Toronto Blue Jays vs Cleveland Indians
My Team's Next MatchToronto Blue Jays
After getting shut out on Tuesday, the Toronto Blue Jays (12-21) face off against the Indians (18-14) in the rubber match of the series. Sitting at the bottom of the AL East, the Jays need to recover whatever minimal offense they had recently if they want to climb up fast enough to be contenders.
While they were shut out at home 6-0 on Tuesday, the Blue Jays can take this series Wednesday night, and successfully win 2 in a row. They’ve only won 2 all season so far. With a 5-9 record at home, it’s safe to say the Jays need more than luck to dig out of the AL East basement.
With Troy Tulowitzski and Josh Donaldson still out though, that’s easier said than done. To add insult to injury (or injury to injury), Russell Martin was placed on the DL on Monday, and Kendrys Morales exited Tuesday’s game with a hamstring injury.
The Cleveland Indians are faring much better, but that isn’t saying much. Their offense has been struggling as well, failing to score more than 3 runs in 7 straight outings. Until yesterday that is. Edwin Encarnacion returned to Toronto with a bang, and former Jay Yan Gomes made his mark with a 3 run home run in the 8th inning.TORONTO BLUE JAYS +1.5 (-125) SportsInteraction
The Indians start Danny Salazar (2-3, 4.28 ERA), who struggled in his last game against the Royals on Friday. He allowed 2 runs on 8 hits in 4.2 innings, and threw 98 pitches in that short span. The right hander has allowed 3 home runs in his last 2 games, but didn’t allow any in his 3 starts prior.
The 27-year-old ranks 3rd in the American League with 49 strikeouts, and has a league best 13 strikeouts per 9 innings. He’s has 3 starts against Toronto, going 2-1 with a 2.65 ERA with 20 strikeouts. This will be the first time he faces them since 2015.
Toronto counters with Francisco Liriano (2-2, 4.44). He also didn’t have a great last outing against Tampa Bay, giving up 5 hits, a season high 5 walks, and 3 runs, 2 of which were homers. He only garnered a no-decision for that outing.
The left hander has a lot of experience against the Tribe, with 19 appearances against them, 14 of which were starts. He is 5-6, with a 3.54 ERA in those outings. At Rogers Centre though, he is dominant, with a 2-1 record, and 1.59 ERA.
MLB Picks And Parlays Today
Cleveland comes into this game as road favorites, but there’s really no reason for them to be priced so high. Apart from yesterday, both teams have been struggling offensively, and Danny Salazar isn’t that scary on the road. In fact, in his last 4 away games in May, he’s 0-4. He also has a non-impressive 4.74 ERA and 1.78 WHIP on the road this season.
We mentioned Francisco Liriano’s home record this season, and that should be enough to get you on him. He should have a bit more run support today. His WHIP is 1.18 at Rogers Centre, and is 4-1 in his last 5 home starts against the Indians. The Jays are 5-2 in his last 7 home starts.
It’s not sure if the Jays offense will click today though, so until Donaldson and Tulowitzki return, he need to take the insurance run at +1.5. There is still value in the play, as the Jays hit well off right handers at home. Take the Toronto Blue Jays +1.5 at -125 at Sports Interaction.
