Toronto Blue Jays vs Texas Rangers

My Team's Next MatchToronto Blue Jays

The Toronto Blue Jays (21-26) host the faltering Rangers (24-24) for the first game in a 3 game series on Friday. There’s sure to be fireworks as these teams have had some bad blood in recent history, with the Blue Jays eliminating the Rangers in the ALDS the last 2 seasons. And who can forget Rougned Odor’s haymaker to Jose Bautista’s face?

Things are looking up for the Blue Birds this game though, as they are returning from a successful road trip, going 4-3. But more significant is the return of 3B Josh Donaldson and SS Troy Tulowitzki, who have been out since April 13 and 21st respectively. The team is 15-9 in their last 24 anyway though. Could their return bring that much of an impact?

Jose Bautista has found his groove, batting .382 with 6 home runs, 14 RBIs, and a 1.274 OPS in his last 16 games. Devon Travis has also been stepping up, and is currently on a 9 game hitting streak, batting a stunning .459 with 2 home runs, and 8 doubles during his streak.

The Texas Rangers started off the season badly, but had a 10 game winning streak during mid-May. They have only gone 1-4 since though, and after getting swept in Boston, are now 5-16 in their last 21 on the road. They had an awful last meeting in Beantown, striking out 20 times on Thursday, which was an MLB record for a 9 inning game.

TEXAS RANGERS (+135) SportsInteraction

A.J. Griffin (4-1, 5.02 ERA) gets the start for the Rangers, but it will be interesting to see if he brings his A-Game. He’s done well in his first 6 starts, but that came crashing down in Detroit last Saturday, allowing 9 runs and 4 home runs in only 3.1 innings. His first 4 starts merited him a 4-0 record with a 1.38 ERA, but he regressed to the mean in his last 2, going 0-1 with a 14.05 ERA.

Against the Blue Jays though, he’s had some skill, going 2-0 with a 2.39 ERA and 1.06 WHIP in 5 starts against them, and a 1-0 record, with a 1.53 ERA in 3 starts at Toronto.

Toronto puts out a fresh face against the Rangers: Mike Bolsinger (0-2, 6.32 ERA). The right hander has never faced Texas, and hasn’t earned a win in over a year. In his last start, he got a no decision after allowing 4 runs in 5.1 innings. While having not faced Texas, he has faced Jonathan Lucroy, who might cause problems for him, as he’s 3 for 7 with a home run against Bolsinger.

MLB Picks And Parlays Today

Trends might favor the Blue Jays here, as the Rangers are 0-4 in their last 4 in Toronto, and 2-7 in their last 9 against the Jays. Texas is also in a rut now, sliding down from their high. However, there are a few great long term trends which favor Texas.

They are 31-15 in their last 46 after scoring 2 runs or fewer in their last game, and are 21-7 in Griffin’s last 28 starts. The Rangers are also 5-1 in Griffin’s last 6 road starts.

With the seeming return of Donaldson and Tulowitzki, the line has shot up, with lots of money coming in on Toronto. The public is assuming if the Jays are playing well without the duo, then they must naturally play much better with them.

On the contrary, we’ll need to wait a few games for them to get back into the groove, and mesh with the team again. It is too early to to make a play on Toronto, especially after the line move. The value is on Texas. Take the Texas Rangers at +135 at Sports Interaction.

Stanley Cup 2019 Odds: Tavares & Toronto Favorites?
Toronto will remember July 1st, 2018 not as Canada Day, but Tavares Day, after the pride of Mississauga was liberated from the New York Islanders. This stunning coup solidifies the Leafs top-line talent for the next half-decade, creating a long window of opportunity for Toronto’s long-suffering franchise. The Maple Leafs odds to win the Stanley Cup in 2019 jumped to +700 after the announcement, better than the Lightning, Bruins and Golden Knights. Toronto’s finally positioned as favorites to win their first ring since 1967, despite questions surrounding their blueline and goaltending.
