CFL Picks Week 6
CFL Football Games This Week
A blowout victory, a missed opportunity, plus three matches that were decided by a field goal, is how the crazy five-game Week 5 action played out. Calgary and Toronto covered their ATS prices, Winnipeg won as pups and a pair of matches ended as a PUSH. Favorites cruised to a perfect 5-0 straight up record and three of the five contests finished UNDER their game total prices. Overall, it was another entertaining batch of Great White North matchups and we enjoyed a profitable week.
Hitting the 1/3 mile post, one Friday Night fight and a Saturday doubleheader follow the Alouettes vs Blue Bombers battle on Thursday. Tied at the top of the West Standings, Edmonton and British Columbia will separate when the Eskimos host the Lions at Commonwealth Stadium at 9:30 PM ET on July 28. Leading the lowly East Division, Toronto is in Saskatchewan to open the July 29 action at 6:30 PM ET. The Week 6 schedule closes when winless Hamilton limps into Calgary at 9:30 PM ET. Savouring their first win – 2016 Grey Cup Champion Ottawa is on the first of their two BYE weeks.
CFL Predictions Today and Week 5 Review
Remaining on a positive roll, our Week 5 predictions went 4-0-0 straight up and 2-1-2 against the spread. Figuring Ottawa would get their first win, though fail to cover, we didn’t spell it out in our preview – hence our 4-0-0 SU record. Against the spread, we had a PUSH on our Montreal and Edmonton bets and cashed our Winnipeg ticket after BC won but failed to cover the line. Calgary continues to baffle us as they were our lone ATS loss and Toronto kicked a field goal with zeros showing on the clock to cover their short (-2) price. Let’s get to the Week 6 previews and picks.
- Montreal at Winnipeg Pick: Blue Bombers -4 (-110) ATS at Bet365
Coming up short last Wednesday, during a 24-19 loss in Ottawa, Montreal visits Winnipeg to open Week 6 betting action at Bet365. Faced with a third and one, on the Redblacks ten-yard line with two-minutes left, the Alouettes were stuffed on a QB sneak and gave up the ball (and game) on downs. Letting one slip away, by allowing 18 unanswered 4th quarter points, the Bombers fell 45-42 to the Lions in Vancouver on Thursday. Montreal is allowing a CFL low 21.8 PPG while Winnipeg is giving up 34.7 PPG. We are backing the Bombers offense by laying the -4 (-110) price at Bet365.
Final Score: Winnipeg Blue Bombers 41-40
- British Columbia at Edmonton Pick: Eskimos -3 (-110) at SportsInteraction
It is safe to say that the Edmonton vs British Columbia clash is the biggest battle so far this season. A rematch of the Leos 30-27 Week 1 loss at home to the Eskimos, one of these teams will take sole possession of first in the Wild West. After scoring 18 4th Q points vs Winnipeg, the Lions continue claw teams late as BC has scored 76 of their 164 points in the final frame. Edmonton came from behind, also with 18 4th Q points, to tame the Tiger-Cats 31-28 on the road. With all the markings of a possible PUSH – we’re taking Edmonton at home with the -3 (-110) SportsInteraction line.
Final Score: Edmonton Eskimos 37-26
- Toronto at Saskatchewan Pick: Argonauts +3.5 (-110) ATS at Bodog
During the final nine minutes, that included two TD’s and two turnovers, Toronto topped Ottawa 27-24 thanks to a last second 34-yard field goal on Monday night. Saskatchewan had their modest one-game winning streak snapped as the ‘Riders offense didn’t arrive in Calgary until the second half. Give the melonheads some credit though as they held the Stamps offence somewhat in check during a 27-10 loss. The Argos appear to be buying what new head coach Marc Trestman is selling and we feel Toronto will win outright. Sail with the Boatmen and the Bodog +3.5 (-110) ATS price.
Final Score: Saskatchewan Roughriders 38-27
- Hamilton at Calgary Pick: Stampeders -12.5 (-110) ATS at William Hill
As the CFL’s lone winless team, Hamilton heads into Calgary to close out Week 6 action. Bad on both sides of the ball, the Tiger-Cats are averaging just 22 PPG on offence while giving up 35 PPG on defense. After they toyed with the ‘Riders last Saturday – the Stamps play at home for a second straight week. During a run that started with the 2016 Grey Cup – we’ve had zero profitability with Calgary. The Stampeders rarely drop matches at McMahon Stadium but will they cover the massive line? Begrudgingly, we’re laying the -12.5 (-110) ATS odds at William Hill and siding with Calgary.
Final Score: Calgary Stampeders 60-1
