NFL Picks: Lions at Seahawks Point Spread

NFL Picks: Lions at Seahawks Point Spread
Following the Houston Texans vs Oakland Raiders AFC Wild Card round opener, Detroit and Seattle get the NFC playoffs underway to close out Saturday NFL postseason doubleheader action. The Seahawks and Lions are meeting for the first time since Seattle posted a 13-10 home victory during their NFL 2015 Week 4 battle. The NFC West Champs are big favorites over Detroit and this contest is slated for 6:15 PM ET on January 7, 2017 at CenturyLink Field in Washington.

Detroit Lions at Seattle Seahawks

As the second biggest Wild Card Weekend favorite, Pittsburgh is first with a -10 (-110) point spread price over Miami; Seattle comes into this contest as -8 (-105) chalk against Detroit. These teams are virtual strangers as they have met just 13 times since 1976 and the Seahawks own an 8-5 record in this NFL series. During their meeting in Seattle last season, the Seahawks lost three fumbles – one was returned for a 27 yard TD by the Lions – but the Hawks defense held Detroit to just 256 total yards. The Seahawks were 7-1 at home while the Lions posted a 3-5 road record this season.

Led by fifth year starter, QB Russell Wilson, the Seahawks are in the NFL Super Bowl title chase for a fifth straight season. The Hawks posted a 10-9 Wild Card win in Minnesota before falling 31-24 in Carolina to the Panthers during the 2016 postseason. Playing in the weak NFC West, Seattle’s 10-5-1 regular season record was more than enough to win the division as the Rams, 49ers and Cardinals won a combined 13 contests. The Hawks 292 points allowed was the third best mark in the league.

After missing the postseason party from 2000 to 2010, Detroit is playing their third playoff game in six years. The previous two appearances were both as a Wild Card entry as the Lions lost 45-28 to New Orleans and 24-20 to Dallas in 2012 and 2015 NFL playoffs respectively. Since 1958, the Lions are 1-11 in playoff games and the lone win was a 38-6 crushing of the Cowboys way back in 1992. Detroit closed the regular season on a 0-3 slide with losses to the Giants, Cowboys and Packers.

Lions at Seahawks Prediction

BET SEATTLE SEAHAWKS -8 (-105) ATS AT BODOG (Seattle 26-6 Final)

During the last twenty NFC Wild Card games, a line of eight points or more has been posted three times and chalk teams went 2-1 in those contests. Detroit was involved in one those games as they lost 45-28 to the Saints as +11 point pups in New Orleans in 2012. Seattle was a +10 point dog at home and beat New Orleans 41-36 in 2011. As the Bodog futures odds illustrate, neither of these teams are expected to play in Super Bowl LI but one them will advance to the Divisional Playoffs. Although this Seattle playoff team isn’t the same caliber as the Super Bowl XLVIII squad, home field advantage and the better defense has us backing the Hawks -8 (-105) ATS price at Bodog.

NFL Wild Card Games 2017

In addition to the Seahawks vs Lions contest, it’s a busy weekend of football, as three other teams are looking to advance to the Divisional playoffs nest week. The Houston Texans vs Oakland Raiders battle is first out of the blocks at 4:35 PM ET on Saturday. Pittsburgh vs Miami at 1:05 PM ET and Green Bay vs New York at 4:40 PM ET will close out the first round postseason action on Sunday, January 8, 2017. New England and Kansas City are awaiting the AFC Wild Card winners while Dallas and Atlanta are enjoying a first round bye in the NFC. We are covering every game of the 2017 NFL playoffs with previews and predictions so be sure to check back prior to each match.
