Leicester vs Chelsea Odds
Chelsea fans adore Claudio Ranieri. As a former manager of the Blues, it was a happy day for the organization when his Foxes clinched the title last season. Chelsea got to play a small part in their historic accomplishment, and then on the final day of last season gave Leicester City a well deserved guard of honor at Stamford Bridge. But Chelsea have a new man in charge; another Italian who wants to stamp his own name on English football.
And for Antonio Conte, he is in a position he knows all too well. As Juventus manager his team was almost permanently in first place during his years there. Winning is like breathing to him.
As for his players, the majority of the squad that won the title 2 years still make up the core of his team. Newcomer, N’golo Kante was a key piece in Rainieri’s Leicester side last season. David Luiz has spent the last couple of years winning Ligue 1 in France with PSG. Even the goalie Thibaut Courtois before taking over as Chelsea’s netminder was the last line of defense in an Atletico Madrid team that held off Real Madrid and Barcelona to win LaLiga.
I say all of this to say that this Chelsea side, from top to bottom, knows what it takes to win the title. And beating a struggling Leicester side is a task of top priority and will not be taken lightly.
Leicester vs Chelsea Prediction
In 5 career matches head to head Conte is 4-0-1 vs. Ranieri. Chelsea are 2-0 this season vs Leicester. The first game was a 4-2 shootout in the EFL cup early this season at the King Power. This was before Conte switched the formation to a back 3. Chelsea were still defensively poor.
The second match was at Stamford Bridge and was a fairly easy 3-0 win, 2 matches into Chelsea’s 13 game winning streak. It was the early stages of Conte’s 3-4-3 formation which looked unstoppable until Tottenham finally found holes in it last week and handed Chelsea their first set back in over 3 months. Tottenham exposed Chelsea’s back line between the right sided defender Azpilicueta and the right wing back Victor Moses.
Dele Alli exploited the gap in that area of the field and was supplied 2 perfect crosses that he converted. Now surely Chelsea have worked on this the last 10 days, but assuming the best way to score on the Blues would be a perfect delivery to the far post to your best player in the air, Leicester’s best option to provide such a cross, Riyad Mahrez, won’t play in this fixture as he will be taking part in AFCON this month.
I don’t see how Leicester will be able to match Chelsea blow for blow without him.
Premier League Odds Week 21
Chelsea, who sit atop the table with a 5 point lead have huge showdowns with Liverpool and Arsenal in a few weeks time, but before that they have 2 very winnable games against Leicester this weekend, and last place Hull next weekend.
However Liverpool, before getting a crack at Chelsea, have to visit Old Trafford first this weekend, while City and Tottenham square off next weekend. So if Chelsea can grab these next 6 points, they may see their lead over the rest of the pack grow before having to face another title contender.
