Although they are strangers in second season play, Ottawa and Boston have a long regular season history that dates back to 1992. Overall, the Bruins have the upper hand, as they own a 52-74-8 series record. In the “here and now” however, the Senators have dominated the Bruins with a 10-2-0 record over the past twelve meetings. Ottawa won all four games this season by a 12-6 count.

Above .500 all season, Ottawa posted a 44-28-10 record and claimed second place in the Atlantic Division. The Senators wobbled a bit down the stretch as they went 5-6-4 over their last fourteen matches – a span that included six extra time contests. Ottawa finished the season ninth overall with 2.80 goals for per game but the Sens were a lowly 26th with a 2.95 goals against average.

Boston was on a season long roller-coaster ride that included the firing of the NHL’s then current longest-tenured head coach Claude Julien. Some pundits viewed Julien, who is the bench boss in Montreal again, as a “fall-guy” as the Bruins were 26-23-6 when he was canned. Despite losing their last two games of the year, Boston earned third in the Atlantic with a 44-31-7 overall record.

Boston Bruins vs Ottawa Senators 2017 NHL Playoff Series Summary – Senators Win 4-2

Ottawa has joined the Edmonton Oilers as a Canuck Crew that is still alive in the 2017 NHL Playoffs. Overtime was not kind to us during the final two games of this series as we lost with the Senators two nights ago and then with the Bruins when Ottawa eliminated Boston with a 3-2 OT victory in Game 6. Close contests have been the rule in series involving Canadian squads as 20 of the first 27 matches have been decided by one goal and 13 have gone into OT. We are 4-7-2 in battles that have gone beyond three periods. This series was dented our bankroll as we dropped 590 units – 400 of which we burnt during the last two contests. Battered, but undeterred, we are heading back to our research board and we will cover each game during the Senators vs Rangers Eastern Conference Semifinal series. Ottawa Senators 2017 Stanley Cup Futures

Much like Montreal, Ottawa’s path to the Stanley Cup is fraught with pitfalls. While it won’t be a walk in the park, we can see the Sens getting past the Bruins which would lead to a series against the Rangers or Canadiens. If Ottawa leaps those barriers, a Metropolitan Division powerhouse awaits in the Eastern Conference Final. As with our Senators Stanley Cup preview – we can’t back Ottawa to claim Lord Stanley’s Mug.
