Johnson vs Reis UFC Fight Night Card Picks

Johnson vs Reis UFC Fight Night Card Picks
Demetrious Johnson, the world's #1 pound-for-pound fighter returns to defend his UFC flyweight title against grappler Wilson Reis who's won three in a row. Johnson is one title defense away from tying Anderson Silva and he's a good bet to do it. Card starts 8:00 PM ET tonight.

Demetrious Johnson vs. Wilson Reis Fight Card

UFC Fight Card Demetrious Johnson vs Wilson Reis

Demetrious Johnson Record: 25-2-1
Wilson Reis Record: 22-6-0
Canada Sports Betting Pick: Demetrious Johnson (-800) at Sports Interaction

Johnson might be the sport’s most underappreciated talent. The one they nickname “Mighty Mouse” is undefeated at flyweight since moving down in 2012 during the division’s inauguration and he only keeps getting better. Fans often consider his style uninteresting but it speaks to how dominant he has been as champion. Johnson has run roughshod on the division and decisively defeated every contender.

Reis is next in line. The Brazilian is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and is 5-1 in the division, winning his last three fights. Reis’s primary skillset is grappling where he is skilled with submissions from on top or from the back. He is a big burly fighter for the division and has solid wrestling. For him to have real success however, he needs to apply heavy pressure on Johnson and utilize his wrestling and grappling to score points or catch him in a submission. Crazier things have happened.

While anything is possible, Reis will not be beating Johnson. The champion has fought better wrestlers and grapplers and handled them easily. Johnson may get taken down but his scrambling is otherworldly and he’s escaped deep submission attempts multiple times.

Johnson is also the faster, tougher, and stronger fighter and if he keeps the fight standing or in the clinch, he will bully Reis and likely knock him out somewhere between the first and third rounds. Chalk it up for Johnson to tie the record with his tenth successful title defense.

Best UFC Fight Night Picks – April 15, 2017

This is a favourite heavy UFC card with seven fighters that are -250 or lower. Two favourites who are relatively inexpensive are Rose Namajunas (-130) and Jeremy Stephens (-190).

Namajunas has a tough fight against Michelle Waterson, a Jackson-Wink fighter who has a diverse skillset. Namajunas can’t afford to get too fancy but she is the better and stronger grappler with an ever-improving wrestling game. Stephens only loses to contenders and not only hits hard but is a tough nutter with good takedown defense.

Renato Moicano is an intriguing all-around talent but isn’t on Stephens’ level.
