Mayweather vs McGregor Early Betting Odds Explained

Mayweather vs McGregor Early Betting Odds Explained
The larger-than-life Mayweather vs McGregor boxing match is just around the corner and already the betting lines have been receiving tons of cash flow but not on the fighter pundits would expect. A fight this big will lead to big money not just for either fighter but for the hordes of bettors looking to capitalize.

Mayweather and McGregor have transcended combat sports. The two aren’t just the biggest stars in their own respect sport: they have become cultural icons. Wherever both go, fans and money are sure to follow. The two are set to make over $200 million combined as their megafight will break pay-per-view revenues. Fans can’t wait for August 26 as they constantly assault the betting lines. Here is a look at what lines to expect for the fight.

Mayweather vs McGregor Betting Odds

Any time a polarizing yet highly influential figure like McGregor is involved, the betting odds get thrown into chaos. The “Notorious” one opened as a +1100 underdog but is currently being bet down to as low +350. The time to bet McGregor is now or never as his betting line doesn’t seem like it’ll go much higher. Despite having zero pro boxing bouts and facing the sport’s all-time greatest boxers, McGregor backers have faith he will prevail and it’s hard to doubt “Mystic Mac”.

Who Will Win The Fight?
Mayweather vs McGregor Odds To Win

The Irishman’s only loss in recent years came on short notice bout against a bigger opponent. Every other opponent McGregor has finished has been his size or smaller. There is no doubting McGregor’s power but this is in mixed martial arts.

With 16oz boxing gloves, the fight’s complexion changes entirely. Mayweather has also fought prolific power punchers like Canelo Alvarez and Manny Pacquiao and left them impotent. Against the inexperienced yet unorthodox McGregor, God knows how Mayweather will fair. There are plenty of unknowns hence why most of the action is on McGregor.

In the eyes of many bettors, the boxing experience is irrelevant as McGregor brings a style not seen before. Mayweather has fought boxers but not an MMA fighter and McGregor has not boxed. The whimsical nature of the fight leads to many playing this as a “dog or pass” scenario and it’s difficult to put a value on either fighter. McGregor backers should likely bet on him now while Mayweather fans could look to wait a bit more.

Other Ways to Bet Mayweather vs McGregor

Betting on the fight doesn’t have to be a straight pick. An alternative way to bet is to bet the totals: over/under rounds. Sportsbooks currently have anywhere between 2.5 rounds to 10.5 rounds. You bet whether the fight finishes before (under) or after (over) the specific number. Books also offer specific bets on when the fight ends under the propositions section. The method of victory for either fighter can also be bet on here as well as how the fight ends (TKO/KO/DQ or Decision).

Method Of Victory

This route may be a better option and right now the consensus favourite is the fight doesn’t make it to a decision (-225). Betting on Mayweather straight up can also seem hefty so an alternative is to bet his method of victory. A win by TKO/KO is at -149, a decent shot as it can be achieved via either referee or corner stoppage should McGregor and/or his team decide he’s had enough.

Boxing vs MMA: Betting on Both

Boxing and MMA are both combat sports but they are worlds apart. The nature of each sport is so different and involves different ways to approach it. The matchmaking in boxing, for one, is top-heavy with skilled and popular boxers frequently involved in “mismatches” leading to massive favourites of little value. While MMA is a bit less predictable and massive faves are not as common. Most fans appreciate either boxing or MMA but some love both and online sportsbooks have some great signup bonuses to cater to these die-hard fight fans.
