MLS Picks: Seattle Mariners vs. Toronto FC
Seattle Sounders vs. Toronto FC odds
Unlike the european football leagues where the winner is the best side over the course of the regular season, the MLS, like all North American sports, is all about the playoffs and the MLS Cup Final. I’m betting that very few remember who had the best regular season record in the MLS in 2016 (and they will be mainly FC Dallas fans!) The heart-stopping final in December last year is what we all remember, and it’s finally time for the rematch.
Seattle won last year’s cup from absolutely nowhere – they finished seventh in the overall standings and momentum carried them all the way to the trophy. Nine weeks into this season we find them, again, absolutely nowhere. The Sounders have a 2-4-2 record and have been slow and steady in their title defence -they come into this fixture having tied three of their last five fixtures. Their sole win during this time came away to the lackluster LA Galaxy, and despite the emphatic nature of their 3-0 win they have been unable to really click consistently this season.
Toronto FC, like the Sounders, made last year’s final with a great run through the playoffs, and although reaching the final was a great result for the ever-improving club, losing at home in the big match hurts. The Reds come into this match on a three-match winning streak and their midweek win over a high flying Orlando side should have them filled with confidence. Sebastian Giovinco is in inspired form at the moment and scored both goals in the 2-1 win.
If the game follows form, you would expect an easy win to Toronto even in spite of being away from home, although Seattle do have the significant advantage of having a full week between matches (TFC played on Wednesday night). The short turn-around for the Reds may be a factor here, and due to the history between these teams it’s likely that the match will be closely fought. I’m going for a draw in this match, have a go at 1-1.DRAW (+275) BET365
MLS Picks Today – May 6, 2017
Saturday throws up a number of enticing fixtures in the MLS. Columbus host New England in a match that really exemplifies how close the Eastern Conference standings are at the moment. Columbus are in fifth place and could rise to third if results go their way, although if the Revolution can take all three points they would jump from ninth on the table to overtake the Crew.
Both teams would probably prefer to be better defensively – the pair has each conceded five goals in their last two matches. New England were at least able to balance out their defensive frailties with five goals to nab draws in their last two outings, but the Crew will be desperate to turn their form around coming off two straight losses. This is a tough one to call but I’m going to go with the Revolution in this match.
