Tour and European Tour victories and dominated the amateur circuit becoming the only player to win the Ben Hogan Award twice, a feat he accomplished in 2015 and 2016.
Nicknamed "Rahmbo", Rahm made 17 of the 19 PGA Tour cuts in 2017 and has both the vigor of youth and the poise of a veteran. The sports world should keep an eye out for this young buck beginning with this Masters Tournament.Jon Rahm (+2000)
Odds to win 2018 US Masters: +10000
In nearly half of the tournaments in the last decade, a largely unknown golfer has broken through the ranks to shock the world. 2016 saw Englishman Danny Willett wrest the title from Jordan Spieth while Charl Schwartzel in 2011 narrowly won. This year has some promising dark horses like Henrik Stenson (+4000), and Brandt Snedeker (+7700) but Branden Grace (+9000) stands out.
The South African has 12 professional wins including becoming the first man to in the history of the European Tour to win the titles in the same year. He also displayed his sublime talent by becoming the first to record a sub-63 score in a major when he shot 8-under-par (62) in the Open Championship.
Grace has only played in Masters Tournaments: in 2013 and 2017 with his best finish being a tie for 18th. He failed to make the cut in the years between these making him a true outlier. However, if he can rekindle his red-hot performance from The Open, he might just shock the world.Branden Grace (+10000)
