Toronto Blue Jays vs Seattle Mariners

My Team's Next MatchToronto Blue Jays

The Toronto Blue Jays (14-21) host the Mariners (17-18) for Game 2 of their 4 game set at Rogers Centre on Friday. The Jays took the first game by a score of 7-2, containing the Seattle offense. This game could be a wild one though, as neither starting pitcher is used to playing the role of starter.

The Seattle Mariners couldn't keep their 4 game winning streak going on Thursday, as the Blue Birds stopped them in their tracks. Robinson Cano was a late scratch, after returning on Wednesday in stellar fasion, going 4 for 5 with a home run. He's hit .349, going deep 7 times, in his past 21 games. Jean Segura played well yesterday, continuing his 10 game hitting streak. He's 20 for 47 during that span, and has at least 2 hits in 7 of his last 8 games.

It wasn't enough on Thursday though, as Toronto took the convincing win. But how about them Jays? We knew they were due for a run, and here they come. After starting the season 2-11, and after everyone counted them out, they've gone 12-10 since.

Not the best record by any means, but a stark improvement. A win on Friday would give them their second 3 game winning streak of the year. In the Jays' last game, it was Justin Smoak who put up the offense, with 4 RBIs, and a home run, cementing the win for the home team. The crowd is more optimistic now, so that home field advantage should be back.

SEATTLE MARINERS (+120) SportsInteraction

Hisashi Iwakuma was supposed to start Thursday, but Chase De Jong replaced him after he was put on the DL (Seattle's 4th starter to be injured). That leaves relief pitcher Christian Bergman (0-0, 2.45 ERA) the opportunity to start today. He allowed 1 run in 3.2 innings against Texas on Sunday in his last outing. The right hander has never faced the Jays before, and is 7-9, with a 5.71 ERA in 56 appearances. In the minors, he was a perfect 5-0 in 5 starts, with a 2.17 ERA for Triple A Tacoma.

Joe Biagini (0-1, 2.78 ERA) takes the mound for the Jays. Toronto's had problems with their starting rotation as well, with Aaron Sanchez and J.A. Happ injured and Mat Latos unavailable. Biagini got his first start last week in Tampa Bay, playing great, but only getting a no-decision in the 2-1 loss.

MLB Picks And Parlays Today

Despite the Jays' resurgency, we'll have to take the Mariners here. Biagini didn't get the win, but kept his team in the game, and we expect something similar here. He's expected to be on a short pitch count, so while he might play well, the Mariners will get to rip into the Toronto bullpen.

The Mariners were at .500 before the Jays ruined that high, so be sure they will fight harder to get back there. They played well, but just had a rough game, breaking their 4 game streak. If Robinson Cano plays, which is questionable at this point, look for the line to move accordingly.

Trends seem to go back and forth between both teams, but with the Jays' record, and inconsistent offense, there's no reason for them to be favorites here, other than because the game is at the Rogers Centre. Take the Seattle Mariners here at +120 at Sports Interaction.

Handicapping MLB Starting Pitchers For Baseball Betting
Major League Baseball revolves around pitching, more so when the playoffs roll around in October. Contenders with big bats and slick fielders will only go as far as their pitching staff allows. As such, handicapping starting pitchers reveals the odds that a team will win an individual ballgame. Baseball clubs with the best starting pitchers have a much greater chance of winning pennants and World Series rings.
