EPL Week 1 Predictions

EPL Week 1 Predictions

Premier League Games This Weekend

Results / FixturesPremier League

This Friday August 11th at 2:45pm the 2016-17 English Premier League season commences and many of the big teams have made significant changes.

Arsenal and Manchester United have both acquired big name strikers in Alexandre Lacazette and Romelu Lukaku, while defending champions Chelsea have frozen out their star man Diego Costa and acquired Alvaro Morata to hopefully fill his void.

Manchester City have splurged on several young fast wing forwards and defenders as Pep's rebuild enters year two with his side as the bookie's title favorites.

Tottenham, who have shown all the makings of a title winning squad, have not made any major additions to their team, and rather have only sold a player in Kyle Walker to their direct rivals. Also not playing at White Hart Lane anymore, where they were so dominant last season may have a negative effect on the upcoming campaign.

English Premier League Picks Week 1

The most important thing to acknowledge at the start of any season is the humble truth... We know nothing yet. But hard work and astute insight will hopefully lead us to profits once again.

Watford vs Liverpool

My Team's Next MatchLiverpool

Pick Liverpool (-167) William Hill

The early morning fixture on Saturday will take place at Vicarage road when Jurgen Klopp takes the Reds to face Watford. Last season Liverpool did the double over a really sorry Watford who finished with a -4 goal differential at home.

This preseason Liverpool's attack has been electric getting goals from many players including new acquisition Mohamed Salah who looks to have returned to England with a chip on his shoulder.

So even if Philippe Coutinho winds up transferring to Barcelona and even if Adam Lallana is sidelined with another injury, I expect Liverpool to hit the ground running. The coffee maker will be brewing for this one and hopefully so will Sadio Mane.

Everton vs Stoke

My Team's Next MatchEverton

Pick Everton (-133) William Hill

My early season thoughts on Everton are to hammer them at home and fade them on the road. Last season in Koeman's first year as the manager the Toffees were +26 at Goodison Park.

And though they have lost the goal scoring of Romelu Lukaku and have not yet sealed their transfer of Gylfi Sigurdsson, they have a solid back line, a very good young goalkeeper and fast, dynamic midfield trio that can absolutely boss games at home. Particularly against a Stoke side who is the definition of mediocrity. They finished -15 away from home last season and over the past 2 seasons in the league average only 1.08 goals per game and only 0.95 goals per game on the road.

These are trends that we can hopefully bank on all season long.

Brighton vs Manchester City

My Team's Next MatchManchester City

Pick the over 2.5 goals (-163) Bet365

I anticipate Manchester City will be scoring a lot of goals this season. I don't know how many goals they will concede because they seemed to have acquired a better goalkeeper than Claudio Bravo in Ederson and also no one may be able to keep the ball away from them long enough as they continue to create chance after chance.

Last season over 38 games they went over 2.5 goals 27 times and repeating a similar record feels more likely than not for Pep Guardiala's side.

Brighton Hove and Albion, in their promotion winning campaign, scored 2 goals a game at home and were 17-3-3. In the opening game of their season in the top flight this one could just turn into a shootout. I honestly don't think we will see too many Man City games this season with an Over 2.5 goals line of less than -200 so I intend to capitalize before the books adjust.

This will be my biggest play of the opening weekend.
