CFL Picks Week 19
CFL Football Games This Week
Ottawa plays their final regular season game and they are desperate for a win at TD Place Stadium to keep their first place hopes alive. Montreal is in Saskatchewan for a 9:30 PM ET kickoff at Mosaic Stadium in the back half of the CFL Friday double-dip. Winnipeg will try to nail down second place (again) when they host British Columbia at 4:00 PM ET on Saturday at Investors Group Field. The Battle of Alberta re-fires at 7:00 PM ET as Calgary rolls up the QE2 to battle bitter rival Edmonton. Toronto will be rooting for Hamilton (how strange is that) as the Argonauts enjoy a Week 19 BYE.
While we know the six playoff teams, and that Calgary owns the top seed, the other five positions are still up for grabs. An Ottawa win would move the Redblacks into first in the East – a loss or tie means they will finish in second behind Toronto who are resting. A Winnipeg win, or Edmonton loss, earns the Blue Bombers second overall and home field advantage in Western Semi-Final. An Edmonton victory coupled with a Saskatchewan loss relegates the Roughriders to the East crossover position and a date with either Toronto or Ottawa in the Eastern Semi-Final on November 12, 2017.
CFL Predictions Today and Week 18 Review
Although it did not start well, after the ‘Riders crushed Calgary 30-7 at McMahon Stadium, we finished with a 3-1-0 SU mark and a juice leaking 2-2-0 ATS record with our Week 18 picks. We were lucky that Winnipeg PK Justin Medlock missed a game ending 39-yard field goal but unlucky when Toronto failed on a pair of post TD 2-point plays. The Argos snuck away with a 29-28 win and we lost our ATS bet by a half point. Speaking of luck, it goes both ways eh, Edmonton scored 22 unanswered points and beat BC 35-29 in OT to gift us winning ATS and SU tickets. We were able to kick back and relax as the Tiger-Cats clawed the Alouettes 43-16 to close out the week.
CSB Money Line & ATS Week 18 Results: 3-1-0 and 2-2-0 Overall: 51-20-1 and 37-34-2
- Hamilton at Ottawa Pick: Redblacks -6 (110) ATS at Bet365
OTR Key To A Cover: Post an early lead at home to deflate the playoff eliminated Cats.
Be Leery of This: Hamilton fighting for a full 60 minutes and earning a late back door cover.
Not masters of their own domain, Ottawa can move one point up on Toronto in the race to claim the East playoff BYE. That would force the Argos to win or tie vs the BC Lions in Vancouver next week. Hamilton is on a 5-3 run and the Tiger-Cats should be able to get up for this rivalry clash in the Nation's Capital. After getting QB Trevor Harris back from injured reserve, Ottawa lost WR Brad Sinopoli (1009 RYD 3 TD) for the season during Week 16. Still, Harris has put up 642 PYD and 5 TD in his last two starts. Bet365 has Ottawa as -6 (-110) ATS chalk and we are backing the Champs.
Final Score: Ottawa Redblacks 41-36
- Montreal at Saskatchewan Pick: Roughriders -16.5 (-110) ATS at SportsInteraction
SASK Key To A Cover: Don't look past Montreal and forward to facing Edmonton.
Be Leery of This: 'Riders reading their press clippings after crushing #1 seed Calgary.
Respectable, even in losses by six to Calgary and a rouge vs the Redblacks, the 'Riders are on a 4-2 run. Saskatchewan has outscored opponents 24-19 since they were whacked 48-28 in Winnipeg back in Week 12. Montreal (3-13) is saddled with a horse collar trifecta, as the Alouettes are last in the standings, points scored (18.9) and points allowed (31.9). The Als have lost nine straight, by a 39-16 margin, and have been mulched 48-17 during their last three matches. Not betting the farm, lay the -16.5 (-110) SIA ATS price as the 'Riders aim to snap a two-game skid at Mosaic Stadium.
Bookies Note: Saskatchewan being -16.5 point chalk makes this the second largest ATS price on any CFL matchup this season. Calgary was -17 home favorites versus Montreal during Week 15 action and the Stampeders stomped the hapless Alouettes 59-11 during that very lopsided affair.
Final Score: Saskatchewan Roughriders 37-12
- British Columbia at Winnipeg Pick: Blue Bombers -6.5 (-110) ATS at William Hill
WPG Key To A Cover: Improve on their 26-20 Week 17 home win over BC ever so slightly.
Be Leery of This: BC Lions playing a carefree, throw caution to the wind, style contest.
Winnipeg hosts playoff eliminated British Columbia during the first half of exciting Saturday action. The Blue Bombers blew a chance to make this a meaningless match after failing to lock down the #2 seed vs Toronto last week. The Lions were erased after giving up a 29-13 lead with just over five minutes left on the clock vs Edmonton. Getting up for a match, right after being punted from the playoffs, especially on the road, is not an easy task. The Lions have showed very little fight lately so we will swallow the -6.5 ATS line at William Hill to soar with the playoff bound Blue Bombers.
Final Score: British Columbia Lions 36-27
- Calgary at Edmonton Pick: Eskimos +3.5 (-110) ATS at Bodog
EDM Key To A Cover: Eskimos sending a message that they are ready for the playoffs.
Be Leery of This: Calgary wanting to prove their 30-7 Week 18 home loss was a one-off.
Winners of four straight vs their provincial rivals, by a 143-92 margin, Calgary heads into Edmonton to re-ignite the Battle of Alberta. With not much more than fine-tuning on their mind, Calgary may want to atone for their loss to the 'Riders last week but they also want to enter the playoffs healthy. Though it didn't seem possible, after a six game losing streak, the Eskimos have won three straight and need two wins plus two Winnipeg losses to secure home field advantage in the Western Final. We like the Esks outright but will gladly take the +3.5 at Bodog for a head start with Edmonton.
Final Score: Edmonton Eskimos 29-20
