NHL Picks & Pucklines Tonight

NHL Picks & Pucklines Tonight
A trio of matchups grace the Friday night schedule for NHL hockey, including the Montreal Canadiens visiting the Washington Capitals in the U.S. Capitol. NHL picks and pucklines for January 19th also include the Golden Knights continuing their Florida road trip against the Panthers, less than a day after Vegas dismantled the Lightning. Los Angeles will look to stem a five-game losing streak when they visit the Ducks in Anaheim.

Will Montreal Upset Metro-Best Capitals?

Visiting the leader of the Metropolitan Division isn’t the best way for the Montreal Canadiens to regain a hold on winning hockey. Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals tend to play well against Montreal over the past couple of years, and the Habs will clash with the Caps without their most valuable skater – Shea Weber.

Montreal’s joined Ottawa and Buffalo in the basement of the eastern conference. The Canadiens are 13 points away from third in the Atlantic Division and 11 points behind the Penguins for the final wild card spot. With less than a half season remaining, Montreal might have already played themselves out of relevancy.

NHL Straight Up Picks & Puckline Predictions

  • Vegas at Florida: Bet Golden Knights SU (-125)
  • Los Angeles at Anaheim: Bet Ducks SU (-165)

NHL Lines: Lighting The Lamp

Canadiens at Capitals – Bet Washington SU (-165)

The Montreal Canadiens have been blown out by the Capitals in two of three consecutive losses, including a 6-1 blast in Washington during early October. Les Habitants dropped six of their last eight against Washington, with a pair of narrow wins in the U.S. Capitol.

Despite a 4-3 defeat against the New Jersey Devils last evening, the Capitals will be considered strong favorites against the fading Canadiens. Montreal’s 2-6-2 over their last ten while Washington’s one of the stronger teams on their own ice. A straight up win looks like a solid bet for the Caps.

Golden Knights at Panthers – Bet Vegas SU (-125)

The Vegas Golden Knights dominated play against the Tampa Bay Lightning last night, whupping the Presidents’ Trophy leaders by a 4-1 final score. Vegas will hop on over to BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida as favorites to defeat the Panthers. Typically, playing on less than 24 hours rest would create a significant impediment to victory, but the Golden Knights have been playing impressive hockey all season. Go ahead and take a relatively solid -125 payout for the best team in the western conference.

Kings at Ducks – Bet Anaheim SU (-165)

The battle of southern California has been relatively even over the past couple of years, with the Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings splitting the last ten meetings. This season, the Kings lead the series 2-1, although their last meeting with the Ducks resulted in a 4-2 victory for Anaheim. Los Angeles hasn’t been the same in 2018, falling out of a wild card spot after a five-game losing streak. Since the Ducks have home advantage and play superior hockey over the past two weeks, select the Ducks straight up money line.

Dirty Dangle Of The Night:

Washington Capitals Beat Puckline Against Montreal Canadiens (-1.5, +180)

Three of the last six Washington wins against the Habs beat the puckline, including two of their last three meetings. Montreal’s also dropped the puckline in six of their last ten games, a symptom of how far the Canadiens have fallen this season. Both factors combine to make the risk of betting on the Capitals puckline worthy. The other reason to select the puckline is a +180 payout, compared to a -165 line for a straight up Washington win.
