NFL MVP Award Props
Basking in a glorious Great White North summer – we fully understand the classic lyrics from Pete Seeger, and later the Byrds, “To everything – turn, turn, turn, There is a season – turn, turn, turn”. While thrilling MLB, CFL and MLS action will continue, the machine that is the NFL is rolling into town. In fact, it never really left as Super Bowl LII prices have been posted at top sportsbooks since February. Can any team stop a Patriots 3-Peat? A quarterback needs to step up if the answer is yes.
Illustrated in the Canada Sports Betting LIVE odds widget above - we'll get a feel for the NFL MVP front-runners right out the gate. Tom Brady (Chiefs) Aaron Rodgers (Seahawks) David Carr (Titans) and Dak Prescott (Giants) face tough Week 1 tests. Patriots QB Tom Brady NFL 2017 MVP Odds
Running out of superlatives, the G.O.A.T NFL QB debate may conclude during Super Bowl Sunday, on February 4, 2018. If it hasn’t already been cast in stone. Aiming for a 3-Peat as NFL Champion and SB Most Valuable Player, Tom Brady begins his quest for a sixth Vince Lombardi Trophy, a fifth SB MVP award and a third NFL regular season MVP nod. A 13th Pro Bowl invitation will be issued if any of that production falls into place. Though it will be declined for the tenth time since 2006.
Not wanting to upset the Fantasy Football Injury Gods, we hope it's not déjà vu all over again for Captain America vs Kansas City as the Chiefs ended Brady's year in Week 1 ten years ago. Just 7:23 into their season opener at Gillette Stadium (07/09/08) Bernard Pollard snapped Brady's left knee and his 128 consecutive games started streak. The NFL 2017 "Welcome Back To Football" fight will be Brady's 127th start since 2009. Though not superstitious - we have a slight case of the Yikes!
There are a number of reasons one can confidently back Tom Brady as the 2017 NFL MVP. A "Been there - Done that" mantra is part of the equation but playing for one of the best organizations on the North American sports landscape certainly helps. Although it's not all "cupcakes" the Patriots regular season schedule is a factor. During his career, Brady has ruled the AFC East (70-20) plus the NFC South (13-3) and squads from those two divisions account for ten of the Patriots 16 games.
Packers QB Aaron Rodgers 2017 NFL MVP Odds
A perennial MVP candidate, QB Aaron Rodgers is the second favorite behind Brady as the leader of Cheesehead Nation is posted with a (+700) MVP betting line at SportsInteraction. Entering his 13th NFL season, tenth as the starter in Green Bay, Rodgers is a two-time (2011 & 2014) NFL MVP. The 2011 MVP season was a year after the Packers won Super Bowl XLV and Rodgers was the SB MVP. Ironically, Tom Brady prevented a Rodger's "hat-trick" in 2010 as he was the top NFL stud.
Rodgers enters the 2017 season with a career 104.1 passer rating and a 4.13 to 1 touchdown to interception ratio, which are both current NFL records. The Packers Field General led the NFL with 122.5 and 108.0 passer ratings in 2011 and 2012 with the former number still standing as the best single season mark in NFL history. Peyton Manning has the second best efficiency rank as he put up a 121.4 rating in 2004. Adding to his appeal - Rodgers beats teams with his arm, legs and mind.
Currently (17/07/17) Green Bay is posted with a 10 (-189) win total price and (+750) on the CSB Super Bowl LII futures board. Although some of the 2017 squads will better, and some will be worse, Rodgers has nine games against teams that ranked 16th or worse on defense last year. Of the higher-ranking defenses – we are not sold on the Vikings (3) or Bears (7) maintaining their 2016 level. If Green Bay covers their win total, we see 11-5 or 12-4 mark, Rodgers has a solid MVP shot.
Raiders QB Derek Carr NFL 2017 MVP Odds
Classic "bad news - good news" Oakland (Las Vegas) Raiders QB Derek Carr is coming off a broken leg he suffered during a sack by Colts LB Trent Cole in Week 16 last season. That blow punctured a promising playoff opportunity in NoCal and snapped a run of 47 straight starts by Carr. Good news is the Raiders have beefed up their offensive line and they lured stud RB Marshawn Lynch out of a self-imposed one-season NFL sabbatical. Personally, Carr is aiming for a third straight Pro Bowl nod.
