Edmonton Oilers vs. San Jose 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs Odds, Picks, Live Score
Edmonton vs San Jose 2017 NHL Playoff Odds
Though meeting at the Big Dance for a second time, Edmonton earned a 4-3 Western Conference Semifinal series win back in 2006, the Oilers and Sharks are very familiar with each other. After a 15-3-2 run by the Sharks, that started five years ago, the Oilers have won three in a row by an 11-5 final count. Straddling the New Year, San Jose won the first two meetings by 3-2 and 5-3 margins.
Expected for a decade, due to a wealth of top NHL Draft picks, the Oilers have finally brought playoff hockey back to the Alberta Capital. Streaky during many parts of the season, Edmonton was lights out down the stretch as they closed the year on an impressive 12-2-0 run. An Anaheim Ducks goal with 8:26 left in the regular season kept the Oilers from claiming first in the Pacific.
San Jose was opposite to Edmonton as they had a 42-20-7 mid-March record before finishing on a 4-9-0 skid. The Sharks had to fight through some key injuries near the end of the year. San Jose played 24 playoff games before losing in the Cup Final to Pittsburgh a year ago. Now they have just grinded out another 82 matches so one has to wonder if the Sharks are running a little low on fuel.

San Jose Sharks vs Edmonton Oilers 2017 NHL Playoff Series Summary – Oilers Win 4-2
For the first time since May 27, 2006, the Edmonton Oilers have claimed a playoff series win. Full marks for a rock solid quarterfinal win, with the exception of the Game 4 debacle, the young Oilers posted a 3-1 win in Game 6 to eliminate the defending Western Conference Champion San Jose Sharks. Edmonton All-Star Connor McDavid literally “shovelled” a puck into the Sharks empty net to get us a PUSH on our Game 6 OVER/UNDER wager. Overall, this was a rough series for us as we ended up with a -305 unit loss. As a slight “silver-lining” our Edmonton Stanley Cup futures bet is still alive. We’ll predict each game of the Oilers vs Anaheim Ducks Conference Semifinal battle.
Edmonton vs San Jose: Previous NHL 2017 Quarterfinal Playoff Predictions
Sharks @ Oilers Game 1 Prediction – San Jose Sharks 3-2 (OT) Final – Game Total Push
Preview: Connor McDavid is conjuring up memories of Wayne Gretzky as the Next One is the leader of the band in Edmonton. McDavid led the league in points (100) and assists (70) while scoring 30 goals. San Jose owned a seven point lead, when we tipped Anaheim to win the Pacific in our NHL futures section at the end of February, but finished in third place.
Game 1 Prediction: OVER 5 (-130) 100 Unit Game Total Bet at Sports Interaction. Oilers coach Todd McLellan is two seasons removed as the Sharks bench boss, he was there from 2008-15, and that may play a role in this series. We like the Oilers firing on all cylinders and have concerns about the Sharks energy level. Nerves could be a factor for the Oilers while the Sharks will have a “been there – done that” mantra. We like Edmonton but we are backing the OVER 5 (-130) game total at SportsInteraction and Edmonton (-200) to win the series.
Sharks @ Oilers Game 2 Prediction – Edmonton Oilers 2-0 Final – Game Total UNDER
Game 1 Recap and Game 2 Preview: Edmonton is stinging after they let a 2-0 first period lead slip away and lost 3-2 (OT) to San Jose in Game 1. Showing their playoff experience the Sharks outshot the Oilers 34-9 after the opening frame – WOW! Edmonton needs to reload quickly as they don’t want to be down 0-2 when the series shifts to San Jose. The Oilers went into a shell after the first period in Game 1 – we can’t see that happening again tonight.
Game 2 Prediction: OVER 5 (-110) 100 Unit Game Total Bet at Sports Interaction. San Jose’s domination of Edmonton over the final 43:22 of Game 1 is equal parts puzzling and concerning. Have the young Oilers met their match versus the playoff savvy Sharks? How Game 2 plays out should answer that question. The visitors puck line and straight up prices SportsInteraction have a “suckers bet” feel as San Jose are huge pups again tonight. After earning a PUSH in Game One, we are backing the OVER 5 (-110) game total price again.
Oilers @ Sharks Game 3 Prediction – Edmonton Oilers 1-0 Final Game Total UNDER
Game 2 Recap and Game 3 Preview: There wasn’t much lamp lighting in Game 2 as the Oilers scored two shorthanded goals and won 2-0 to earn a home split with the Sharks. As was the case with Montreal, Edmonton heads out on the road for what is now a best-of-five quarterfinal series. The Sharks (26-11-4) had the sixth best home mark – Edmonton (22-14-5) posted a seventh best road mark. The Oilers won 4-2 and 4-1 in the Shark Tank this season.
