MLB Spring Training 2018: Preview, Key Dates, Broadcast Schedule

MLB Spring Training 2018: Preview, Key Dates, Broadcast Schedule

MLB Exhibition Games

My Team's Next MatchToronto Blue Jays

The MLB preseason begins in just a few short days and the entertaining, yet long, offseason finally comes to a close. While we can't wait for the regular season, Spring Training is sure to excite as well and could provide good opportunities to make some cash even before the season truly gets into gear. The Grapefruit and Cactus Leagues will get underway in Florida and Arizona, respectively on Feb. 23, but the very first game begins sooner than that.

The first game of the preseason will be an exhibition match between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Arizona University Sun Devils on Feb. 21 at Salt River Fields, near Scottsdale, AZ. The following day will have the Boston Red Sox, Tigers, Phillies, and Twins, taking on other universities, with the Red Sox taking on their in-state college Eagles team and the Twins facing their in-state college Gophers team.

MLB Spring Training 2018

The first full day of MLB will be played on Feb. 23 with all 30 teams taking the field in both the Cactus and Grapefruit Leagues. The new Ballpark of the Palm Beaches will be filled as fans gather to watch the World Series champs, the Houston Astros, in their first game since their Championship win back in November. They'll be facing the NL East champion Washington Nationals. Both teams train at this ballpark. The runners-up, the Los Angeles Dodgers, will be facing the White Sox to open up their preseason campaign at Camelback Ranch over in Glendale, AZ.

Another game to look out for on Friday is  the NLWC rematch between the D-Backs and Colorado Rockies, which also takes place at Salt River Fields. Depending on price, the Rockies might be a good play here if they are the dog.

AL Rookie of the Year Aaron Judge should be making an appearance earlier in the day as the New York Yankees take on the Tigers at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, FL. The Bronx Bombers are expected to go far in 2018 and are favored to win the World Series, even over the current champion Astros. Don't be fooled though, this could influence their prices in the preseason, and for games that don't mean anything in the grand scheme of things, it might be better to fade them for a better price with the dog. Don't use this tactic with the BoSox though. After signing J.D. Martinez to a 5-year $110 million deal, look for the slugger to impress with his first opportunity.

Springing ahead to March, the Cleveland Indians will be taking on the Cubs in the 2018 Las Vegas Big League Weekend on March 17-18. On the 24th-27th, we have some special exhibition games. The 24th gives us the Giants taking on their Triple-A affiliated team, the Sacramento River Cats.

On the 25th, a primetime game is on deck as the Dodgers take on the Angels at Angel Stadium, their home ballpark in Anaheim.  On the 26th, four other teams face their Triple-A affiliates, as the White Sox take on the Knights, the Orioles face the Tides, Kansas City will be against the Storm Chasers, and the Padres playing the Chihuahuas at Southwest University Park.

March 27 is the final day in the preseason and will surely end with a bang. As they've done in recent years, the Toronto Blue Jays will be playing a two-game series at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal against the Cards. This is another coinflip series, so it would be wiser to take the dogs in this situation. The rest of the league's home teams that day will be playing in their home ballparks instead of in their special Florida and Arizona locations.

Then, there's a well deserved one day break before the regular season starts up on March 29. For the first time, every team will be in action on Opening Day, so stick with us and don't miss a beat... or a bat.

Handicapping MLB Starting Pitchers For Baseball Betting
Major League Baseball revolves around pitching, more so when the playoffs roll around in October. Contenders with big bats and slick fielders will only go as far as their pitching staff allows. As such, handicapping starting pitchers reveals the odds that a team will win an individual ballgame. Baseball clubs with the best starting pitchers have a much greater chance of winning pennants and World Series rings.
