MLB Picks and Parlays July 1

MLB Picks and Parlays July 1
Happy Canada Day to all the Canadians out there! We'll be celebrating with three picks that will keep you locked in all day. We have the early game with the Red Sox and Blue Jays, the midday game pitting the Braves against the Athletics, and the late game where Zack Greinke could get Rocked! We've got a parlay lined up for you too.

MLB Baseball Games Today

Welcome to our sports picks and predictions for Saturday. There’s a slate of a whopping 17 games today, so it’s sure to be manic. Minnesota and Kansas are both playing playing double-headers, along with Cleveland and Detroit, who had their game cancelled on Friday.

Your Toronto Blue Jays are still struggling, and still in last place in the division. They’ve fallen further and further from the .500 mark, losing at home to the Red Sox on Friday night to put them at 37-42. The series continues on Saturday, and we will have a pick on this game, so look out for it below.

We were back to our winnings ways last time, going 2-1. We cashed with Arizona, who rallied behind the Cardinals, to take it with a walk off hit in extras, and we won with Atlanta and Sean Newcomb as slight dogs, who shut out a struggling San Diego. Our loss was with the Brewers against the Reds. Neither starting pitcher was great, but Junior Guerra was just a bit worse in the loss.

This week, we will have 3 picks as usual, along with a parlay at the end, usually related to our picks. Our early game will be an AL East clash between the first place Red Sox and the last place Blue Jays. The midday game will be the Braves against the A’s, and slumping Rockies face the Diamondbacks in the late game. Let’s get into it!

MLB Picks Today – June 27, 2017

The Boston Red Sox are a pretty dominant force right now. Unlike the Nationals, their bullpen can shut down even the best offenses. They have an ERA of 2.92, 3rd best in the league, and were instrumental in Friday’s extra inning win in Toronto. They might not even need them that much though, because their starter should go deep in this one.

Chris Sale (10-3, 2.77 ERA) starts for the Sox. On April 20, he struck out 13 and gave up no runs in 8 innings against the Jays. They are 5-2 in his last 7 road starts, and 6-1 in his last 7 starts overall. Francisco Liriano (4-3, 5.46 ERA) takes the mound for the Jays, and has actually been good at home.

Despite this being Canada Day, this just won’t be Canada’s team’s day. They actually have a losing 7-10 record on the holiday since 2000. It looks to be a low scoring affair at first glance, but there’s no guarantee Boston won’t just run away with this one. Neither team is good against left handers, but this might just come down to bullpens, and the Sox have the edge there. Not to mention they’re also 4-1 in their last 5 games at Rogers Centre.

  • Atlanta Braves at Oakland Athletics: Athletics (-130) at BODOG

Here come those Braves! Winners of 9 in 13, the Atlanta Braves are in 2nd place, behind soaring Washington, in the NL East standings. They look to build on Mike Foltynewicz’s near no-hitter on Friday night. The A’s have been struggling though, losing their last 5 home games.

The Braves send out R.A. Dickey (6-5, 4.63 ERA), who had a great June, going 3-1 with a 4.02 ERA. Atlanta’s 4-1 in the right-hander’s last 5 starts. Jharel Cotton was supposed to start for the Athletics, but was scratched because of a blister. Paul Blackburn gets the start instead, after being called up from AAA, where he is 5-6 with a 3.05 ERA). He has a 1.19 WHIP in 79 2/3 innings in the minors.

If Cotton was starting today for the Oakland Athletics, our play would have been the Braves, but with this scratch, we’re going with the home side. Blackburn was called up so has a lot to prove. His AAA record is mediocre, but going from the minors to majors doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll get destroyed. We see the opposite happen just as much. This is a great spot for the A’s to sneak in a home win.

The Colorado Rockies are 2-8 in their L10, losing their last 8 before Friday, and have faltered from top of their division to 3rd place. They look to get things rolling again after their win in Arizona. The D-Backs are looking to solidify their place in the standings and gain traction against the leading Dodgers.

Tyler Chatwood (6-8, 4.32 ERA) starts for the Rocks, and hasn’t been bad at all against Arizona. In 9 appearances, 8 of which were starts, the right-hander is 5-2 with a 3.94 ERA against the D-Backs. It’ll be a tough challenge for him though, going up against Zack Greinke (9-4, 3.08 ERA). He’s 7-0 at home this season, and has had a ton of Rockie experience, going 8-5, with a 4.08 ERA in 23 appearances, 22 of which were starts against them.

This is another one of those games that can go either way, so we’ll make our pick based on price. Despite Greinke’s great home record and overall record against Colorado, he’s only 1-1 in 3 starts against them this season. On the other hand, the Rockies are a perfect 4-0 in Chatwood’s last 4 road starts against Arizona, and 6-2 in his last 8 starts against them. The D-Backs have the edge, but this is still an elite Colorado team and have no business being priced so high. Take them in this spot.

For our parlay, we’ll go forward how we usually do. Take all 3 teams and multiply your winnings. We will go with the Athletics on the 1st 5 innings though, as a slight change. Colorado, Boston, and Oakland 1st 5 pays out +586 at Sports Interaction. Good luck!

  • Colorado Rockies (+155)
  • Oakland Athletics 1st 5 (-145)
  • Boston Red Sox (-155)
