NBA Picks: Cavaliers vs Warriors Point Spread

NBA Picks: Cavaliers vs Warriors Point Spread

Cleveland Cavaliers at Golden State Warriors Odds

With all due respect to the San Antonio Spurs and Gregg Popovich, the Warriors and the Cavaliers have been the two best teams in the NBA over the past two seasons, and the association fully expects these franchises to meet for a third straight time in the finals. Incredibly, both teams have improved since the Cavs won the championship. Golden State managed to lure Durant in the off-season, creating what could be the deadliest offensive lineup in history. Cleveland recently swapped for Kyle Korver, one of the few shooters able to match the Splash Brothers from behind the arc.

Part of the reason why Cleveland acquired Korver was due to J.R. Smith’s recent injury. A broken thumb could have lasting repercussions for Smith’s smooth jumper, necessitating the trade. Korver doesn’t have J.R.’s athleticism, which could negatively affect Cleveland’s defense. The number of open looks that Korver will receive playing alongside James, Irving and Love should be worth the dip in defensive efficiency. Golden State has a clean bill of health and enjoyed a relaxed holiday schedule compared to Cleveland’s long, hectic road trip, giving the Dubs an advantage in terms of rest and fitness.

Cavaliers at Warriors NBA Prediction

Bet Golden State Warriors (-357) at William Hill Sportsbook

This matchup means more to the Warriors than the Cavaliers, given their recent history. In the NBA Finals, the Warriors let the Cavs come back from a 3-1 deficit. During their Christmas Day clash, the Warriors were up by 13 points before James and Irving cued the comeback. Since the Dubs want to quit their habit of letting the Cavs return from the dead, this game has more significance to them than the usual mid-January bout.

Recently, the Cavaliers have dealt with a difficult road trip, including extended travel throughout the west coast. Recent losses against the Portland Trail Blazers and the Utah Jazz points to genuine fatigue among the big three. Cleveland has absolutely nothing to prove, so there’s a small chance Coach Lue might rest or restrict minutes for LeBron, Love and Irving, especially if Golden State jumps out to a big lead. As always, keep an eye on the lineups to make sure you don’t get blindsided by last-minute roster changes.

According to their standards, the Cavs have been struggling, while the Warriors have been mostly floating along as Curry and Durant continue to grow their on-court chemistry. Since Christmas, the sole blip on their record is a 128-119 double overtime loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, caused by an 8-30 night from beyond the arc. Other than that, they’ve won all their matches by eight points or more. Considering the spread of 7.5, betting on the Dubs winning by three or more possessions is an acceptable risk. These teams combined for 117 points for their last meeting, so the projected total of 226 appears to be inflated. During the last five games, the Cavs and the Dubs have scored more than 226 once, making an under bet less risky than over.

NBA Picks Tonight | January 16, 2017

MLK Day in the NBA is a busy won, with nine games on the schedule, including tonight’s marquee matchup. The other big game to keep an eye on involves the Oklahoma City Thunder visiting the Staples Center to take on the Los Angeles Clippers, who are without Blake Griffin. This clash of point guards should produce a fantastic game, and Russell Westbrook has the ability to steal a game from any opponent. Betting on the Thunder represents a very good underdog payout, given the circumstances.
