Washington Capitals vs Toronto Maple Leafs 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs Odds, Picks, Live Score
Washington vs Toronto 2017 NHL Playoff Odds
Meeting for the 132nd time in NHL history, and the fourth time this season, Washington is set to battle Toronto in one of eight 2017 Stanley Cup quarterfinal matches. The Capitals were the best team in the NHL this season while the Maple Leafs fought and clawed to earn their playoff berth. Somewhat surprisingly, these squads are meeting in the second season for the first time ever.
After posting a 55-18-8 regular season record – Washington now owns back-to-back Presidents’ Trophies. Having joined the NHL in 1974, as perennial playoff underachievers, the Capitals are still searching for their first Stanley Cup Championship. From Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom up front, to Braden Holtby between the pipes, Washington is a deep squad that is loaded with talent.
Toronto controlled their own destiny down the stretch but a 1-3-0 end to the season dropped the Maple Leafs from second place and into this matchup against the Caps as a Wild Card squad. A young and talented team, Toronto is making their second playoff appearance in twelve years. That said, the Buds are the biggest underdogs to win a first round series during the 2017 postseason.

Toronto vs Washington 2017 NHL Playoff Series Summary – Capitals Win 4-2
Right sides, wrong lines, OT losses and blown leads were the tale of the tape in this series for us. In the end, you can also add in the pitfall of greed as we should have managed the money line prices better in this series. That said, Washington blew two goals leads twice and a three goal lead once during three of our losses in this Eastern Conference quarterfinal playoff matchup. A 745 unit loss is the final tally for us on this series and that certainly stings. When it comes to Toronto, the Maple Leafs showed a lot of heart and the future is bright in the Center of the Universe. With the best management team in the National Hockey League, that is working with a crop if talented young players, the Buds will be contenders for several years to come. In fact, we will be jumping on their 2018 Stanley Cup futures odds as soon as they are posted at the Bodog online sportsbook.
Toronto vs Washington: Previous NHL 2017 Quarterfinal Playoff Predictions
Maple Leafs @ Capitals Game 1 Prediction – Washington Capitals 3-2 (OT) Final
Preview: Washington won the season series 2-1 as the Caps posted 4-1 and 6-5 (OT) wins while the Leafs won 4-2 at home in November. The Buds 4-1 loss on April 4 snapped a four game winning streak and seemed to send the Leafs into a bit of a tailspin. The Capitals looking to end their long Stanley Cup drought doesn’t help the Leafs cause in this series.
Game 1 Prediction: Washington Capitals -1.5 (+125) 100 Unit Puck Line Bet at Sports Interaction. Washington was 32-7-2 at the Verizon Center this season while Toronto went 19-14-8 on the road. Braden Holtby (42-13-6 GAA 2.07) vs Frederik Anderson (33-16-14) gives the Capitals an advantage in the goaltenders duel tonight. We see the Capitals flying out of the gate against the inexperienced Buds in this contest. As such, we are laying the SportsInteraction -1.5 (+125) puck line with Washington to win Game 1 of this series.
Maple Leafs @ Capitals Game 2 Prediction – Toronto Maple Leafs 4-3 (2OT) Final
Game 1 Recap and Game 2 Preview: A fired up Toronto Crew took the Capitals to OT before a soft goal sunk the Leafs in Washington during Game 1. Like Edmonton, the Buds have to feel like this is one that got away as they were up 2-0 ten minutes into the game. While we can’t imagine the Caps not being able to get up for a playoff game – they should be extra focused on nailing down a Game 2 win. How the young Leafs respond to being “so close and yet so far” remains to be seen. Mike Babcock will have his troops focused here.
Game 2 Prediction: Washington -1.0 (-163) Puck Line 100 Units @ William Hill: Various causes can put motivation or demoralization into motion. Washington isn’t happy about the props Toronto is getting and the Leafs definitely have their attention. Sprouting before our eyes, the young Buds showed they can compete with the Caps. It’s wise to remember that Washington still has an edge in goal, experience and talent level. Plus a rowdy Verizon Center will be ringing off the hook. Washington has a (-240) money line and a -1.0 (-163) alternate puck line. We’ll cut the juice and lay the goal to cruise with the Capitals at William Hill.
Capitals @ Maple Leafs Game 3 Prediction – Toronto Maple Leafs 4-3 (OT)
Game 2 Recap and Game 3 Preview: Showing a ton of heart, Toronto earned a split in Washington as they posted a 4-3 win in double overtime on Saturday. One can argue the Buds deserve to be up 2-0 but this is now a best of five series as the scene shifts to the Air Canada Centre. Unlike Ottawa, Montreal and Edmonton, who earned splits at home, the Buds effort on the road was impressive. Braden Holtby and Frederik Anderson are earning their pay as these teams have posted a combined 182 shots on goal through two games.
