CFL Week 17 Predictions

CFL Odds Week 17

Apart from Calgary clinching first overall in the league, little was decided in the CFL playoff races last week. Hamilton and Ottawa have both dropped two straight games so they remain separated by one point in the battle for first in the CFL East. After Winnipeg squeaked past BC and Edmonton mauled Montreal the Lions, Blue Bombers and Eskimos are separated by two points in the race for second place in the wickedly stacked West. Edmonton will be eyeballing the BC vs Winnipeg war as the Eskimos get a well-deserved bye this week. Here are the LIVE CFL Week 17 online betting lines.

CFL Week 16 Wagering Recap

A pair of gut-wrenching losses, coupled with two dominating wins, left us with a 2-2 mark on our CFL Week 16 predictions. Ottawa missed a 30-yard chip shot field goal and then Saskatchewan nailed a 39-yard attempt as the ‘Riders won 32-30 in overtime to crush our money line wager. Our late game blues continued as BC was accidentally stopped at the three-yard line, by a Blue Bombers defender who was rolling on the turf, and the Lions lost 37-35 as +1.5 pups in Winnipeg. Our two road favourites easily covered as Edmonton (-3) and Calgary (-9) posted wins over Montreal (40-20) and Toronto (48-20) respectively to help us enjoy a happy Thanksgiving Monday. Let's get to our Week 17 CFL predictions using odds posted on the betting boards at SportsInteraction and Bodog.

Week 17 CFL Predictions

Ottawa Redblacks @ Hamilton Tiger-Cats 2016 CFL Week 17 Prediction

Tim Hortons Field 7:00 PM ET October 14, 2016

Playoff stretch drives are one of the reasons we are passionate about sports. That said, what’s going on the CFL East Division is a dumpster fire rather than a solid division title chase. Ottawa (6-7-1) heads to Hamilton (6-8) for a contest that gives the winner a leg up in the race for a first round bye in the 2016 CFL playoffs. Since these teams meet again next week, a series sweep by either squad would tilt the table in the victors favour. After losses to Saskatchewan (20-18) and Calgary (36-17) Hamilton had a bye last week – we hope they worked on their defense. Ottawa caught a streaking ‘Riders squad but missing that chip shot field goal may come back to haunt them. Strangely, this is the first match of the season between these East rivals. Last year was even weirder though as the Tiger-Cats and Redblacks closed out the year against each other with Ottawa winning both games 12-6 on the road and 44-28 at home. This fight, between the fifth and sixth “best” teams in the CFL, is a tough tussle to get a handle on. Believing Hamilton will defend their home turf, we'll lay the -3 (-105) point spread and back the Tiger-Cats over the Redblacks at the Bodog sportsbook.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers @ BC Lions CFL 2016 Week 17 Prediction

BC Place Stadium 10:00 PM ET October 14, 2016

Quoting the late Yogi Berra “it’s like deja vu all over again” as Winnipeg (9-6) faces BC (9-5) for a second straight week. The venue changes, BC Place hosts this contest, but the stakes are just as high as the Blue Bombers and Lions both have 18 points and sit second behind the uncatchable Calgary Stampeders. There may be a little more pressure on Winnipeg as they’ve played one game than BC but the Lions last three games are all against West Division foes while Winnipeg will close out their season with a home-and-home series versus a wobbling Ottawa squad. The Blue Bombers jumped out to a 24-3 lead last week but the Lions clawed back and went up 30-27 at the end of the third quarter. After the Bombers took a 37-33 lead in the fourth, the Lion feel short on a third and one attempt from the four-yard line in the final minute to seal the deal for Winnipeg. There isn't much separating these teams so take the +5.5 (-110) and back Winnipeg at SportsInteraction.

Saskatchewan Roughriders @ Toronto Argonauts 2016 CFL Week 17 Prediction

BMO Field 4:00 PM ET October 15, 2016

One team is on life support while the other is eliminated from the playoff race as Toronto (5-10) hosts Saskatchewan (4-12) to kick off the first half of the CFL Saturday doubleheader. Although it’s far too little, far too late, the Roughriders have won three straight contests by a razor thin 78-71 combined count. The ‘Riders streak began with a three-point upset of Edmonton and then they won two-point squeakers against Hamilton and Ottawa. After winning two straight games, prior to a bye in Week Seven, Toronto has sandwiched one win between four losses to go 1-8 over their last nine contests. The latest four-game losing skid is disturbing as the Argonauts have been blown out of the water by a 161-72 combined count. No team has allowed more points and only Montreal and Saskatchewan have scored fewer points than the Argos. That is a bad combination and, despite Gang Green being on the road for a second straight week, we are rolling with the ‘Riders and the pick ‘em (-110) point spread price posted by the bookmakers at the Bodog online sportsbook.

Montreal Alouettes @ Calgary Stampeders CFL 2016 Week 17 Prediction

McMahon Stadium 7:00 PM ET October 15, 2016

Clearly in a league of their own, Calgary (13-1-1) welcomes Montreal (4-10) to the Stampede City to close out CFL Week 17 action. Following a 1-1-1 start to the 2016 CFL season, the Stampeders have stomped everyone in their path as they have won twelve straight contests including six of their last ten games by at least 19 points. The Stamps are back home after ripping Hamilton (36-17) and Toronto (48-20) on the road the last two weeks. Montreal limps into Calgary after a 40-20 home loss to Edmonton last week. Though a longshot at best, the Alouettes are still alive in the East Division playoff hunt. The Al’s have to win their four remaining matches and Hamilton has to lose three of their next four contests but a faint “espérer” still exists. Last week we said Calgary would keep their foot on the gas for at least two more weeks but, after the BC Lions lost, the Stamps have nothing left to play for as they have clinched home field advantage in the West Final. Can Montreal use their “lose one and you are done” playoff situation as motivation to compete in Calgary? What is the Stamps mindset coming into this meaningless game? In the end, we can’t bet against Calgary so we will lay the gaudy -15 (-11) SportsInteraction spread price and side with the Stampeders.

Odds to win the 2019 CFL Grey Cup
It was the Calgary Stampeders' time to silence the doubters. Despite ghosts of Grey Cup's past, the Stamps delivered on the promise as a favourite to win the 2018 Grey Cup. This was their second chip under the Bo Levi Mitchell era and a dynasty they are becoming. But again, history isn't on Calgary's side for a repeat hence why 2018 Grey Cup Odds are almost even. We take a look.

2018 CFL Division Finals Odds
The road to the 2018 CFL Grey Cup continues on Sunday, November 18th with the eastern and western division finals. After a big win over the Lions, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats travel to meet the division-leading Redblacks in Ottawa. Out west, the CFL-best Calgary Stampeders host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, who overcame a 53-year curse to finally win a playoff game in Regina. Sports betting sites show the Stampeders as favorites, but the Blue Bombers resilience make them an attractive underdog to win the west.
