Woodley Will Defend Despite Till’s Unstoppable Streak
Tyron Woodley (-110) is a slight underdog as he defends his welterweight title against Till, who is built like a middleweight as the feature fight for the UFC 228 betting odds. The Skouser (-120) must first make weight but if he does, he will have a significant size advantage.
This is Woodley’s fourth title defence and the third time he’s been bet up to an underdog.
|Woodley (C)||VS||Till #2|
Woodley has been one of the UFC’s most maligned champions but he doesn’t deserve the hate. He completed two of the most boring fights against Demian Maia and a rematch against Stephen Thompson but it’s hardly his fault. He fought smart and won the decisions.
Till was also embroiled in a decision against Thompson but before that, he annihilated fan favourite Donald Cerrone in just one round. Like Woodley, Till is also a smart fighter. But he botched his weight cut last fight and if he has another hard time making weight, it could hinder his performance.
Despite the size and youth disadvantage, Woodley has a secret weapon: his wrestling. Till hasn’t fought a high-level wrestler like Woodley. He hasn’t used it in most of his fights, but it could alter Till’s stance and could open him up for Woodley’s explosive power.
UFC 228 Odds: Woodley vs Till Trends & Tidbits
Bettors have consistently been on the challenger. Till opened as an underdog but has gone down at pick’em or favourite odds. The champion is an underdog but this may all change come fight night.
- Woodley opened at -149 and his line has been bet up by 21.5% since
- Till opened at +120 and his line has been bet to down by 28% since
- Main event UFC fighters who opened as favourites are 16-7 in 2018
- Woodley is 4-1 when he opens as a favourite in the UFC
- Fights went to decision in three of the last four fights from either Woodley or Till
Woodley has become more measured as a champion. He will bide his time and allow Till to come to him, countering him whenever he sees an opening. Despite being smaller, Woodley has long arms and has quicker reflexes. He will cut the distance quickly and surprise Till.
Prediction: It will be another tightly fought contest as both fighters will fight a technical match. As the champion, Woodley has the advantage of setting the pace as Till will be on the attack. Woodley will use a combination of takedowns and counter-punching to imbalance Till enough to earn another close decision.
Our Record: 17-9
