NBA Picks: Raptors vs Sixers Point Spread
Toronto Raptors at Philadelphia 76ers Odds
After spending years in the basement of the NBA, the Philadelphia 76ers have finally started to reap the rewards of The Process. Joel Embiid alone may be worth the years of tanking and patience. With good health, the sky’s the limit for the rookie, who already flashes a skill set that’s beyond nearly all seven foot ballers. Current 76ers GM, Bryan Colangelo, helped to build the current era of excellent Raptors basketball, hiring coach Casey, drafting DeRozan and trading for Kyle Lowry. Toronto wants to collect another easy win before they play against the San Antonio Spurs and Memphis Grizzlies next week.
Similar to their last game against the Brooklyn Nets, last-minute personnel decisions could drastically affect the outcome of the match. Toronto rested Kyle Lowry against Brooklyn, which almost certainly reduced the winning margin against the Nets.
Patrick Patterson will likely receive another day of restoration for his aching knee, and coach Casey might choose to sit DeRozan or another starter against the underwhelming 76ers. Philadelphia will probably sit T.J. McConnell due to a wrist injury, although Nerlens Noel, Joel Embiid and Jahlil Okafor will likely make the rotation this match despite various ailments.
Raptors at Sixers NBA Prediction
Bet Toronto Raptors (-250) at Bet365 Sportsbook
During their soft spot in the schedule, Toronto’s been dismantling the opposition by double digits with relative ease, averaging about 122 points over the past three games.
More impressively, they scored 119 against Brooklyn last night without Kyle Lowry. Cory Joseph stepped up with a giant performance, hitting 15-22 from the field to earn a career-high 33 points. Ross and rookie Fred VanVleet also scored double digits on efficient shooting, showing that the Raptors bench unit provides superb depth. As such, expect the Raptors to approach 120 points, regardless of the lineup on court.
The Raptors need their offense to perform well because of their drop in defensive efficiency this season. Toronto’s actually ranks below the Philadelphia 76ers in terms of defensive efficiency and adjusted defensive rating. Despite years of adversity, coach Brett Brown has stressed defense for his young, athletic squad, and the results are beginning to show statistically, and in the win column. Philadelphia is ranked dead last in all offensive metrics, representing the next step in this team’s evolution. Depending on the sportsbook you’re with, the point spread for this matchup ranges from 5.5 to 6.5, in favor of the Raptors.
This is the second match of a back-to-back for Toronto, and the Sixers have won four of their last five games, which is the probable reason for a spread that’s less than double digits. However, Toronto has already beaten Philadelphia twice this year; the first match was a 27-point blowout, and the second game was a nine-point win on the road. Ergo, the Raptors should be able to win by more than two possessions. The projected total rests at 215, which is a reasonable target to beat considering that these two squads averaged a total of 227 points during their two meetings.
NBA Picks Tonight | January 18, 2017
The NBA has nine games lined up for a busy Wednesday evening, including an exciting matchup between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Golden State Warriors.
As usual, Golden State is heavily favored to win, but Russell Westbrook will make this game interesting, making it difficult for the Warriors to beat a spread of 13.5. Moneylines list the Memphis Grizzlies as an underdog against the Washington Wizards, offering a decent payout for betting on Memphis, which has been the superior team this season.
