NBA Picks: Conference Quarterfinals Odds For April 23, 2017

NBA Picks: Conference Quarterfinals Odds For April 23, 2017
The NBA playoffs could witness the first team kicked out of the post season on Sunday, April 23rd, as the Cleveland Cavaliers visit the Indiana Pacers for an early, 1 PM EST tip-off. During a busy day of basketball action, the Oklahoma City Thunder, Boston Celtics, and Utah Jazz attempt to even their series against the Houston Rockets, Chicago Bulls, and the L.A. Clippers.

Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Indiana Pacers NBA Playoff Odds

My Team's Next MatchCleveland Cavaliers

Cleveland Cavaliers Regular Season Record: 51-31
Indiana Pacers Regular Season Record: 42-40
Canada Sports Betting Pick: Cleveland Cavaliers (-175) at Bodog

Game three witnessed an historic performance by King James, who dragged his Cavaliers squad from 26 points down, beating a shocked Pacers squad by five. LeBron James stat line shows why he’s still the best in the game: 41 points, 13 boards, 12 dimes, two blocks, 14-27 FG, including 6-12 from three. This comeback was achieved mostly without the help of Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love.

Indiana’s defense buckled under a configuration that featured four shooters spread around the arc, with LeBron driving and kicking at will. At the same time, the Pacers scored only forty points in the second half, with Paul George, Myles Turner and Lance Stephenson heaving the enough bricks to build a small shed. Cleveland should complete a tidy sweep in game four, without the drama of a huge comeback.

Houston Rockets vs. Oklahoma City Thunder NBA Playoff Odds

My Team's Next MatchOklahoma City Thunder

Houston Rockets Season Record: 55-27
Oklahoma City Thunder Season Record: 47-35
Canada Sports Betting Pick: Houston Rockets (-105) at Bodog

The Oklahoma City Thunder had a breakthrough in game three, squeaking out a two-point win over the hard-charging Houston Rockets, who ceded the loss after a couple of bad possessions to end the match. Unfortunately for the Thunder, they earned this narrow victory despite shooting 55.4% from the field, and 47.4% from three.

The Rockets had an uncharacteristically poor evening on both ends of the floor, hitting 28.6% of their three point shots and earning only 10 assists – one less than Russell Westbrook had on his own. Defense doesn’t form the heart of the Houston Rockets identity, so the occasional poor effort should be expected.

However, the lack of ball movement was shocking for the Rockets, and coach Mike D’Antoni will make sure that the offense starts clicking at a high level again. Houston’s identity revolves around bludgeoning opponents with their overwhelming offensive attack. Expect the Rockets to take off in game four, securing a 3-1 lead in the series.

Boston Celtics vs. Chicago Bulls NBA Playoff Odds

My Team's Next MatchBoston Celtics

Boston Celtics Season Record: 53-29
Chicago Bulls Season Record: 41-41
Canada Sports Betting Pick: Boston Celtics (-150) at Bodog

Fortune swung firmly towards the Boston Celtics after game two when Rajon Rondo was announced as out for the rest of the season with a broken thumb. Without Rondo in game 3, the Bulls were out of sync on offence, and lacked the size and smarts to defend against the Celtics. Instead of a huge scoring game from Isaiah Thomas, Boston depended on superb distribution to get themselves back into the series.

Thomas had nine assists, Avery Bradley dished seven dimes, and Al Horford earned six assists. As a whole, Boston managed to accumulate 34 assists, compared to only 14 for the Chicago Bulls. This trend should continue for the rest of the series, as the Bulls now rely too much on Jimmy Butler for Chicago’s offense. Without Rondo, the Celtics should be able to even this series tonight.

Los Angeles Clippers vs. Utah Jazz NBA Playoff Odds

My Team's Next MatchUtah Jazz

Los Angeles Clippers Regular Season Record: 51-31
Utah Jazz Regular Season Record: 51-31
Canada Sports Betting Pick: Utah Jazz (-140) at Bodog

Perhaps the least lucky team in the NBA over the past few years, the Los Angeles Clippers again find themselves without one of their big three during the playoffs. Blake Griffin will not play for the remainder of the post season due to a serious toe injury, depleting a Clippers rotation which depends heavily on Chris Paul, DeAndre Jordan and Griffin to steamroll opponents on most nights. At the beginning of the series, it appeared that the Clippers were the ones to catch a break when Rudy Gobert went down with a hyperextended knee.

Despite losing Gobert early in game one, the Jazz managed to steal a road win from Los Angeles while undermanned, and now it looks like that win will make all the difference. Instead of a 3-0 deficit, the Jazz have the chance to even the series as two with a home win against a Blake-less Clippers. Considering how well Utah has rallied without Gobert, it appears that Los Angeles will miss their star the most for the rest of the series.

Look for the Jazz to take full advantage of this opportunity, with the series retuning to Los Angeles tied at two apiece.
