CFL Week 16 Predictions

CFL Week 16 Predictions
Canadian Football League action is spread out this week as we have one game on both Friday and Saturday, prior to celebrating Canadian Thanksgiving Day with two contests on Monday. Bookmakers at Bodog and SportsInteraction have posted Ottawa and Winnipeg as home chalk against Saskatchewan and BC, while Montreal and Toronto are home dogs versus Edmonton and Calgary respectively during the CFL Week 16 battles. Hamilton will use their bye week trying to steady the badly listing good ship Tiger-Cats. Let's get to the action.

CFL Odds Week 16

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving! Time sure flies when you’re having fun eh? It seems like yesterday when we were predicting the Calgary Stampeders CFL Week Six battle with the British Columbia Lions. Fast forward to today and Week 16 of the 2016 CFL season is now upon us. Week 15 did very little to clear the playoff picture as the top two teams in the West Division won while the top three East Division squads all lost. We enjoyed a perfect 4-0 CFL three-quarter-pole week so let’s preview the exciting CFL Week 16 battles and betting lines as we look to keep this train a’ rolling.

CFL Week 15 Wagering Recap

Everything came up peaches and gravy for us during Week 15 as we posted a 4-0 record against the spread and straight up. Edmonton sent us out to a solid start as they whacked Winnipeg 40-26. Then Calgary, who are crushing everyone in their path, moved us to 2-0 with a 36-17 hammering of Hamilton. On the right side of a back door cover, for a change, British Columbia (-5.5) scored a pick six late to out-duel Ottawa 40-33. Our weekend wrapped up in winning style after Montreal scored 17 unanswered third quarter points and went on to trounce Toronto by a 38-11 count.

Week 16 CFL Predictions

Saskatchewan Roughriders @ Ottawa Redblacks 2016 CFL Week 16 Prediction

TD Place Stadium 7:00 PM ET October 7, 2016.

Fresh off a bye, Saskatchewan (3-10-0) travels to Ottawa (6-6-1) to open the CFL Week 16 slate. The Roughriders posted home wins versus Edmonton (26-23) and Hamilton (20-18) prior to the bye. Though not mathematically eliminated, the ‘Riders playoff hopes are very bleak so they will be in a spoiler role moving forward. The Redblacks return home following a tough 40-33 loss in Vancouver last week. The second quarter got away from Ottawa as their 10-6 first quarter lead moved to a 27-23 deficit at halftime. The visitors got to within one point in the fourth quarter (34-33) but the Lions posted a pick six with three seconds left on the clock to salt the game away and cover the spread. The Redblacks are 2-3-1 at home this season while Saskatchewan has a dismal 0-6-0 road record. Ottawa has a two game lead in the loss column over Hamilton and a victory on Friday would really boost their chances of winning the East Division. If forced, we would lay the line but let’s ease into Week 16 by backing Ottawa with the (-280) money line odds posted at SportsInteraction.

BC Lions @ Winnipeg Blue Bombers CFL 2016 Week 16 Prediction

Investors Group Field October 8, 2016, 4:00 PM ET

Winnipeg hosts British Columbia in the lone CFL Week 16 divisional matchup. It’s a big one as the Blue Bombers (8-6) are one game behind the Lions (9-4) in the win column, plus two back in the loss column, in the race for third in the West Division. BC has a game in hand so this is a near must win for Winnipeg. It’s difficult to comprehend but this is the first meeting of the year between these West rivals who will hook up in Vancouver to close out the season series next week. The Leos have been solid on the road, posting a 5-2 record, while the Blue Bombers are a feeble 3-4 at Investors Group Field this season. Despite finishing with a 5-13 record last year, the Bombers swept the Lions with a 23-13 home win and 29-26 victory at BC Place. After they feasted on the likes of Toronto, Montreal and Saskatchewan, during a recent seven game winning streak, Winnipeg has dropped two in a row to Calgary and Edmonton. British Columbia is much closer in class to the Stampeders and Eskimos so we are taking the +1.5 (-110) ATS line at Bodog and prowling with the Lions.

Edmonton Eskimos @ Montreal Alouettes 2016 CFL Week 16 Prediction

Percival Molson Memorial Stadium October 10, 2016, 1:00 PM ET

Turkey Day in Canada begins with Montreal hosting Edmonton in an East vs West Division duel. What’s on the line here is kind of shocking as both of these squads are still in the postseason chase. Montreal, despite a 4-9 mark, is two games out of second in the East and they hold a game in hand on Hamilton. That said, their schedule isn’t favourable down the stretch as they have two games against Calgary still on the schedule. Following a pair of poundings by the Stampeders, plus a rock bottom loss in Saskatchewan, the defending Grey Cup Champion Eskimos (7-7) appear to have their swagger back. Winners of two in a row, Edmonton came from behind to post a 27-23 home win over the Lions in Week 14 and then bashed the Blue Bombers 40-26 in Winnipeg last week. The Eskimos much-maligned defence is starting to play like it’s 2015 all over again as they allowed the Lions eight points in the final two quarters and Winnipeg managed just 13 points during the first three quarters last week. Lay the -3 line at SportsInteraction and back the Grey Cup Champs.

Calgary Stampeders @ Toronto Argonauts CFL 2016 Week 16 Prediction

BMO Field October 10, 2016, 4:00 PM ET

Once a renewed rivalry in the making, that’s fizzled recently, Calgary rolls into Toronto to close out the CFL Week 16 schedule. Since the Argonauts stomped the Stampeders 35-22 during the 100th Grey Cup Championship, at home in 2012 at the Rogers Centre, Calgary has trashed Toronto by a 188-130 combined count while posting a 5-1 record. The Red & White have not lost in the “Center of the Universe” since their title game blunder as they as they have won three in a row in Toronto by a 96-44 margin. This is the first meeting this season and these teams will renew hostilities in two weeks time at McMahon Stadium. The Argos, who trail Hamilton by one game, need to finish in second in the East as a team from the West Division is going to claim the cross-over playoff spot. Any Stamps win, coupled with a Lions loss, clinches Calgary first overall in the CFL. The Argonauts have trouble scoring and they can’t stop anyone – the Stampeders are the exact opposite. Expecting Calgary will keep their foot on the gas here, we will lay the -9 (-110) odds at Bodog and side with the Stamps. Good Luck with your CFL Week 16 betting and Happy Thanksgiving to Everyone!

2018 Breeders Cup Filly & Mare Sprint

Who doesn't love a good 7-furlong slugfest between topnotch horses? That's exactly what the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint provides in addition to returning some generous prices such as 2017 winner Bar of Gold's $135.40 payout for every $2 wagered. I'm not sure we can catch that kind of lightening in a bottle this year, but the future bets do look juicy.

I'm a Breeders' Cup guy. Period.  But, if I had to single out one of my favorite races, the Turf Mile (not to be confused with the Dirt Mile) certainly holds its own with any of the spectacular events that occur over the best two-day stretch in racing.
