NBA Picks: Raptors at Grizzlies Point Spread
Toronto Raptors at Memphis Grizzlies Odds
Bumps in the road eventually appear for even the best of NBA teams, and the Toronto Raptors have a big hill to climb for tonight’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies. After a great start to the season, injuries and the association’s scheduling software have contributed to a tough 2017. With DeRozan out and Lowry experiencing frustration on the offensive end, the Raptors will need special performances from the rest of their rotation to avoid lengthening the futility steak to five.
It's been nearly two years since the Raptors have played this badly, with their last four game losing streak taking place during March of 2015. This stretch of nine losses over the past 15 games started when the Raptors dropped a 121-111 decision against Golden State just before the new year. The worst stat to emerge over the past month involves Toronto’s terrible defense. Before the slide, the Raptors were already an average NBA defense. During this losing pattern, the Raptors have given up a whopping 109.1 points per game, allowing opponents to shoot 46.8% from the field, including a ridiculous 40% from the three-point line.

Toronto's recent incompetence places them in the bottom five of the association defensively this past month, but it’s not as if the Memphis Grizzlies have been tearing it up as of late. The Grizz have dropped six of their last ten games, including losses to the Bulls and Wizards, along with a 24-point blowout at home versus the Rockets. At the beginning of the season, Memphis also lost by 15 against the Raptors, but Toronto was in the middle of a six-game winning streak, playing some of their best ball this season.
The matchup dynamics have changed drastically over the past two months, with the Raptors at a severe disadvantage for tonight’s game. Less than 24 hours after losing a heart breaker to the Spurs at home, Toronto plays their third game in four nights on the road, without DeMar DeRozan in the lineup. These represent the most difficult set of circumstances that the Raptors have faced all season, and the lineup isn’t in any condition to handle this level of adversity. Expect the Grizzlies to beat an estimated spread of six.
Memphis has given up more than 100 points in eight of their last ten games, so their defense hasn’t been playing well either. A total of 201 appears to be a bit low considering the lack of defense displayed by both squads, so betting over should be a slightly safer play.
NBA Picks Tonight | January 25, 2017
Tonight’s hectic NBA schedule features 10 games, including three of the top five squads in the association. The basketball world has witnessed some weird outcomes over the past few days, none stranger than Miami’s Dion Waiters hitting a game winner to sink the Warriors at the buzzer. Juicy point spreads include 11.5 for Cleveland over Sacramento, 11 for Milwaukee against Philadelphia, 10 for Golden State at Charlotte and 9.5 favoring Portland over the Lakers. The NBA tends to be one of the most predictable sports leagues in North America, which means that favorites will soon reassert their status, stemming the recent trend of underdog winners. Now’s the time to explore potential upsets, which will likely fade in frequency after the all-star break.
