The MLB Wild Card games are a thrill ride. It’s a do or die, go big or go home attitude that allows the players to show you what they’re made of. The team that is better at handling the pressure is the one who comes out on top. In the American league, we have the Baltimore Orioles visiting the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday at 8 PM. In the National League, we have the San Francisco Giants visiting the New York Mets on Wednesday at 8 PM.

American League Wild Card Game

My Team's Next MatchToronto Blue Jays

OUR PICK: BET Blue Jays -145 | BetOnline.com

The Starter for the Blue Jays is Marcus Stroman(9-10). The Orioles are countering with Chris Tillman (16-6). As of late, Tillman has struggled, averaging less than 5 innings per game in his last 7 starts and is 2-3. Stroman has pitched decently, posting a 3.41 ERA in September and only allowing 33 hits in 37 innings. With home field advantage and their stellar offence, we recommend taking the Blue Jays. The Orioles’ starting pitching has not been as strong as the Blue Jays’ this year, nor has the Orioles’ offence been as strong as the Blue Jays. The one area where the Orioles have the upper hand is the bullpen. They have one of the best bullpens in the league, whereas the Jays bullpen has struggled for about a month now. If the Jays are to win, they have to come out strong and get runs early in the game. If they leave it to the final few innings they won’t have as good of a chance to get runs against the Orioles bullpen.

Last week, the Jays and Orioles completed a 3 game series, with the Jays winning 1 game, which was the first game. Both Tillman and Stroman faced the opposing team last week. Stroman took the loss in a 4-0 game, giving up 9 hits over 7 innings. In that game, the winning pitcher was Ubaldo Jimenez who only gave up 1 hit over 6.2 innings. Chris Tillman appeared to struggle early in his start, unable to find the strike zone and walked 3 batters, but ultimately the Orioles won the game and Tillman left the game with no decision. The Blue Jays had a rollercoaster of a September, going 11-16. The Blue Jays bullpen was uncharacteristically unreliable, blowing 5 save opportunities. Jason Grilli, the Blue Jays 8th inning man, went 0/2 in save opportunities, held an ERA of 9.35, and gave up 4 homeruns over 8.2 innings pitched in September. Roberto Osuna, the Blue Jays closer, blew 2 saves and held an ERA of 4.15 in September. He also has 1 blown save so far this October. With no signs of bullpen improvement, the Blue Jays will need to do damage against Chris Tillman early and will need Marcus Stroman to go deep into the ball game with a substantial lead in order to have a good chance of winning.

National League Wild Card Game

My Team's Next MatchNew York Mets

OUR PICK: BET Mets -108 | BetOnline.com

This game looks to be a low scoring affair, as both teams are sending out exceptional pitchers, with the Giants sending out Madison Bumgarner(15-9), and the Mets sending out Noah Syndergaard (14-9). Syndergaard finished the season 3rd in the Majors with a stingy 2.60 ERA for the season followed by Bumgarner who was 4th in ERA with 2.74. Both pitchers have faced their opposition twice this season, the Mets are 1-1 with Syndergaard on the mound, and the Giants are 2-0 this season with Bumgarner on the mound.

The Mets have had the best winning percentage since August 20th in the Major league, posting a nice 27-12 record. On top of that, the Mets have home field advantage. Neither team has an absolutely outstanding offence.Between the 2 teams, nobody had over 86 RBIs (Yoenis Cespedes, Mets) or more than 31 homeruns (Cespedes). In fact, the Giants only had 1 player with more than 15 home runs, which was Brendon Belt with 17. With these factors, it looks as though the Mets have the slight edge on the Giants.

2015 MLB Wild Card Highlights

Last year’s Wild Card games were action packed and full of great baseball. The AL Wild Card Matchup saw the Houston Astros beating the Yankees 3-0 in New York, allowing on 3 hits. Colby Rasmus and Carlos Gomez hit homeruns for the Astros. Dallas Keuchel was the winning pitcher and Luke Gregerson closed the game and earned a save. The NL Wild Card game had the Chicago Cubs beating the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-0. Jake Arrieta pitched a complete game shutout, allowing only 5 hits and striking out 11. Dexter Fowler and Kyle Schwarber contributed offensively with homeruns.
