MLB Picks and Parlays July 8

MLB Picks and Parlays July 8
It's time for some Saturday MLB action and things are heating up as we enter the halfway point of the season! As always, we'll be looking at three games: the Astros at Toronto, Atlanta looking to bounce back against the Nats, and the Marlins and Giants. Picks and a parlay inside, so join us for our last write-up before the All-Star break! First pitch is at 1:05pm ET.

MLB Baseball Games Today

Good Saturday to everyone out there! As we enter the break, it could be easy to miss the value on today’s card, but we’ve got you covered. Speaking of the break though, this halfway mark should be a good opportunity to look back on teams that have been bad for bettors vs. bad for the books. As we’ve mentioned before, the NL West has been resurgent, with the Rockies, Dodgers, and Diamondbacks being 3 of the top 5 moneymaking teams so far.

Unprofitable teams might seem obvious, but the World Series Champion Cubs along with the Indians as runners-up are 2 of the top 5 worst moneymaking teams in this first half of the season, right there alongside the Giants and Phillies. Your Toronto Blue Jays aren’t having that much success either, which is why we went against them to start off the season, and have laid off their games in recent weeks.

Our picks on July 4th could have been better, as we went 1-2. The Indians have the worst home ROI in the league, but we took a shot on them and got burned by the Padres. They had tons of chances, but just left too many men on base. We won with our seeming contrarian play on Homer Bailey and the Reds as a mid-sized dog, but we’ll have to do better going forward.

This Saturday, we’ll be looking at the Astros looking to win again against the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre, the Braves hoping to get revenge for a late loss to the Nats on Friday, and the Giants looking to get their offense off the ground at home against the visiting Marlins. Let’s get into it!

MLB Picks Today – July 8, 2017

Coming off a dominant win Friday night, the Houston Astros will try to get yet another road win and get to the 60 win mark before the All-Star break. The Blue Jays, while previously close to the .500 mark, have faltered and will go into the break as last in the AL East.

Mike Fiers (5-3, 3.80 ERA) has been on “fires” for the Astros this season. He’s 4-0 on the road and looks to improve that on Sunday. Not only that, but Houston is 9-2 in Fiers’ last 11 starts. He shut out the Yankees in his last outing, but he’s run into some trouble in Toronto before, only lasting 4.2 innings and giving up 5 runs.

The Blue Jays start Marcus Stroman (8-5, 3.42 ERA). The right hander has been money at home, and boasts a 2.87 ERA at Rogers Centre in 9 home starts. Stroman’s faced the Astros earlier in the season, only allowing 1 run and struck out 13.

The Astros haven’t done very well against Toronto recently, goign 3-9 in their last 12, but look for them to keep up the offense and ruin the Jay’s day. Getting the ‘Stros at plus money against a very shaky Toronto team is worth it.

The Atlanta Braves are looking for revenge after closer Jim Johnson blew the game yesterday, and allowed the Nationals to come back in the 9th and take the game in the 10th inning, much to the chagrin of Atlanta bettors.

Julio Teheran (6-6, 5.14 ERA) looks to get his first win in 4 games on Saturday. The right hander’s been fairly average against the Nats, with a 4-4 record and 4.42 ERA in 16 starts. Opposing him is Stephen Strasburg (9-2, 3.28 ERA), who is 10-8 with a 3.95 ERA against the Braves.

Atlanta hasn’t been playing badly recently, and really should be up in this series. Look for both Teheran and Strasburg to either play up or down to each other, leading this to be a very close game. Because of that, we’ll take the underdog in this NL East clash. If you want some insurance, you could take the Braves on the RL, because they might easily lose by 1.

  • Miami Marlins at San Francisco Giants: *Giants (-160) at BODOG

The San Francisco Giants as large underdogs might seem like a sucker play, but with the Marlins’ starter going, the Giants should take this home game, and avenge getting almost shut out on Friday night, as the Fish put up 9 runs.

Chris O’Grady gets the call from Triple-A New Orleans, and replaces Jeff Locke for Miami. It’s best to lay off call-up pitchers making their debut, but those usually have a good record. O’Grady is only 3-5 in 9 games in Triple-A and should get shelled today.

Jeff Samardzija (4-9, 5.54 ERA) starts for the Giants, and has actaually been playing quite well recently, despite his record. The 32 year old has thrown a 38/2 strikeout to walk ratio in his last 6 games. He’s also 5-1 with a 3.43 ERA against the Fish. This should be a spot for the Giants to take it and improve their terrible record before the break.

As usual, we’ll be placing our picks into a parlay. For the sake of a better chance, we’ll be making our Atlanta play a play on the RL. We still have 2 juicy plus money lines in there for greater value. These prices were taken from Sports Interaction!

  • Houston Astros (+120)
  • Atlanta Braves +1.5 (+110)
  • San Francisco Giants (-160)
