BC Juvenile Turf Picks 2016

The 2016 BC Juvenile Turf is shaping up to be one of the best betting races of the Friday, November 4 championship card at Santa Anita in a race where pace, quality and improving runners are all looking to make their mark in the first Breeders' Cup event of the weekend.

  1. 1st: Good Samaritan (11)
  2. 2nd: (6) Big Score
  3. 3rd: (14) Ticonderoga
  4. 4th: (13) Oscar Performance

Favorites Deserve Close Look

Although the field is full of potential betting value, there's no reason to knock the first few choices in this event with Oscar Peformance (4/1) and Good Samaritan (9/2) leading the North American contenders and Intelligence Cross (6/1) emerging as an intriguing European challenger. Oscar Performance has displayed front-running dominance in his last two turf starts, winnign by a combined 16 1/4-lengths after losing his career debut. The son of prominent turf sire Kitten's Joy is trained by Brian Lynch and will be ridden by J.L Ortiz while breaking from post 13.

Good Samaritan is 2 for 2 for Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott and earned a monster 92 Beyer Speed Figure last out winning the Grade 2 Summer Stakes at Woodbine. He will break from post 11 with regular pilot Joel Rosario aboard. Intelligence Cross will have to stretch out a bit for trainer Aidan O'Brien, but will get first-time Lasix and displayed top rm sprinting in England.

Several Live Longshots

Lancaster Bomber (6/1) may not technically be a longshot, but the other half of the Aidan O'Brien entry may get overlooked by the betting public. Channel Maker (30/1) has great tracking speed and would be a bargain at half of his morning line price while making his second start around two turns - an angle where the colt figures to show improvement. Ticonderoga (15/1) looks like a top-class horse and hails from a barn that excels with bringing along its young turf horses.

It will also be intersting to see how far the speedy Wellabled (15/1) can take this field on the front end. At the very least, this talented sprinter can force the favored Oscar Performance to adopt a differnt running style. With plenty of speed in the race, Big Score (8/1) is a serious threat after winning the Zuma Stakes at Santa Anita in his last start. The Tim Yakteen is 2 for 3 in his career to go with a second-place effort, and has the advantage of racing out of his own barn.

Handicapping MLB Starting Pitchers For Baseball Betting
Major League Baseball revolves around pitching, more so when the playoffs roll around in October. Contenders with big bats and slick fielders will only go as far as their pitching staff allows. As such, handicapping starting pitchers reveals the odds that a team will win an individual ballgame. Baseball clubs with the best starting pitchers have a much greater chance of winning pennants and World Series rings.
