NHL Props Picks – October 21, 2017

NHL Props Picks – October 21, 2017
Saturday night hockey in the NHL features the latest edition of the battle of Ontario, as the Toronto Maple Leafs take the 401 to meet the Ottawa Senators in Canada’s capitol. This matchup looks to be one of the more entertaining, explosive games for prop bets this evening. On the west coast, the Calgary Flames want to extend their four-game winning streak against a Minnesota Wild team that’s started the season slowly due to injury problems.

NHL Player Prop Of The Day

Auston Matthews Loves Playing Against The Senators

Matthews opened his NHL career with four goals against the Ottawa Senators, also notching three assists in four meetings with the Sens during the 2016-17 season.

Matthews started this season on fire, earning goals in five of seven games, including a pair of clutch overtime winners against Chicago and Montreal.

There’s little doubt that Auston’s growing on his incredible rookie season, where he established himself as an elite NHL scorer. When Toronto meets Ottawa, these teams typically score plenty of goals, a trend which should continue on Saturday.

The odds of Matthews scoring a goal are listed at +130, while the moneyline for Matthews earning a point is -155 – both offering solid value for scoring props. Betting on Auston scoring a goal is a bit riskier, but pays off better than wagering on him earning a point.

If you have a reduced appetite for risk, bet on the latter.

NHL Puckline Of The Day

Calgary Flames Welcome Struggling Minnesota Wild

The Minnesota Wild have lost four in a row to the Calgary Flames, including all three of last year’s meetings. Prior to this streak, Minnesota won six in a row as Calgary rebuilt from their post-Iginla era. After Johnny Hockey, Mark Giordano and Sean Monahan took the reins, the Wild started having problems against the Flames.

Calgary will head into tonight’s matchup as slight favorites over Minnesota, despite the Wild’s 1-2-2 record, tied for second worst in the west. The Wild will be without two of their main producers, as Zach Parise, Charlie Coyle, Mikael Granlund and Nino Niederreiter will miss tonight’s game.

Facing an underpowered Wild gives Calgary the chance to improve their home record while keeping up with the top of the Pacific Division. Given the Flames advantage, a +190 on Calgary winning by two or more goals represent great value.

NHL Over/Under Of The Day

High-Powered Leafs And Senators Offense Clash In The Capital

There isn’t a deeper group of attackers in the NHL than the Toronto Maple Leafs.

In fact, Toronto’s one of the few teams which can cobble together four scoring lines on any given night. Mitch Marner, who earned 65 points in his rookie year, currently plays on the fourth line, hinting at the Leafs incredible scoring depth.

The Senators have a rep as a defensive team, which means that many observers underestimate their sneaky counterattack, which is ranked in the top third in the NHL.

After seven games, Ottawa has a healthy 3.43 goals per game.

These teams have scored 6.6 goals per game against each other in their last ten meetings, and tonight’s over/under is six. This season, Toronto matchups have totaled more than six goals in six of seven games, with a shutout against Washington the sole under result.

The over moneyline for a total of six hovers at -125, which is excellent value for a pair of high-powered NHL offenses entering a big Saturday night matchup.
