Who doesn't love a good 7-furlong slugfest between topnotch horses? That's exactly what the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint provides in addition to returning some generous prices such as 2017 winner Bar of Gold's $135.40 payout for every $2 wagered. I'm not sure we can catch that kind of lightening in a bottle this year, but the future bets do look juicy.
MLB Picks Of The Day – September 30
Can the Cardinals squeeze into a Wild Card spot over the Mets or Giants? Can the Tigers or Mariners crack the AL Wild Card over the Orioles or Blue Jay’s? More great baseball still to come this weekend.
MLB Picks For Today
Orioles @ Yankees Prediction
With Yovani Gallardo having only 1 win in his last 8 starts, look for the New York Yankees bats to come alive. His last start verses the Yankees did not go so well, allowing 7 earned runs on 6 hits over 1.1 innings on August 26th at Yankee Stadium. As long as the Yankee’s have most of their regulars in the lineup, they should be able to take down Orioles.
Marlins @ Nationals Prediction
The Washington Nationals have a chance to clinch home field advantage tonight against the Marlins, as long as The Nats win and the San Francisco Giants defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers. Neither the Nats nor the Marlins are sending out a hot pitcher tonight (Andrew Cashner 5-11 VS A.J Cole 1-2), with both pitchers having an ERA over 5. It is possible that Bryce Harper could be returning to the Nats lineup tonight which would be a huge lift. Look for the Nationals to win this game, in what could be a high scoring affair.
Mets @ Phillies Prediction
This is the final series of the season for both of these ball clubs. The Mets have not yet clinched the Wild Card spot, with the Giants only 1 game back. Mets starter Robert Gsellman only has 6 career big league starts, his frist being on August 28th against the Phillies and ended up taking the loss, although he only allowed 1 run over the first 6 innings, then allowing 3 more in the 7th. The Mets only managed 1 run that game, so no help to the Gsellman. As long as the Mets can get some runs tonight against Alec Asher (2-0), they should be able to win this one, in what could be a tight, low scoring ball game.
Reds @ Cubs Prediction
The Chicago Cubs have already clinched the NL Central division and will be sending Jake Buchanan (0-0) to the mound for only his 3rd MLB start. Buchanan does not have a start this season, and only appeared in 1 game this season, allowing a Homerun over 1 inning pitched. Joey Votto is wrapping up a stellar season, looking to hit over .400 during the 2nd half of the season, so look for Joey to be putting the bat on the ball. On another note, Patrick Kivlehan is expected to be joining the Reds tonight, who has 4 hits in 16 AB’s in his career, including 1 homerun. Despite difference in these teams records, there is a decent possibility the Reds can come out on top tonight.
Blue Jays @ Red Sox Prediction
The Boston Red Sox have already clinched the AL East, while the Blue Jays are tied for first in the Wild Card standings with the Orioles. The Red Sox are sending Rick Porcello (22-4) to the mound who is looking to wrap up his season and looking to solidify his Cy Young candidacy. The Jays are sending out Marco Estrada (9-9) who has been hot as of late, having pitched 7.0 innings in each of his last 2 starts and giving up 1 run and 5 hits between those 2 starts. Jose Bautista has hit .385 with 3 homeruns over 26 ABs against Porcello and Encarnacion has 3 homeruns and 9 RBI’s against Porcello, with a .355 batting average. Look for this to be a low scoring affair, with the long ball being a factor, and they Jays big bats doing some damage.
Tigers @ Braves Prediction
The Detroit Tigers are only 1.5 games behind the Blue Jays and Orioles for the AL Wild Card spot, while the Atlanta Braves don’t have a chance to make the post season. so look for them to come out swinging. They’re facing 24 year old RHP Matt Wisler (7-12) who has an ERA of 5.63 this September. Only 1 Tiger batter has ever faced Wisler, and that’s Justin Upton who is 0 for 1 against him. Look for the Tigers to be taking the first pitch of their ABs, then swinging once they have seen Wislers’ stuff. A lot of the time it takes a batter a few ABs to figure out a young pitcher, so look for the Tigers to progressively widen the lead as the game goes on.
Rays @ Rangers Prediction
The Texas Rangers are looking to lock down home field advantage during this final series of the regular season. They are facing a dismal Tampa Bay lineup, with very few bright moments during this season. Yu Darvish (6-5) will be facing off against Matt Andriese (8-7). No Rays have had much success against Darvish in their careers. Alexei Ramirez boasts the highest average against him at .222 over 9 ABs. Texas batters have seen some success against Andriese, many batting over .300 against him, although none have had more than 5 ABs against him. Look for Rangers to take this game easily.
