NHL Picks: Penguins vs Senators Point Spread

NHL Picks: Penguins vs Senators Point Spread
National Hockey League 2016-17 Week 14 action continues as we preview the Penguins vs Senators point spread and make a pick on this Eastern Conference contest. The Penguins are three points out of first place in the Metropolitan Division while the Senators sit twelve back in the Atlantic Division. This is the 115th meeting between these squads and puck drop is scheduled for 5:00 PM ET on January 12, 2017, at the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, Ontario.

Pittsburgh Penguins at Ottawa Senators

Meeting for the second of three matches this season, Pittsburgh and Ottawa square off after their 8-5 shootout at PPG Paints Arena in the Steel City on December 5, 2016. That was a wild contest as the score was tied 2-2 after one period, 5-4 Pittsburgh after the second frame, before the Penguins outscored the Senators 3-1 in the third to grab the win. Sidney Crosby & Crew were in the midst of a seven-game winning run while Erik Karlson and the Senators were on a 2-4-1 slide at the time.

My Team's Next MatchOttawa Senators

Pittsburgh is playing back-to-back matches after they dropped a 5-2 decision to Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals in Washington last night. That loss snapped five-game winning run during which the Penguins outscored their opponents by a 22-10  count. In addition to their win earlier this season, Pittsburgh also won all three games vs the Senators by a 13-8 margin last year and they posted a puck line cover in each of those battles. Pittsburgh is 2-0-1 during their last three visits to Ottawa.

Ottawa has been streaky during the season’s first half as is evident by a 7-6-3 run during their last 16 games. Following for straight wins, the Senators went into 0-3-1 slump that they snapped out of with a 5-3 victory at Canadian Tire Centre versus the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday. With starting goaltender Craig Anderson on a leave of absence, due to his wife’s ongoing battle with throat cancer, former Montreal backup Mike Condon has made 14 straight starts in net for the Senators.

Penguins at Senators Prediction

BET PITTSBURGH PENGUINS (-155) MONEY LINE AT BODOG (Ottawa 4-1 Final)

These teams used their starter and backup goalies in the first meeting as Marc-Andre Flurry was pulled in favour of Matt Murray after allowing four goals on 16 shots and Condon stepped in for Anderson after he faced 43 shots and let seven slip past him. Murray (13-3-1 GAA 2.18) vs Condon (9-6-3 GAA 2.32) is the goaltending duel in this contest. Pittsburgh is 3-1-3 during the second of two straight games this season while Ottawa is 0-3 coming off of three or more days of rest. We are backing the Penguins with the (-155) money line price posted at the Bodog sportbook.

NHL Picks Week 14

It is a busy night with nine NHL games on the Bodog betting board. In addition to the Sens vs Pens contest, we also looked at the Anaheim at Colorado and Detroit at Dallas matchups. The Ducks (22-13-8) are on a 5-2-3 run and sit tied for first in the Pacific Division, with the San Jose Sharks, while Colorado (13-25-1) is on a 2-8-0 slide and own sole possession of the NHL basement. Following a fantastic 50-23-9 run last year, Dallas is just 17-17-8 at the hallway point of the NHL 2016-17 campaign while Detroit is 17-18-6 their string of 25 straight playoff appearances is in jeopardy of being snapped. As a bonus wager, we will tie Anaheim (-180) and Dallas (-150) together on a two-team money line parlay at Bodog.
