NCAA Basketball Championship 2018: Best Odds, Predictions

NCAA Basketball Championship 2018: Best Odds, Predictions
All good things must come to an end and such is the case with NCAAB March Madness. After 68 hopefuls earned berths in the tournament field, back on March 13, Villanova and Michigan remain. The #1 Wildcats and #3 Wolverines meet for all the marbles on April 2, 2018, at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. Villanova is thick chalk to win this National Championship contest.

NCAA Championship Game Odds 2018

Dating back to 1985, it is somewhat surprising that this is just the second time a #1 has faced a #3 during the NCAAB National Championship match. That contest is ancient (1990) as HC Jerry “The Shark” Tarkanian led #1 University of Las Vegas Runnin’ Rebels to a 103-73 blowout win over #3 Duke. The Blue Devils were reaching their peak as Duke won the next two tournaments. Villanova is representing 32 former #1 title game squads who are sporting a 20-12 tournament Final record. Michigan is the tenth #3 seed (4-5) to advance to the seventh and final stage of March Madness.

Villanova is looking to cut down the nets for the second time in three years as the #1 Wildcats snuck past #1 North Carolina in 2016. The Tar Heels rebounded and claimed the 2017 National Championship. Including HC Jay Wright, who is in his 17th season, many 2015-16 players will be active in this contest. That includes the Wildcats top three scorers Jalen Brunson (19.2) Mikal Bridges (17.6) Donte DiVincenzo (13.0) plus Phil Booth who sixth in scoring averaging 10.3 PPG. Villanova, who the Championship way back in 1985, is red-hot as they have won ten straight.

Michigan, winners of 14 straight, is back on the US College Basket ball center stage for the first time since they lost 82-76 to Louisville in 2013. The Cardinals vacated the title but the Wolverines didn’t get it. Michigan last cut down the nets in 1989 as they won an 80-79 OT thriller vs the Seton Hall Pirates. No current Wolverines have been this far as they are lead by Juniors Moritz Wagner (14.6) and Charles Matthews (13.1) along with Seniors Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman (12.6) and Duncan Robinson who pots 9.5 PPG. Containing the Cats offence is a must for the Maize & Blue.

Villanova vs Michigan Point Spread

Opening and sticking as thick chalk, Villanova is posted as -6.5 (-110) point spread favorites for the National Championship tussle in Texas. Although they are going up against the best defense in the tournament, Michigan has allowed just 58.6 points per game, the Wildcats winning their first five game by an 18-point average pushed this line up. At first glance, that price seems a little high.

Wildcats vs Wolverines Moneyline

There is a huge gap in the SportsInteraction money line as the Wildcats (-310) tickets cost $310 to win $100 while Wolverines (+250) backers are getting a $250 return on every $100 invested. It is difficult to argue against those numbers as Villanova was 18 of 40 from beyond the arc and 18-25 from 2-point land as the Cats crushed a decent Kansas Jayhawks Crew 95-79 in the Final Four.

Michigan vs Villanova Over/Under

Red hot on offense, and decent on defense, Villanova contests averaged 151.8 points per game. Up and down on offense, though rock solid on defense, Michigan matches averaged 128.8 points per game. SIA bookmakers have set the Over/Under at 145 (-110) and just two (’13 and ’16) of the last eight title matches have exceeded that total. We can’t see Michigan imploding on defense here.

NCAAB National Championship Game Prediction

Born and raised a Michigan sports fan, yours truly is conflicted here. On the one hand it would be fantastic to see HC John Beilein cut down the nets during his eleventh season as the Wolverines bench boss. On the other hand, betting with your heart is always fraught with danger and should be avoided at all costs. Feeling Michigan keeps it close, and the score stays low, we are backing Villanova with ten-units on the -3.5 (-230) alternate spread price posted at SportsInteraction.

Final Score: Villanova Wildcats 79-62

Back Villanova Wildcats SIA Alternate Odds -3.5 (-230) ATS
