Gustafsson vs Teixeira Fight Card
It’s been almost four years since Alexander Gustafsson gave the great Jon Jones the fight of his life. Since that star-making performance from “The Mauler”, he has only gone 2-2 in the UFC although he again came close to winning gold in a split decision loss to current champ Daniel Cormier. The Swede will be fighting on home soil for the first time since January 2015 and even if he’s lost a step or two, this is his fight to lose.
|Fight Card||GUSTAFSSON vs TEIXEIRA (UFC Fight Night, May 28, 2017)|
|Prediction||TAKE GUSTAFSSON (-380)|
Glover Teixeira finally gets a crack at Gustafsson following the cancellation of their original booking back in 2015. Teixeira also challenged Jones for the belt and lost and has gone 4-2 in the promotion since. A protege of Chuck Liddell, Teixeira is a complete fighter boasting solid boxing, wrestling, and submission skills. Being 37 and having a knockout loss to Anthony Johnson, however, have signified he is past his prime.
Gustafsson has most of the advantages in this fight and it’s surprising he isn’t bigger than a -375 favourite in most sportsbooks but this is due to the savvy experience of Teixeira.
The Brazilian still flashes some power and is hard to put away but Gustafsson has the range, speed, and youth advantage. The Swede will utilize his hard jabs to keep Teixeira at bay. Once the Brazilian gets the fight to his range, Gustafsson is strong in the clinch and throws vicious knees and uppercuts and is hard to take down or keep down. The Mauler is a solid bet to beat Teixeira!
Alternatively, you can parlay Gustafsson with someone from an earlier bout to sweeten the pot.
Best UFC Picks – May 28, 2017
UFC Stockholm comes action-packed with 12 fights and outside the main event, there a few more gems you can’t miss betting. Abdul Razak Alhassan (-300) is riding considerable hype following his knockout win in his debut and he’s facing a tougher Omari Akhmedov (+220), a wily veteran from Greg Jackson. Despite the inexperience, Alhassan should KO the slower, sloppier, and less durable Akhmedov.
Jack Hermansson (-165) has good value against Alex Nicholson (+130). In a battle of strikers, Hermansson is the more technical and durable. Though Nicholson flashes more power, he is also more hittable. Hermansson should mix up his striking and wrestling and earn the judges’ nods.
Two underdogs worth taking a shot at are Trevor Smith (+160) and Peter Sobotta (-105). Smith is going against all-around veteran Chris Camozzi (-220). While Smith isn’t iron-chinned, Camozzi doesn’t have the explosiveness or power to finish him. He can use his wrestling/grappling to frustrate Camozzi. Sobotta has a size disadvantage over Ben Saunders (-125) but should cut the distance and use his wrestling to control Saunders en route to a decision victory.
