MLB Predictions: Toronto Blue Jays vs Tampa Bay Rays
TB Rays at Blue Jays MLB Odds
After losing both games of their double-header with St. Louis yesterday, the Toronto Blue Jays (6-16) travel back to Rogers Centre to defend their turf against the visiting Rays (11-12). Luckily for the Jays, the Rays haven’t been playing too convincingly themselves, and this could be a good opportunity to get revenge for losing 3 of 4 in Tampa Bay earlier in the season.
The Tampa Bay Rays rested Thursday, so are coming into the game a lot fresher than Toronto, who had 2 games yesterday. This is the start of an unforgiving schedule for them though, where they play 33 games in 34 days.
Tampa hasn’t been playing solidly though, going losing a series in Baltimore they probably should have done better with, including a heartbreaking 11th inning loss on Wednesday. Tim Beckham has been playing great though, and looks to extend a 7 game hitting streak.
Toronto’s coming off a disappointing double-header loss to the Cardinals on Thursday. Closer Roberto Osuna blew his 3rd save in 4 attempts in the early game. They were up 4-0 in that game, but gave up the lead in the 9th with 2 outs, and then paid for it with a Matt Carpenter grand slam in the 11th. They lost the night game 6-4, and still hold onto the worse record in the league.
Left hander Blake Snell (0-2, 3.38 ERA), looking for his first win, takes the mound for Tampa. He’s been generally pitching great, holding opponents to a .192 average, but lost to Toronto back on April 6th because of a Kendrys Morales grand slam. Snell’s only had 3 career starts against the AL East rivals, and is 1-2, with a 4.40 ERA against them. In his sole start in Toronto, he only lasted 1.2 innings, so looks to improve on that.
The Blue Jays are countering with right hander Marcus Stroman (2-2, 3.10 ERA). He’s had 8 career starts against Tampa Bay, one of which was April 6th, where he got a win, coincidentally giving Snell the loss. That being said, Stroman’s only 4-4, with a 4.41 ERA against this team. Evan Longoria is 9 for 24 against him, but the right hander’s been playing pretty well recently, pitching a complete game in 2 of his last 3 times out, resulting in a win and a loss.Tampa Bay Rays (+115) SportsInteraction
MLB Picks Today – April 28, 2017
So what’s the best way to pick a winner for this game? The price seems to be on point for both teams, but Toronto’s a bit overpriced because of home field. Sure, Tampa Bay’s got a terrible road record (2-8), but the Blue Birds have an almost equally terrible home record (2-7). If Snell can pitch an at least mediocre game, Tampa Bay has a great chance to win this.
Don’t forget, the Jays are only 1-4 in their last 5 of Stroman’s starts at home, and they’re also 0-4 in their last 4 against a left handed starting pitcher. Snell’s actually not that good on the road, but with Toronto’s current offensive struggles, it shouldn’t be a a problem. Toronto has the worst record in the league, and that says a lot because we aren’t a week in anymore. Take the Tampa Bay Rays at +115 at Sports Interaction.
