St. Louis Cardinals vs San Diego Padres LIVE MLB Betting Lines and Prediction
National League MLB Betting Preview: Cardinals vs Padres
Struggling through a down-season, by their lofty standards, St. Louis is 48-44 and they are eight games behind the Chicago Cubs in the National League Central Division. The Cubbies lead has the Cardinals looking at the NL Wild Card playoff path as they are just two games behind the Miami Marlins in that race. The Cardinals have a solid 27-16 road record but they are just 21-28 at Busch Stadium this season. That slide is ongoing as St. Louis is 6-7 during their last 13 home games.
Hot out of the All-Star break, with three straight wins over NL West leading San Francisco by a 16-10 margin, San Diego is still 16 games behind the Giants. The Wild Card picture isn’t much better as the Friars are 9.5 games back and they trail six teams in that race. Pitching has been a problem for the Padres as their 461 runs allowed is the fifth highest in the Majors. San Diego has struggled to an 18-27 record as visitors this season. The Friars have lost three in a row at Busch Stadium.

MLB Wagering Tip: Tonight’s Pitching Matchup Favours the St. Louis Cardinals
Taking over as the ace of the St. Louis pitching staff, RHP Carlos Martinez (8-6 ERA 2.85) heads to the hill here. Martinez has been lights out recently allowing just nine earned runs, over 54.1 innings pitched, during his last eight starts. Martinez gave up one run, over five innings, in an 8-1 St. Louis win over the Brewers in his last outing on July 9 in Milwaukee. We expect Martinez to stay hot.
San Diego sends sophomore RHP Colin Rea (5-3 4.95 ERA) to the bump tonight. Rea was fairly solid during the first two months of the season but he has given up 29 runs (23 earned) during his last seven starts. Rea struggles in matches away from pitcher friendly Petco Park as his ERA balloons to 5.52 during contests on the road. In his last start Rea allowed four runs over 4.2 innings during a 13-6 win over Arizona. Back St. Louis with a five-unit (-196) ML wager at SportsInteraction.
Editor's Note: This game was rained out but the starting pitchers remain in place. We will keep our wager and back the Cardinals when first pitch flies at 2:15 PM ET on July 20, 2016.