Game 3 Prediction: Washington 145 Units (-145) Money Line @ Bet365: It is like déjà vu all over again as the Capitals are underachieving in the playoffs. Painting the town Blue & White – the atmosphere at the ACC will be electric for Game 3. Bet365 bookmakers still have confidence in the DC Crew as Washington is thick road chalk for this contest that’s slated for 7:00 PM ET tonight. The Capitals must know they have a serious battle on their hands and getting out of the District could be just what the doctor ordered. We are sticking with Alex Ovechkin & Crew and backing the Caps with the Bet365 (-145) straight up price.
Capitals @ Maple Leafs Game 4 Prediction – Washington Capitals 5-4 Final
Game 3 Recap and Game 4 Preview: This is getting embarrassing – for yours truly and the Washington Capitals. For a third straight game, the Caps and Toronto Maple Leafs went to extra time and the Buds took a 2-1 series lead with a 4-3 (OT) victory. This was a tough loss to take as Washington was up 3-1 with under five minutes left in the second period. The Leafs tied the game at 3-3 and, after a scoreless third frame, veteran Tyler Bozak potted the winner just 1:37 into overtime. Washington is in a world of trouble if they lose again tonight.
Game 4 Prediction: Washington -1.5 (+195) 100 Unit Puck Line Bet @ Bodog. Making sense of the Capitals play in the playoffs is proving to be a fruitless effort. Loaded with talent and experience – Washington consistently finds a way to lose during second season action. Despite that, the Maple Leafs are big underdogs at home as they are posted with a +1.5 (-235) puck line and a (+135) straight up price at Bodog. Call us gluttons for punishment but we feel the Caps are going to flex their scoring muscles tonight. A solid effort from G Braden Holtby will help Washington make this a best of three Eastern Conference quarterfinal series.
Maple Leafs @ Capitals Game 5 Prediction – Washington Capitals 2-1 (OT) Final
Game 4 Recap and Game 5 Preview: In addition to not being able to get over the hump in the NHL playoffs, add not being able to retain big leads to the list of things Washington doesn’t do well in the postseason. As they did in Game 3, when they were up 3-1 and lost 4-3 in extra time, the Capitals let another big lead slip away – though they did manage to hold on for a 5-4 victory. This one stings even more than our Game 3 loss as Washington was up 4-1 and they were flexing their scoring machine muscles as we anticipated they would.
Game 5 Prediction: Washington -1.5 (+145) 300 Unit ATS Bet @ SportsInteraction. Washington allowed a goal with just 27 seconds left on the game clock to sink our Game 4 ATS bet. Although we are tempted to move away from this series altogether – we will soldier on. With the scene shifting back to the Verizon Center in the District – this is now a “best of three” matchup. Prior to taking their foot off the gas – the Caps performed like a Presidents’ Trophy winning squad in Game 4 and we feel that will carry over into this contest. Load up and wager on Washington with the -1.5 (+145) puck line at SportsInteraction.
Capitals @ Maple Leafs Game 6 Prediction – Washington Capitals 2-1 (OT) Final – PUSH
Game 5 Recap and Game 6 Preview: Right side – Wrong line. That was the case for a second straight game as Washington posted a 2-1 (OT) win vs Toronto in Game 5 of this thrilling Eastern Conference series. Ontario puck betting fans must be somewhat nervous now as the worm may have turned for the final time. While the shots were close in this contest, 28-25 in favour of Washington, the Capitals dictated the play as they out-hit the Maple Leafs by a 34-23 count. The young Buds now face a “do or die” situation.
Game 6 Prediction: Washington -1.0 (+110) 300 Unit Alternate Puck Line Wager @ William Hill: Toronto has more than proved they belong in this series but they are facing a different animal with elimination on line in Game 6. That said, Washington has a history of being unable to put away teams in the postseason. After five straight one-goal games – we are so far behind we think we are in first in this series. Would be nice to salvage something out of this series eh? Call us un-Canadian but we feel the Caps will close out the Leafs and get a couple days of rest before they begin their epic fight with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Lay the -1.0 (+110) alternate puck line at the William Hill sportsbook and back Washington.
Toronto Maple Leafs 2017 Stanley Cup Futures
In control of their own destiny, needing just three of a possible eight points during their final four games, the Leafs stumbled and dropped to fourth in the Atlantic Division. The result is a first round matchup against the Capitals – rather than a Battle of Ontario series vs Ottawa. While we would have given the Buds a great shot at beating the Senators, we simply can’t see Toronto skating past Washington. There is lots of promise in the Center of the Universe but we can’t back the Maple Leafs (+2800) 2017 Stanley Cup futures price.
