The Toronto Blue Jays (7-17) attempt to record their first series win of the season on Sunday. After a terrible start to the season, the Jays are last in the AL East, far from even encroaching on the 4th place Rays (12-13). Game 3 of this series could decide the direction of each of these teams.

The Tampa Bay Rays were less impressive in Saturday’s game than their come from behind 7-4 win on Friday, losing this one 4-1. They went 1 for 9 with RISP, leaving 10 men on base, but Corey Dickerson continued to have an impact. In his last 8 games, he’s 12 for 32, with 3 home runs. Right fielder Steven Souza Jr. is listed as day to day after being injured on Saturday.

The Blue Jays look to seize the day and get their first series win of the year and turn their season around. Justin Smoak certain seems to be turning things around, as he broke a 1 for 11 drought with a 2 run home run in Saturday’s win.

Right hander Chris Archer (2-1, 3.94 ERA) starts for the Rays. In his last start on Monday against the Orioles, he allowed 3 home runs in just the 6th and 7th innings, in a 6-3 loss. They were the first ones he gave up all season. He’s had experience with the Blue Birds though, going 6-4, with a 3.17 ERA in 20 starts against them. With only 9 starts at the Rogers Centre, he’s still 3-2, with a 3.23 ERA. In his last 6 starts, he’s only given up 2 or less runs against them. The same holds true in his last 11 of 12 against them. Kendrys Moreales is a stunning 11 for 19 against him.

The Blue Jays counter with Aaron Sanchez (0-1, 4.38 ERA). His last game was on April 14, in a loss to Baltimore, in which he gave up 5 runs (3 homers) in 5.1 innings. He did lead the league last season with a 3.00 ERA, which accompanied his amazing 15-2 record. He took a hard knock no decision in his season debut against the Rays, pitching 7 innings of one run ball. Last year, he went 1-0, with a 0.64 ERA against the Rays.

Tampa Bay Rays (-110) SportsInteraction

MLB Picks Today – April 30, 2017

The Rays opened on the market as small dogs, but are now almost even, and with good reason. Sanchez is back, but there’s no telling how his injury could affect his performance. We know Chris Archer’s experience against the Jays, and know what to expect. As discussed above, Sanchez has great numbers against Tampa Bay, but we just don’t know enough of what to expect yet.

The Blue Jays have almost nothing favoring them other than home field advantage, which is basically non-existant for them at this point. It’s best to get this line before it continues moving towards the Rays. Take the Tampa Bay Rays at -110 at Sports Interaction
