MLB Predictions: Toronto Blue Jays vs Tampa Bay Rays
TB Rays at Blue Jays MLB Odds
It's the second game of a the Tampa Bay Rays' (12-12) three-game series in Toronto, and look to get above .500 with a second straight win over the Blue Jays (6-17) on Saturday afternoon. Toronto led the Rays, but they rallied to get the 7-4 win on Friday night. Tampa Bay was behind 3-1, but scored 6 runs in the final two frames to steal the win, including 4 home runs.
Of their 12 wins, 8 have been from rallying from behind. 5 of their last 6 wins have been come from behind victories as well. Corey Dickerson hit a home run in the 8th, making him 5 for 12 in his last 3 games, and Jason Grilli tied it up, before Logan Morrison gave them the lead with a 2 run homer off reliever Dominic Leone.
For the Toronto Blue Jays, they have been in a rut, and still have the worst record in the majors. Tampa Bay has double their wins, and is still only 4th in the AL East. The Jays have their work cut out for them if they want to make this a competitive season. Marcus Stroman pitched well yesterday, striking out 10 in 7.1 innings, and leaving the game with the lead, but their bullpen, which also gave up a 4-0 lead to the Cardinals just a day prior, gave up the lead, and game, again.
Right-hander Matt Andriese (1-0, 3.86 ERA) starts for the Rays. He is competent but has trouble keeping the ball in the park, giving up at least a home run in all of his starts so far this season.
Against the Blue Birds, he's 0-1, with a 4.88 ERA in 8 appearances, 4 of which were starts. At the Rogers Centre, he's 0-0, with a 4.05 ERA in 2 starts. Justin Smoak is 3 for 4 with a homer against him. The Blue Jays counter with Francisco Liriano (1-2, 4.58 ERA), but will it be enough?
He's been wildly inconsistent, allowing 3 hits, 4 walks, and 5 runs in his season debut on the road against Tampa Bay, lasting only 0.1 innings. Since then, he's only given up 4 runs in 17.1 innings over 3 starts. Against the Rays, he's 2-3, with a 5.85 ERA. Evan Longoria is 7 for 20 against him with 2 home runs.Tampa Bay Rays (+115) SportsInteraction
MLB Picks Today - April 29, 2017
The way things are going for the Blue Jays, it would be wise to lay off them again for this game. They are near the bottom of the table in offense with only 82 runs scored, and near last in ERA as well. When neither offense nor defense in a strength, there's going to be problems.
Their starting rotation is decent enough, but with a depleted offense, and weak bullpen, it's best to avoid taking the team with the worst record. Things might change when Josh Donaldson or Troy Tulowitzki come back.
In terms of trends, the Rays are clearly the play, as they are 7-3 in their last 10 at Rogers Centre, while the Blue Jays are 1-4 in Liriano's last 5 starts, and are 6-15 in their last 21 games against a right-handed starter. Their home record shows their home field advantage is non-existent right now. Take the Tampa Bay Rays at +115 at Sports Interaction.
