Washington vs Toronto 2017 NHL Playoff Odds

My Team's Next MatchToronto Maple Leafs

Meeting for the 132nd time in NHL history, and the fourth time this season, Washington is set to battle Toronto in one of eight 2017 Stanley Cup quarterfinal matches. The Capitals were the best team in the NHL this season while the Maple Leafs fought and clawed to earn their playoff berth. Somewhat surprisingly, these squads are meeting in the second season for the first time ever.

After posting a 55-18-8 regular season record – Washington now owns back-to-back Presidents’ Trophies. Having joined the NHL in 1974, as perennial playoff underachievers, the Capitals are still searching for their first Stanley Cup Championship. From Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom up front, to Braden Holtby between the pipes, Washington is a deep squad that is loaded with talent.

Toronto controlled their own destiny down the stretch but a 1-3-0 end to the season dropped the Maple Leafs from second place and into this matchup against the Caps as a Wild Card squad. A young and talented team, Toronto is making their second playoff appearance in twelve years. That said, the Buds are the biggest underdogs to win a first round series during the 2017 postseason.

Toronto vs Washington 2017 NHL Playoff Series Summary – Capitals Win 4-2

Right sides, wrong lines, OT losses and blown leads were the tale of the tape in this series for us. In the end, you can also add in the pitfall of greed as we should have managed the money line prices better in this series. That said, Washington blew two goals leads twice and a three goal lead once during three of our losses in this Eastern Conference quarterfinal playoff matchup. A 745 unit loss is the final tally for us on this series and that certainly stings. When it comes to Toronto, the Maple Leafs showed a lot of heart and the future is bright in the Center of the Universe. With the best management team in the National Hockey League, that is working with a crop if talented young players, the Buds will be contenders for several years to come. In fact, we will be jumping on their 2018 Stanley Cup futures odds as soon as they are posted at the Bodog online sportsbook.

Toronto Maple Leafs 2017 Stanley Cup Futures

In control of their own destiny, needing just three of a possible eight points during their final four games, the Leafs stumbled and dropped to fourth in the Atlantic Division. The result is a first round matchup against the Capitals – rather than a Battle of Ontario series vs Ottawa. While we would have given the Buds a great shot at beating the Senators, we simply can’t see Toronto skating past Washington. There is lots of promise in the Center of the Universe but we can’t back the Maple Leafs (+2800) 2017 Stanley Cup futures price. Stanley Cup 2019 Odds: Tavares & Toronto Favorites?
Toronto will remember July 1st, 2018 not as Canada Day, but Tavares Day, after the pride of Mississauga was liberated from the New York Islanders. This stunning coup solidifies the Leafs top-line talent for the next half-decade, creating a long window of opportunity for Toronto’s long-suffering franchise. The Maple Leafs odds to win the Stanley Cup in 2019 jumped to +700 after the announcement, better than the Lightning, Bruins and Golden Knights. Toronto’s finally positioned as favorites to win their first ring since 1967, despite questions surrounding their blueline and goaltending.
