Future Odds to win the 2018/19 NBA Championship
The 2018-19 NBA season hasn’t started, but many consider the end result a foregone conclusion. Nobody in the league offered DeMarcus Cousins a contract during the offseason, so Boogie waltzed into the Warriors front office and signed an inexpensive, one-year contract worth $5,337,000 – far below his market value as an elite big man. As such, Golden State’s an overwhelming favorite to earn a third consecutive ring while the rest of the association experiences envy.

NBA Championship Favorites
Since the gap between the Warriors and the rest of the NBA is a chasm, Golden State is the only true favorite to win a championship in 2019. In fact, the odds `suggest that the Warriors are nearly 4.5 times more likely to win a ring than their nearest competitor, the Boston Celtics.
Golden State Warriors -175
Some will make the case that the Warriors will struggle to fill the bench with quality contributors, but that’s splitting hairs. Signing DeMarcus Cousins to a one-year deal with a cap hit of $5.3 million makes the Warriors one of the most talented NBA teams in history. Only catastrophic injury will prevent Golden State from finishing a three-peat in 2019.
Boston Celtics +600
The Boston Celtics amazing run to the eastern conference finals without Kyrie and Hayward revealed a roster deep with young talent. Jayson Tatum’s historic playoff performance as a rookie bodes well for the Celtics, along with the revelation of Scary Terry and Jaylen Brown as clutch post season ballers. Al Horford’s on-court genius and Brad Stevens off-court smarts makes Boston the best contender for the Warriors throne.
Houston Rockets +800
Losing Trevor Ariza to free agency was a low-key disaster for the Rockets. His combination of elite defense and perimeter shooting will not be replaced. Instead, Houston will attempt to shoehorn Melo and Brandon Knight into a modern pace and space offense, which is far from ideal. Despite an on-paper regression, Harden and a healthy Chris Paul represent the best hope to defeat the Warriors in the playoffs.
Los Angeles Lakers +900
Landing LeBron James in free agency automatically lifted the Lakers into contenders. Until the King shows signs of slowing, he’s capable of pulling off an upset against the Rockets and Warriors. Ingram, Kuzma, Rondo, Caldwell-Pope, Hart, Beasley and Ball form an underrated supporting cast, arguably better than the group LeBron dragged to the finals in 2018 and 2015. At the very least, this could be the most entertaining team in the NBA over the next couple of years.
NBA Dark Horse Contenders
This trio of NBA franchises field excellent basketball teams which compete at a high level, capable of defeating any club in the association. A lack of overwhelming firepower or superstars relegate these teams to dark horse status before the 2018-19 regular season begins.
Philadelphia 76ers +1400
Will the Process develop quickly enough to usurp the Celtics as the preeminent threat in the eastern conference? If Simmons improves his jump shot and Embiid’s health allows him to play more minutes, the 76ers have a duo of unguardable players with elite defensive potential. Philadelphia could surprise again in 2018-19, especially if Fultz develops his raw talent.
Toronto Raptors +1600
The Toronto Raptors pulled off an astounding trade for Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green, sending Demar Derozan and Jakob Poeltl to San Antonio. On paper, the North has improved, adding a genuine superstar to the roster, but first-year coach Nick Nurse probably isn’t an upgrade over Dwane Casey, the 2018 NBA Coach of the Year. Somehow, Toronto’s both underrated and not recommended for NBA futures.
Oklahoma City Thunder +3300
Russell Westbrook underwent arthroscopic surgery on a knee over the offseason, which will likely force him to miss the beginning of the 2018-19 regular season. Getting rid of Melo will add through subtraction, while Denis Schroder will be an intriguing addition who can reduce Westbrook’s heavy minutes.
NBA Championship Longshots
Winning an NBA championship will be within the realm of possibility for the following teams, all of whom employ at least one superstar capable of lifting the squad to the NBA finals under the right circumstances.
However, these franchises have an Achilles heel which will likely cause their downfall.
Utah Jazz +5000
Donovan Mitchell will only continue to grow as a top scoring guard, while Rudy Gobert’s the reigning DPOY. Unless another star rises to reduce the pressure on Mitchell, the Utah Jazz will be unable to overcome top contenders.
San Antonio Spurs +6600
Coach Popovich lead a group of uninspiring talent to the playoffs last year, so he should be able to guide his current group to the post season again. Demar Derozan will surprise the western conference, but he and LaMarcus Aldridge won’t be enough to beat the Warriors, Rockets or Lakers in the post season.
Milwaukee Bucks +6600
The Bucks have already wasted a couple of years of Giannis Antetokounmpo, a trend which will probably continue this season. Despite his incredible athleticism and skills, the “Greek Freak” still has room to grow at the age of 23. If he develops a solid three-point stroke, the eastern conference will be his to lose.
Minnesota Timberwolves +6600
Coach Thibodeau essentially reformed the Chicago Bulls in Minnesota, adding Luol Deng to the lineup. This team employs Jimmy Butler and Karl Anthony Towns, who should be one of the most dangerous duos in the NBA, but they haven’t developed the chemistry necessary to become serious contenders.

Fighting For The Playoffs
The NBA playoff bubble consists of teams in basketball limbo. None of these squads will compete for an NBA championship or a top draft pick during the 2019 draft.
- Washington Wizards +6600
- New Orleans Pelicans +8000
- Denver Nuggets +8000
- Portland Trail Blazers +8000
- Indiana Pacers +10000
- Miami Heat +10000
- Detroit Pistons +15000
The following clubs have little to no chance of making the playoffs. In fact, a post season berth for these teams would ruin attempts to build a base of young talent for these squads.
- Dallas Mavericks +17500
- Los Angeles Clippers +20000
- Phoenix Suns +20000
- Cleveland Cavaliers +20000
