NHL Picks: Red Wings vs Blackhawks Point Spread
Detroit Red Wings at Chicago Blackhawks
One of the oldest rivalries in sports is reheated when the Red Wings battle the Blackhawks. That said, since Detroit moved to the Eastern Conference, at the start of the 2013-14 season, these teams see a lot less of each other now. Since their epic seven-game Western Conference 2013 semifinal showdown, a series won 4-3 by Chicago, the Hawks and Wings have met just six times and both teams have three wins apiece. The Hawks have earned at least point in five of those six meetings and Chicago won both contests last season 5-2 in the Motor City and 4-1 at home.
Mirror image of Detroit recently, as a model of consistency with eight straight playoff appearances, Chicago opened their season on a roll and they have kept it going during the first half of year. The Hawks have lost two in a row twice and three straight once as their longest losing streaks. On the other side of the coin, Chicago has enjoyed winning streaks of five and seven games. Chicago straddled the break with a 1-4-1 record but the Windy City Crew has won three straight contests.
What goes up – must come down. That’s an analogy Detroit is facing as their run of 25 consecutive playoff appearances is in serious jeopardy. The Red Wings are 17-18-5 and just one point ahead of the New York Islanders in the fight for the Eastern Conference cellar. That puts the Motown Crew nine points out of a Wild Card spot and they trail seven teams in that race. The Wings were hot out of the starting gate, posting a 6-2-0 record, but they are just 11-16-5 over their last 32 matches.
Red Wings at Blackhawks Prediction
BET BLACKHAWKS -1.5 (+155) ATS AT SPORTSINTERACTION (Chicago 4-3 OT Final)
After two days at home, following a west coast trip, Detroit is travelling again as they are playing the second last of a seven-game road trip. The Wings have not played on their home pond since they lost 4-3 to Buffalo back on December 27, 2016. Chicago put their holiday blahs behind them as they have won three in a row at the United Center taking down Buffalo (4-3 OT) Carolina (2-1) and Nashville 5-2 in their last match on Sunday. Corey Crawford (15-8-3 GAA 2.33) vs Petr Mrazek (9-10-3 GAA 3.10) is the netminders matchup tonight. Crawford has won two of his last three starts while Mrazek is on a personal four-game skid and the Wings were outscored 16-7 during those contests. Lay the -1.5 (+155) puck line price at SportsInteraction and back the Blackhawks.
NHL Picks Week 14
On tonight’s seven-game slate we also took a look at the Columbus vs Carolina contest as the Blue Jackets are an NHL fifth best with a 12-3-3 road record. The drawback though is the Hurricanes 12-4-1 mark on their home pond at the PNC Arena in Raleigh, NC. However, we are going to parlay Columbus to win (+105 ML) with an OVER bet on 5.5 (+125) price on the Flyers vs Sabres battle in Buffalo. Looking at the rest of the week, we’ll be checking in on the Penguins, Rangers and Maple Leafs and provide previews and picks on those teams and more as the week progresses.