Carr has emerged as true warrior and his production has steady increased during his first three seasons. Overall, through his first 47 starts, Carr has 11,190 passing yards, 81 touchdowns and 31 interceptions - including a career low six INT in 2016. Oakland finished with a combined 10-22 record during his rookie and sophomore campaigns before the former NCAA Fresno State Bulldog posted a sparkling 12-2 mark last year. Leading as Nomads of the NFL - the Raiders are for real.
Machines like the Patriots and Packers produce annually and, as such, looking at their past history sheds light on their present and future. Looking at Oakland's past doesn't cast proper brightness on the state of Raider Nation. That is due to the Raiders 53-123 'pre-Carr' record from 2003 to 2013. An intangible is the move to Las Vegas as the Raiders will play at the Oakland Coliseum for at least one more year. The "hometown" fan support may be as precarious as a porcupine in a balloon pit.
Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger 2017 NFL MVP Odds
Some may be surprised to hear that Pittsburgh QB Ben Roethlisberger is still searching for his first MVP award. Selected by the Steelers, in the first round (11th overall) during the 2004 NFL Draft, Big Ben entered the NFL following a record-setting career as a three-year starter for the Miami (Ohio) Redhawks. New York Giants QB Eli Manning and Los Angeles Chargers pivot Phillip Rivers were also in that draft class. Roethlisberger guided Pittsburgh to Super Bowl XL and XLIII titles.
Pittsburgh is looking for their first NFL title game shot since the Packers punted them 31-25 during Super Bowl XLV in 2011. Since then, the Steelers earned four playoff berths but a pounding by the Patriots (36-17) in the 2016 AFC Championship game is the furthest they have advanced. During 183 regular season starts, Roethlisberger is 123-60-0 and 13-7 in the postseason. With RB Le'Veon Bell and WE Antonio Brown in the fold, Ben has enough tools to earn top NFL stud recognition.
Being listed with a 10.5 (-118) regular season Over/Under win line also bodes well for Big Ben as Pittsburgh is facing a relatively light 2017 NFL slate. Beyond Green Bay (12) New England (15) and possibly their Week 4 battle in Baltimore, there aren’t many eye-popping pitfalls on the Steelers schedule that is ranked as the 28th easiest. The Steel City Crew has a decent chance to win the AFC Championship and a 12-4 mark might be enough to earn Roethlisberger center stage QB status.
Cowboys QB Dak Prescott NFL 2017 MVP Odds
Selected in the fourth round (135th OA) in the 2016 NFL Draft, Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott enjoyed a fantastic first season in the Lone Star State. Beating out sophomore QB Jameill Showers, Prescott earned the starters role after Tony Romo and Kellen Moore both suffered serious injuries in the preseason. The Mississippi State Bulldog product recorded a stellar NFL best rookie QB 104.9 passer rating as he completed 311 of 459 passes with 23 touchdowns and just four interceptions.
Prescott showed his raw athletic ability by rushing for another 282 yards and posting six scores as part of the Cowboys ground game. Dallas quickly became popular online betting picks as they posted a 13 -3 record and an easy first place overall finish in the NFC. That mark tied the best regular season in Dallas history as The ‘Boys won 13 games in 1992 and 2007. Following a dismal 4-12 dip in 2015 – Prescott led Dallas to franchise best nine win year-to-year turnaround in 2016.
As 2016 Offensive Rookie of the Year, Dak joined Calvin Hill, Tony Dorsett and Emmitt Smith as the Cowboys only OROY winners during their 58 NFL seasons. Prescott showed great ball-control as his first 176 pass attempts were tossed without an interception and broke Tom Brady's NFL record of 162 passes without an INT to start a career. In lofty company, Dak needs a big sophomore season to become the fourth youngest NFL MVP behind studs Jim Brown, Dan Marino and Walter Payton.
