Blockbuster British Derbies: Liverpool vs Arsenal & Rangers vs Celtic
It’s going to be another huge weekend in the Premier League. After Liverpool surged to a commanding 6 point lead in the Premier League standings, they now face one of their top-six rivals in a blockbuster at Anfield.
Yet that’s not even the biggest fixture of the day in Britain. Another Old Firm Derby sees Rangers host Celtic, in a game that the home side simply has to win to have any chance of reclaiming the Scottish Premiership.
There’s all to play for this weekend – let’s take a look at each match in more detail.
Rangers vs Celtic
Celtic have walked in the Scottish title with ease in recent years, although as we approach 2019 the race is much closer than most anticipated. While the green and white side of Glasgow are three points clear and have a game in hand, a Rangers win will see them draw level on points, and put the pressure back on Celtic.
But if Celtic can win this match, it would see a potential 9 point gap at the top of the league (assuming they win their match in hand). So the pressure is currently on Rangers, especially at home. The league meetings between these two sides are always worthy of watching, and around 50,000 fans are expected to pack out Ibrox Stadium. There’s also the added bonus of seeing Steven Gerrard and Brendan Rogers go head to head – former Liverpool hero Gerrard is still looking to put one over his former boss.
Despite the home crowd advantage, Rangers start the match as outsiders against their greatest rivals. The best odds we’ve seen for the home side are +290.
But this isn’t surprising considering that Celtic have won 11 of the last 14 matches between the sides, including 7 of 9 in the Scottish Premiership. Rangers have not won against Celtic in the Premiership since March 2012.
If you think Rangers are good enough to get a draw, that result is available for +250.
Celtic have lost three times in the league already this season, so they are not infallible. All three of their losses have come away from home, and interestingly they have only taken 15 points from a possible 30 on the road. They start at evens (-100).
Soccer Preditctions: It’s certainly going to be an interesting clash, but we’re tipping Celtic to extend their dominance over their rivals.

Liverpool vs Arsenal
Liverpool played against Arsenal only weeks ago at the Emirates, and it was a real clash of form teams. In fact, Arsenal were arguably THE form team at the time having put together seven wins and a draw from their previous eight fixtures.
And Arsenal remained unbeaten after the clash, although it took a late equaliser to do the job. The match showed Liverpool’s title credentials, but also showed Arsenal were not going to write off 2018/19 as a ‘transition season’.
But Unai Emery’s men have shown cracks over the festive period. After 14 matches unbeaten, including a big win over rivals Spurs, their run ended away to Southampton. A draw at Brighton also shows that they struggle to find the killer blow that the likes of Liverpool are able to manage.
The Reds conversely are flying high and are now realistically a chance of securing their first title since the Premier League began in the early 1990’s. While many expected Manchester City to surge and Liverpool to flounder, the exact opposite has occurred.
This time it’s clear that Liverpool are the form team coming into this fixture. They have won their last eight matches in the Premier League and are of course still unbeaten.
They have only conceded 7 goals all season, and just 2 at Anfield.
Liverpool understandably start as the clear favourite, priced at -200, while Arsenal are out at +600. The draw is available for +400.
There’s only one choice at the moment. Liverpool are just too strong at home. Go for the Reds.
