Toronto FC vs Colorado MLS Picks

Toronto FC vs Colorado MLS Picks

Toronto FC vs Colorado Rapids

My Team's Next MatchToronto

The high flying Reds of Toronto will be looking to continue their fantastic run when they host a Colorado side that has really struggled to make an impact this season.

This will be the only encounter between the two clubs in 2017, and considering current form it looks like it will be a fairly one-sided affair. Toronto FC enter this fixture off the back of a hard-fought draw against fellow eastern conference challengers New York City FC.

A late penalty for the Reds in this match saw the sides split the points, and Toronto FC will be reasonably pleased with the result as it keeps one of their closest rivals at bay. The team is looking sharp and we could see plenty of goals at BMO this Saturday night.

Meanwhile the Rapids have had a miserable 2017 to date. They are currently in 20th position on the overall MLS ladder and have suffered eleven defeats from eighteen starts this season. While their form has technically improved since their dismal start that featured seven losses from their first ten fixtures, the side has a long way to go if they want to get anything out of this campaign.

Toronto

Toronto FC’s rise to the pinnacle of the MLS has been built around their home form and BMO Field has become somewhat of a fortress in recent seasons. The Reds are undefeated in their nine appearances at the ground in 2017, and have won their last seven straight home fixtures.

Eight of the club’s remaining fourteen matches will be played at home, which gives Toronto FC a great opportunity to take home the Supporter’s Shield for the first time.

The Reds have impressed defensively this season and currently possess the fourth-best record in the MLS in terms of goals conceded. At home, Toronto have conceded just six goals from their nine outings and will be very confident of keeping Colorado scoreless on Saturday. The club has already achieved eight clean sheets in the league in 2017.

Colorado

The Rapids look to have absolutely no chance to win this match on paper. Fortunately, the game is played on grass, however the odds are stacked so heavily against the Colorado outfit that even the most optimistic Rapids fan must be raising a white flag.

The most daunting of statistics is that Colorado are yet to record a single point in an away match this season. They have accumulated seven losses from seven attempts and have scored just two goals in the process. The closest they have been to a road victory came against Philadelphia Union when they opened the scoring early in the first half, only for the home side to score two late goals after Kevin Doyle saw red.

Putting home and away form aside, the Rapids have only managed nineteen goals from their eighteen outings both home and away, and when you’re coming up against one of the best defensive sides in the league, the chances of you scoring a pretty slim.

Complacency is the only thing that can prevent a comfortable Toronto FC victory in this fixture. You could also argue that Colorado will have the advantage of a long rest period – they haven’t played in the MLS since July 4th, whereas the Reds played on Wednesday night.

I actually believe that Toronto will benefit from a short turnaround and will be much sharper on Saturday. I expect a few goals from the home side and another clean sheet. Try your luck with a 3-0 scoreline if you wish to bet on the score market.

MLS Soccer Picks This Week

As always, there are an array of fantastic MLS matches this coming weekend, and Saturday throws up eight big games that will have a huge impact on the league standings.

Results / FixturesMLS

The pick of the matches is undoubtedly Chicago Fire’s trip to Yankee Stadium to face NYCFC. City had a great opportunity to close the gap at the top of the MLS ladder when they took on Toronto FC on Wednesday night, although a late penalty to the away side saw New York snatch a draw from the jaws of victory. This will be their second big opportunity in three days to take on a big side at home and a result will be critical.

Meanwhile Chicago’s stunning turnaround from 2016 continues to amaze and they will travel with plenty of confidence. Their mission will be to take the three points and regain top spot on the MLS table, however they will probably be happy with a point in an away match against a close rival. After their showing on Wednesday, I’m tipping NYC to get the points here, and you can catch all the action from 2:00pm ET.

Saturday will also feature LA Galaxy as they travel to New England to face the Revolution. Both sides have had a poor showing in 2017 and this game presents an opportunity to turn their form around and cling to their faint hopes of a playoff appearance. The Revolution have not been in action since their 3-2 loss to the New York Red Bulls on July 5th, while the Galaxy played out another home loss to Vancouver on Wednesday night.

The Galaxy go into this match as massive outsiders, which is very strange considering they have the best away record in the entire MLS. They are the only team to have picked up five wins on the road, and considering they have played just nine matches away from StubHub Centre, this is a fantastic achievement. They are facing a team who has struggled all season so this could be a goldmine for punters out there. The match starts at 7:30pm ET.

There are fantastic odds available for all MLS games this weekend and you can find them all right here. Don’t forget to head over to Facebook and join in the conversation. Stanley Cup 2019 Odds: Tavares & Toronto Favorites?
Toronto will remember July 1st, 2018 not as Canada Day, but Tavares Day, after the pride of Mississauga was liberated from the New York Islanders. This stunning coup solidifies the Leafs top-line talent for the next half-decade, creating a long window of opportunity for Toronto’s long-suffering franchise. The Maple Leafs odds to win the Stanley Cup in 2019 jumped to +700 after the announcement, better than the Lightning, Bruins and Golden Knights. Toronto’s finally positioned as favorites to win their first ring since 1967, despite questions surrounding their blueline and goaltending.
