Anaheim Ducks vs Calgary Flames 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs Odds, Picks, Live Score
Anaheim vs Calgary 2017 NHL Playoff Odds
Far from the Happiest Place on Earth for the Flames, Calgary is trying to win a game in Anaheim for the first time since 2006. That’s an NHL record 27 straight losses as the Flames last win at the Duck Pond was during the first round of the 2006 playoffs. This is the second time in three years that Anaheim and Calgary are meeting in the playoffs. The Ducks won the season series by a 4-1 count.
Anaheim rolls into the playoffs as the NHL's hottest team. The Ducks soared through the back end of their schedule as they finished on a 13-1-3 run. It has been over a month since the Ducks lost in regular time and the majority of the wins were thanks to defense, their physical play and timely goal scoring. Anaheim won their last four games including a pair of wins (4-3 and 3-1) against Calgary.
Rebuilding, reloading, reshuffling and refreshing have all been used to explain the hockey scene in Calgary. After their surprise playoff appearance two years ago, the Flames missed the Big Dance last year and opened the season with a +5000 Stanley Cup Championship futures price. This is a better team than the one from two years ago and Calgary will put up a valiant fight in this rivalry series.

Calgary vs Anaheim 2017 NHL Playoff Series Summary – Ducks Win 4-0
Anaheim completed a quarterfinal NHL playoff series sweep of the Flames with a 3-1 Game 4 victory in Calgary. Despite the scores appearing to be close - the Ducks looked like big cats toying with a little mouse as the young Flames were dominated in this series. While we feel we deserved a better fate, an empty netter in Game 1 or 2 would have been nice, our predictions on this series did turn a profit. After dropping 200 units during the first two matches, we stormed back in the final two contests to earn a 175 unit overall return. The Ducks now get some much needed rest as they wait for the winner of the San Jose vs Edmonton series that is currently tied at two wins apiece.
Calgary vs Anaheim: Previous NHL 2017 Quarterfinal Playoff Predictions
Ducks vs Flames Game 1 Prediction - Anaheim Ducks 3-2 Final
Preview: Apart from an 8-3 December home win, the Flames were doused by the Ducks as Anaheim won the other four games by a 14-6 margin this season. The Flames do not match up well against the Ducks who play a rough and tumble style of game. Anaheim was second to the Los Angles Kings (28.3) with 26.2 hits per game - Calgary was 26th with 18.8 HPG.
Game 1 Prediction: Anaheim Ducks -1.5 (+165) Sports Interaction 100 Unit ATS. This series had a little extra pepper loaded into the rivalry pot when Anaheim lost Cam Fowler after a knee-on-knee hit from Flames Captain Mark Giordano. Fowler won’t be back for this series but, after a brawl filled third period in that game on April 4, we expect the rough stuff will be “clean” tonight. The Ducks will get Fowler a measure of revenge by extinguishing the Flames. Back Anaheim to win Game 1 by laying the SportsInteraction -1.5 (+165) puck line.
Flames @ Ducks Game 2 Prediction - Anaheim Ducks 3-2 Final
Game 1 Recap and Game 2 Preview: Disneyland continues to be more like Chucky Land for Calgary as the Flames dropped a 28th straight game in the Magic Kingdom. The 3-2 final score looks respectable, and the Flames had a 2-1 lead, but Anaheim still has a talent level advantage over the young Calgary Crew. Ryan Getzlaf was huge and the playoff experienced Ducks pounded 41 shots at Brian Elliot who kept the Flames in the game. Penalty problems plagued the Flames in Game 1 - if that trend continues this series will be over very quickly.
Game 2 Prediction: Anaheim -1.5 (+200) Puck Line 100 Units @ William Hill: On the right side in Game 1 - our ticket didn't cover the -1.5 ATS odds. It was unlucky that Anaheim took penalties late as we were hoping for an empty net goal. Law of averages dictate Calgary will win a match at the Duck Pond at some point but we don’t see that happening tonight. That is especially true if the Ducks fly out to an early lead as their experience would take over and douse the Flames. We are backing the puck line again tonight with a 100 unit wager on the -1.5 (+200) spread price posted on the William Hill NHL postseason betting board.
Ducks @ Flames Game 3 Prediction - Anaheim Ducks 5-4 (OT) Final
Game 2 Recap and Game 3 Preview: It was déjà vu all over again for Anaheim, Calgary and Us during Game 2 as the Ducks snuffed out the Flames by a 3-2 count in this Western Conference quarterfinal series. One can only imagine how Calgary would be faring if they weren’t taking retaliatory and/or lazy penalties. We know the Flames potted a shorthanded goal Saturday but the Ducks are now three for ten on the power play. Undisciplined, not in control, play is the hallmark of a young team that is guided by an equally young head coach.
Game 3 Prediction: Anaheim (+110) Money Line 100 Units @ Bet365: While it has to be in their heads, because everyone keeps talking about it, the Disneyland Curse can be put to rest as this series now shifts to the Stampede City. That said, dating back to their second round playoff meeting two years ago, Calgary is 2-5-0 at home against Anaheim. Puck drop is slated for 10:00 PM ET and the Sea of Red will rise at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Color us shocked as Calgary is chalk tonight – by a very slim of margin. Calgary pushed Game 3 to overtime and recorded a 4-3 victory back in 2015. Similar to the current hold Ottawa has on Boston, the Ducks own the Flames in the present, the past and even the very distant past. A little “gun-shy” on laying pucks, we'll back Anaheim with the (+110) Bet365 money line.
Ducks @ Flames Game 4 Prediction - Anaheim Ducks 3-1 Final
Game 3 Recap and Game 4 Preview: After laying pucks with Anaheim during Game 1 and 2, we backed off and bet the Ducks money line during Game 3. That pick appeared to be a bad one as Calgary jumped out to a 4-1 lead at a raucous Scotiabank Saddledome. Showing their playoff metal, Anaheim fought back with four unanswered goals and Corey Perry sealed the deal with a goal just 1:30 into overtime. This was a crushing loss for the Flames who had won 33 straight games when leading after two periods during the regular season.
Game 4 Prediction: Anaheim -1.5 (+265) 100 Unit Puck Line Bet @ Bodog. We received some redemption, after Washington blew a 3-1 lead to Toronto, and cashed a Game 3 win thanks to the Ducks valiant comeback. How the young Flames react to the demoralizing loss remains to be seen. However, even if they score a Game 4 victory, Calgary will head back to Anaheim where they have lost 29 straight contests. The Ducks should be as loose as a goose tonight while the Flames are fighting for their playoff lives – in front of their home-town fans. Rest is a valuable commodity at this time of the season and we feel the Ducks will douse the Flames and close out the series. Lay the -1.5 (+265) alternate puck line price at Bodog.
Calgary Flames 2017 Stanley Cup Futures
One has to wonder how the Fowler injury is going to affect Anaheim as he was their top scoring defenseman – by a country mile. That said, when you look up and down the Ducks line up you see a lot of playoff experience and a lot of top level players. During our look at the Flames Stanley Cup chances back on March 15, we placed a small wager on Calgary to win the Cup. That was before we knew the Ducks would be their opening round opponent = a futures betting pitfall.
Calgary has to win at least twice in Anaheim and the odds of that happening are not good. While anything can happen – we can’t recommend Calgary as a Cup contender at this point.
