NHL Week 4 Picks, Odds and Live Scores

NHL Week 4 Picks, Odds and Live Scores
Time waits for no Woman, Man or Child and it sure passes quickly eh? Week 4 of the 2016-17 National Hockey League is already upon as we preview a couple of key games on the upcoming slate. First up, we take a look at the Vancouver Canucks vs Montreal Canadiens contest at the Bell Centre in Quebec at 7:30 PM ET on Wednesday, November 2, 2016. We will then keep an eye on the Tampa Bay Lightning vs New Jersey Devils battle that goes at 7:00 PM ET on Saturday, November 5, 2016, at the Amalie Arena in Florida. Our previews below will be followed up on with LIVE odds updates and official predictions on game day.

National Hockey League 2016-17 Week 4 Preview

Three weeks into the National Hockey League season has done little to produce a solid front-runner for the Stanley Cup. In fact, about the only things we know for sure is that the Eastern Conference Carolina Hurricanes and Western Conference Arizona Coyotes are still pretty terrible hockey teams. Other than that, the Wild Card race in the East has ten teams separated by four points while the West Wild Card spread is two points between six squads. Following action on October 30, 2016, Montreal (8-0-1) is riding high as the top team in the NHL – though they were in a similar position last year and then failed to qualify for the postseason party. The Edmonton Oilers (7-2-0) and Pittsburgh Penguins (6-2-1) round out the top three hot teams early in the 2016-17 NHL season.

NHL Week 4 Predictions

New Jersey Devils @ Tampa Bay Lightning – Bet Tampa Bay (-169) SportsInteraction Money Line Odds

My Team's Next MatchTampa Bay Lightning

Amalie Arena – Tampa Bay, Florida, Saturday, November 5, 2016. 7:00 PM ET

Tied with Pittsburgh and Washington, as second favourites to win the Stanley Cup Championship, with a +1000 money line odds at Bodog, Tampa Bay has been up and down as they posted a 5-4-0 record during October. That said, those numbers include an impressive 3-1-1 mark during their first four home games. Due to a scheduling quirk, the Lightning are battling the Devils for final time this season. Tampa recorded a 3-2 home win prior to dropping a 3-1 decision on the road in The Swamp. Perhaps the most boring team in hockey, for decades, New Jersey’s defensive style was on full display en-route to a surprisingly solid 4-2-2 October start. There were some missed chances as the Devils lost a pair of home games to Florida (2-1) and Chicago (3-2) in overtime. New Jersey was a low-end Stanley Cup dog with +5000 preseason odds. The Devils victory on Saturday, plus the Lightning looking burnt out during a 6-1 loss to the Rangers on Sunday, may earn us decent odds on the Bolts. We will update the lines once SportsInteraction lists them on Friday. Stay Tuned!

New Jersey @ Tampa NHL Game Night Update: With under an hour until puck drop, we still have plenty of time to place our Devils vs Lightning wager. In a netminder saw off, Cory Schneider gets the start in goal for New Jersey while Ben Bishop is between the pipes for Tampa Bay. Since we last wrote about these teams, the Devils lost on the road 4-3 in OT against the Florida Panthers. The Lightning crushed the Islanders 6-1 in Brooklyn and then dropped a 4-3 shootout battle at home against Boston. We will take the (-169) money line odds at SportsInteraction and back the Bolts.

Devils vs Lightning Match Summary: Our NHL Week 4 picks went 2-0 after Tampa Bay posted a 4-1 win over New Jersey on Saturday night. The Devils had a strong first period as they outshot the Lightning 12-8 and took a 1-0 lead after twenty minutes. The Bolts had a solid second period as they peppered Cory Schneider with 21 shots and took a 2-1 lead into the third. New Jersey fought back with an 18-6 shot advantage in the final frame but Tampa Bay potted two more goals (on six shots) to post the victory. Stay tuned, as we will post our Week 5 NHL predictions on 07/11/16.

Vancouver Canucks @ Montreal Canadiens: Bet Montreal -1.5 (+140) Bodog Puck Line Odds

My Team's Next MatchMontreal Canadiens

Bell Centre – Montreal, Quebec, Tuesday, November 2, 2016, 7:30 PM ET

Strong out of the starting gate for a second straight season, Montreal went 10-2-0 in October last year, the Canadiens lead the NHL with an 8-0-1 mark and they are the only team that hasn’t lost a match in regulation time. The Habs have been home and resting as they’ve enjoyed three days off following their 2-1 win at home over the Toronto Maple Leafs on October 29, 2016. The Canadiens +17 GF/GA differential is the best mark in the NHL. Vancouver, who entered the season with an NHL worst +6600 Stanley Cup Championship futures price at Bodog, shocked many by opening their season with a 4-0 record. It’s been all downhill from there though as the Canucks have lost five straight by a combined 18-7 count. The ‘Nucks were shutout twice during that skid and they dropped a 5-2 decision at home to the Washington Capitals in their last contest on Saturday night. Both teams just enjoyed three full days off but Montreal is the superior squad in this contest. We like the Habs here and we’ll offer our odds selection once Bodog posts their prices on Tuesday.

Canucks @ Canadiens Game Day Update: Bodog sportsbook bookmakers have now posted prices for the Vancouver vs Montreal matchup. Our opinion on the winner of this contest has not changed as we see the Habs cruising into November with the same vigour they employed to close out October. While they did have time to do some patchwork, we doubt the Canucks were able to plug all the holes during their three days off. Neither of these teams were good coming off three or more days rest last year as Vancouver was 1-1-2 and were outscored 11-6 while Montreal was 1-1-3 by a combined 15-10 count. This Habs team is much better – the ‘Nucks appear to be worse. We will lay the -1.5 (+140) Bodog sportsbook puck line price and hook up with Les Habitants here.

Montreal vs Vancouver Match Summary: Admittedly surprised Vancouver came out so charged up at the Bell Centre, the Canucks had 42 total shots, the rest of the Montreal vs Vancouver contest played out as we figured it would in our forecast. Goaltender Carey Price kept the home side in the game early, as the Habs were outshoot 13-3 in a scoreless first period. Montreal carried a two-goal lead into the third period and then scored an empty net goal for a 3-0 victory. The Canadiens now have a league best 9-0-1 record while the Canucks fall to 4-5-1 early in the 2016-17 NHL season.