Game 3 Prediction: OVER 4.5 (-165) 165 Unit Game Total Bet at Bodog. Showing they belong in the postseason, Edmonton recorded 36 shots while holding the Sharks to just 16 attempts in Game 2. Our first two Game Total calls ended with a PUSH and a loss but we feel the play will open up in California. The Sharks star players, like Brent Burns, Logan Couture and Joe Pavelski, are due and the Oilers can light up anyone – at anytime. A 165 unit OVER wager, on the Bodog 4.5 (-165) alternate total goal price, gets us back to even on this series.
Oilers @ Sharks Game 4 Prediction – San Jose Sharks 7-0 Final
Game 3 Recap and Game 4 Preview: With apologies, we have been way off base on our Game Total predictions during this series. After averaging 2.96 and 2.67 goals per game during the regular season – Edmonton and San Jose have averaged 1.67 and 1.00 GPG respectively during the first three games of this Western Conference quarterfinal playoff battle. Since they scored in overtime to win Game 1 – the Sharks have gone 120 minutes without a scoring a goal on Cam Talbot. That is prime playoff netminding at it’s finest.
Game 4 Prediction: 280 Unit ATS Bet on Edmonton +1.5 (-280) at William Hill. Martin Jones (.166 GAA) has been almost as solid at stopping pucks for the Sharks. Understanding they are at home, it seems unwarranted that San Jose is the favorite tonight. Not seeing the Oilers getting blown out, during any of the contests in this series, we are taking the 1.5 (-280) pucks being offered at the William Hill online sportsbook and backing Edmonton in Game 4. Puck drop is slated for 10:00 PM ET at the SAP Center Shark Tank in San Jose.
Oilers @ Sharks Game 5 Prediction – Edmonton Oilers 4-3 (OT) Final
Game 4 Recap and Game 5 Preview: We could not have been more off base on this series to date if we tried. Game 4 was costly as we laid heavy juice, took Edmonton with pucks and then the Oilers were eaten alive 7-0 by San Jose in the Shark Tank. Not quite ready to blow a gasket just yet, there are still at least two game to go, we are now down 505 units during this series. After calling OVER on three straight matches, we got cute and it cost us, as the high scoring we expected finally erupted – even though it was all delivered by one squad.
Game 5 Prediction: 270 Unit Bet on Edmonton (-135) Money Line at Bet65. There are going to be rough patches – the goal is to minimize the damage now and chip away at the deficit. Bookmakers at Bet365 are unfazed by the Oilers debacle in NoCal as Edmonton is slight chalk at home at the Rogers Place Arena tonight. The Oilers are the last “Alberta Hope” after the Calgary Flames were doused by the Anaheim Ducks last night. Edmonton gets the last line change tonight so that should help Connor McDavid & Crew get back on track here. Bet on the Oilers with a 270 unit wager on the Bet365 (-135) money line.
Oilers @ Sharks Game 6 Prediction – Edmonton Oilers 3-1 Final Game Total PUSH
Game 5 Recap and Game 6 Preview: What goes around comes around eh? On the wrong side of the Canadiens vs Rangers OT game earlier in the evening – we cashed with Oilers as they defeated the Sharks 4-3 in OT. Edmonton outshot San Jose 14-2 in extra frame and can close out this series when the puck drops at 10:30 PM ET at the Shark Tank. Edmonton’s Game 5 win was huge for us as we cut into our series deficit that now stands at -305 units.
Game 6 Prediction: 500 Unit Bet on OVER 4 Goals (-250) at William Hill. San Jose is facing their first elimination battle since they dropped Game 6 at home 3-1 vs Pittsburgh during the 2017 Stanley Cup Finals. What kind of a contest should we expect in Northern California tonight? Something similar to the Oilers 1-0 razor thin Game 3 win or the Sharks 7-0 Game 4 blowout victory? William Hill bookmakers have listed San Jose as mild home favorites here. Since moving away from our OVER Game Total calls – seven goals have been scored in the last two contests. Go figure eh? Still aiming to chip away at our deficit – we are loading up on the 4 (-250) alternate total goal line with an OVER wager at William Hill.
Edmonton Oilers 2017 Stanley Cup Futures

The Oilers lines have been slick as they slid from a +2500 Stanley Cup Championship price to their current +1200 money line.
