CFL Week 18 Predictions

CFL Week 18 Predictions
Packed with a ton of playoff implications, Week 18 of the 2016 CFL schedule is upon us. Two Friday night contests get us going as Hamilton and Ottawa play the second of a home-and-home series prior to Calgary hosting Toronto in the Stampede City. Those matches are followed by a CFL Saturday doubleheader that features Montreal visiting Saskatchewan prior to British Columbia hosting Edmonton for a pivotal contest in Vancouver. Winnipeg will be watching the Eskimos vs Lions tilt with interest as the Blue Bombers are on a bye this week.

CFL Odds Week 18

Week 17 CFL results did little to change the playoff picture as every team, except Saskatchewan, still has a shot at making it to the CFL playoffs. Some shots are way better than others though as Montreal and Toronto will both be eliminated in the East Division if they lose this weekend or if Hamilton wins in Ottawa on Friday night. Over in the West Division, we know Calgary will host the West Final but where the Blue Bombers, Lions and Eskimos finish in the standings is still very much up in the air and those races probably won’t be decided until Week 20. LIVE right now at Bodog and SportsInteraction – CFL Week 18 odds show four home teams with chalk lines.

CFL Week 17 Wagering Recap

A whiff, a brutal last second backdoor loss, plus two easy covers earned us a 2-2 record on our CFL Week 17 predictions. Thinking that Hamilton might have solved some of their issues on defense during the bye week proved to be a pipe dream as the Tiger-Cats lost 30-29 to 41-year old Henry Burris and the Redblacks. We moved to 1-1 after Blue Bombers won outright 35-32 over the Lions in Vancouver. The Roughriders pushed us to 2-1 as they won a fourth straight contest with a 29-11 victory in Toronto. The week closed on a down note as Montreal scored with 16 seconds left in the game to cover the -15 price with a 22-8 loss in Calgary versus the Stampeders. With Calgary having so little to play for – they’ll be tough to predict over their final two games of the season. However, without further adieu, let’s have a look at our Canadian Football League Week 18 CFL predictions.

Week 18 CFL Predictions

Hamilton Tiger-Cats @ Ottawa Redblacks 2016 CFL Week 18 Prediction

TD Place Stadium 7:00 PM ET October 21, 2016

Following Ottawa’s 30-29 win in Hamilton the Redblacks control the East Division. After Ottawa jumped out to a 20-7 lead at halftime, this contest looked like it was going to be over early. Give Hamilton credit for fighting back, they actually had a 28-27 lead in the fourth quarter, but Ottawa ended up out-gaining Hamilton by a 480-375 total yards margin and they ran more plays (63-50) to sneak out of the Steel City with a win. The Tiger-Cats will be without all-star kick returner Brandon Banks for this contest as he has been suspended two games due to a positive drug test. This is a tremendous blow to Hamilton as Banks is a game changer and he had 182 return yards in the match last week. Ottawa has not been good at home (2-4-1) but they owe their fans a solid effort and we believe they will deliver here. A win here clinches the Redblacks top spot in the East, a first round playoff bye and home field advantage during the East Final. While we are not all that happy about the “hook” we are laying the -3.5 (-110) and backing the Redblacks at SportsInteraction.

Toronto Argonauts @ Calgary Stampeders CFL 2016 Week 18 Prediction

McMahon Stadium 9:00 PM ET October 21, 2016

Barely breathing, the Toronto Argonauts head into Calgary to face the steamrolling Stampeders at McMahon Stadium. These teams met two weeks ago at BMO Field as Calgary built a 35-6 halftime lead before cruising to a 48-20 win as -9 point road chalk. In between, Toronto dropped a 29-11 decision at home to Saskatchewan while the Stampeders smothered Montreal 22-8 in Calgary. Following a promising 4-2 start to their season, very little has gone right for the Argo’s who are 1-9 over their last ten games.  Toronto rolls into Alberta riding a five-game losing streak during which they were outscored by a 190-83 combined final count. During a season of mostly good news, the Stampeders received some bad news this week as defensive captain Deron Mayo is out for the season with a knee injury. With nothing but “staying sharp” to play for, a blow like that may have Calgary playing conservative with their starters over their final two contests. That, plus Ricky Ray returning at QB has us taking the +16.5 (-110) at Bodog and (hard swallow) backing the Boatmen.

Montreal Alouettes @ Saskatchewan Roughriders 2016 CFL Week 18 Prediction

Mosaic Stadium at Taylor Field 4:00 PM ET October 22, 2016

Montreal heads out on the road for second straight week as they visit Saskatchewan in the first half of the CFL Saturday doubleheader. The Alouettes are clinging to a tiny playoff thread as one loss, or a Hamilton win, will end their very faint playoff hopes – put a fork in ‘em eh. Montreal has dropped two straight contests 40-20 at home to Edmonton and 22-8 in Calgary last week. Someone should have told the Roughriders the season started back in June as Saskatchewan opened the year on a 1-10 slide. Showing a ton of heart, while building towards next season, the ‘Riders have won four straight by a 107-82 margin. Returning home, after wins in Ottawa and Toronto, the Roughriders will look to win a third straight match at Mosaic Field as they posted victories over the Eskimos and Tiger-Cats to begin their current winning streak. There is a slight concern of the ‘Riders looking past Montreal as they have two battles against West Division rival BC to close out their season – though that’s not something we hang our betting hat on. That is easily countered by the Green & White wanting to keep their winning streak rolling plus they will be looking to avenge their 41-3 mashing in Montreal back in Week Six. Roll with the ‘Riders and lay the SportsInteraction -6.5 (-110) line.

Edmonton Eskimos @ British Columbia Lions CFL 2016 Week 18 Prediction

BC Place Stadium 7:00 PM ET October 22, 2016

While we rarely understand how the CFL schedule makers operate, they deserve props for closing out the Week 18 slate with British Columbia hosting Edmonton in a fight that’s laced with playoff implications. The Eskimos (8-7) trail the Lions (9-6) by one game in the crossover postseason chase and Winnipeg by four points in the race for second in the West. Edmonton battles Toronto and Hamilton to close out their schedule. The Lions are two points out of second place and they are playing the game in hand they have on the Blue Bombers. BC will close out their season with a home-and-home series against Saskatchewan who are running hot right now. Edmonton, who have scored 40 points in each of their past two matches, woke up after a 26-23 loss to ‘Riders (who were 1-10 at the time) as they have won three in a row by a 107-69 margin. Once rather stout on defense, the Lions just lost two in a row to Winnipeg by 37-35 and 35-32 final counts. That’s the first time the Lions lost back-to-back this season. Edmonton won the first meeting 27-23 back in Week 14 and, although the line seems a little fishy, we will back the Eskimos to sweep the series by taking the +2 (110) offered by the Bodog bookmakers. Good Luck in CFL Week 18 Everyone!
