CFL Eastern/Western Semi-Final Picks

CFL Eastern/Western Semi-Final Picks

CFL Football Playoff Games This Week

Betting odds on the Semi-Final fights can’t get much closer as top rated Canada Sports Betting CFL bookmakers posted both contests with pretty low lines. After falling 28-13 at home during their final regular season game, Saskatchewan is the West crossover squad and they will battle Ottawa at TD Place Stadium. The Redblacks were relegated to second in the East Division after the Argonauts took care of business in Vancouver. Toronto obliterated the BC Lions 40-13 during their last playoff tune-up and the Argos claimed top spot in the East for the second time (2013) over ten seasons.

Teams headed in opposite directions will meet in the Western Semi-Final as hot-running Edmonton rolls into Investors Group Field to face an injury riddled Winnipeg Crew. Despite missing starting QB Matt Nichols, the Blue Bombers earned home field advantage for this match after they spanked the Stampeders 23-5 during a very frigid fight in Calgary. Edmonton avoided a long trip to the Far East as the Eskimos posted a fifth straight win. Surprised by their long odds on our CFL futures board, we still like the retooled Green & Gold to claim their second CFL Championship in three campaigns.

Canadian Football League Regular Season Review

Better late than never at all - we finally bagged that elusive 8-0 weekly trophy as we went 4-0-0 against the spread and straight up with our Week 20 picks. Fairly content with .544 ATS and .734 S/U regular season winning percentages, we would like another shot at a few of the 20 weeks. That includes 3, 11, 16 and 17, as went 4-12 over 16 games. Those spread pick stumbles caused a nasty -920 unit dent in our bank account. Understanding that they all count - we did navigate to a .619 ATS wining percentage over the other 16 weeks and that mark produced a solid +1260 return.

We produced a money line profit during 15 of 20 segments with Weeks #3 and #16 accounting for -503 of our total -596 ML losses.  Our best week was #20 when we banked 898 units and our worst week was #16 as we dropped 499 units. All said and done, we earned a 340 unit profit on our spread selections and 1727 units with our money line picks. Although we use a separate wallet for futures wagers, we have 500 units invested in the Grey Cup so our current bottom line sits at a green +1,567. We'll take it and enter the playoff party looking to fatten our CFL betting bankroll.

CSB Money Line & ATS Week 20 Results: 4-0-0 and 4-0-0 Overall: 58-21-1 and 43-36-2

East Division Semi-Final Preview and Prediction

  • Saskatchewan at Ottawa Pick: Roughriders ATS +1.5 (-105) + S/U (+130) at Bodog

Kickoff: 1:00 PM ET November 12, 2017 Weather: 4°C 20% Chance of rain showers or flurries

Ottawa "earned" home field advantage for the East Division Semi-Final thanks to a 8-9-1 regular season. That was second behind Toronto (9-9-0) and the same mark the Redblacks finished with prior to their Grey Cup Championship march last season. The Champs had a first round BYE last year but it's spooky that they tied Calgary and had the same record two years in a row. Ottawa closed with a 33-32 road win vs the 'Riders, a BYE, a 41-36 home win vs Hamilton and another BYE. They will either be rusty or rested and ready - rest always helps at this point in the season.

Jekyll & Hyde, from the Coach and quarterbacks on out, Saskatchewan is in Ottawa for this match after finishing with a 10-8 fourth place record in the West. Whether playing to stay healthy, or due to the fact that they faced a hotter team, the Roughriders laid an egg during their 28-13 home loss to Edmonton last week. Chris Jones has methods to this madness, and his hook is short, but Kevin Glenn, Brandon Bridge and short-yardage specialist Vernon Adams all never knowing when they will be thrust into the action is weird in our books. The 'Riders are a postseason Wild Card.

Redblacks vs ‘Riders Quick Hits: Saskatchewan posted a 18-17 Week 15 victory in the Nation's Capital then Ottawa scored a 33-32 win at Mosaic Stadium during Week 17 this season. The ‘Riders swept the home-and-home series last year with 32-30 and 30-29 victories. Saskatchewan has a big edge in defensive turnovers as they recorded 20 INT and 15 FF while Ottawa had 10 INT and 5 FF. The 'Riders were 5-1 in games versus the East - Ottawa was 3-6-1 in matches vs the West Division.

Final Score: Saskatchewan Roughriders 31-20

West Division Semi-Final Preview and Prediction

  • Edmonton at Winnipeg Pick: Eskimos ATS -2.5 (-110) + S/U (-161) at SportsInteraction

Kickoff: 4:30 PM ET November 12, 2017 Weather: No Precipitation -6°C Clear and Sunny

It took three tries but Winnipeg finally locked down second place in the West with a 23-5 victory over Calgary during Week 20. The weather was frightful and so was the action as neither squad scored on offence and the teams posted 376 total combined yards. Injury woes, particularly at QB and WR, stymied the Blue Bombers as they went 2-3 down the homestretch. QB Matt Nichols (calf injury) is expected to play but how long he lasts is a concern while stud WR Darvin Adams (1120 RY 7 TD) is still sidelined. Winnipeg scored on offence in just one of their last four games – seriously.

Jumping out to a 7-0 start, then losing six straight, Edmonton closed with five wins to finish third in the West with a 12-6 record. Late season adds, particularly DB Aaron Grymes and RB C.J. Gables, were keys to the Eskimos turn-around and neither was around during the Esks 33-26 and 28-19 in season losses to Winnipeg. After getting outscored 213-142 during their losing streak, Edmonton won their last five matches by a 164-113 combined count. QB Mike Reilly (5830 PY 30 TD 13 INT) is the West CFL MOP nomination and he is up against Toronto QB and former Eskimo Ricky Ray.

Blue Bombers vs Eskimos Quick Hits: Prior to the swept this season, the Eskimos were 8-1 vs the Bombers dating back to 2013. Edmonton was first in pass yards (5,972) TOP (31:41) rush TDS (20) and least sacks allowed (29). Winnipeg gave up 26 turnovers - Edmonton lost the ball 29 times on offense. The Bombers had 25 INT and 18 FF - the Eskimos struggled to just 15 INT and 12 FF on defense. Edmonton was third with 57 pass knockdowns - Winnipeg was last with 45 battled balls.

Final Score: Edmonton Eskimos 39-32

Odds to win the 2019 CFL Grey Cup
It was the Calgary Stampeders' time to silence the doubters. Despite ghosts of Grey Cup's past, the Stamps delivered on the promise as a favourite to win the 2018 Grey Cup. This was their second chip under the Bo Levi Mitchell era and a dynasty they are becoming. But again, history isn't on Calgary's side for a repeat hence why 2018 Grey Cup Odds are almost even. We take a look.

2018 CFL Division Finals Odds
The road to the 2018 CFL Grey Cup continues on Sunday, November 18th with the eastern and western division finals. After a big win over the Lions, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats travel to meet the division-leading Redblacks in Ottawa. Out west, the CFL-best Calgary Stampeders host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, who overcame a 53-year curse to finally win a playoff game in Regina. Sports betting sites show the Stampeders as favorites, but the Blue Bombers resilience make them an attractive underdog to win the west.
